343 Response to negative BP feedback

Hi guys. I wanted to share some Tweets Unyshek posted in response to te negative BP feedback. It’s not a complete fix but at least a step in the proper direction. Let’s hope it continues.
TL;DR at the bottom

To address the feedback on Battle Pass progression we will be making targeted tunings to our model later this week.
To start, we’ll be adding “Play 1 Game” challenges to help make sure you consistently progress through the
Battle Pass by playing matches the way you want.

We’ll also be adjusting, fixing bugs with, and removing some Weekly Challenges based on your feedback. These tunings to challenge difficulty will help you progress through Weekly Challenges faster and thus directly speed up your progress through the Battle Pass.

When we make this update, we’ll need to reset your Challenges, including your progress towards Weekly ones. To make up for this reset, we’ll be granting this week’s Ultimate Reward, the Sigil Mark VII Visor, to everyone who logs in from Nov 23 - Nov 30.

Additionally, we will be doubling the duration of 2XP Boosts to now last 1 hour as opposed to 30 mins. We hope this helps people get the most out of them, especially during those longer BTB sessions.

We’ll be watching these changes closely to make sure they have the positive impact we all want on your progression. This is only our first step - we are committed to continue evolving these systems but it will take time. Thanks for joining our beta, and keep the feedback coming!

TL;DR
Every match will now award XP. Bugged challenges will be removed and fixed. Some challenges people didn’t enjoy are being removed based on feedback.
As they will reset all challenges, everyone that logged in from 23-30 Nov will get the weekly reward regardless of challenge completions.
XP boosts will last 1 hour.

EDIT:
Removed the exact XP count in my TL;DR as nothing has been confirmed or stated about this.

EDIT2:
The change is live. Matches now consistently provide 50XP

This is dumb, i do not understand why they dont just add points to everything you do in a match, then when you finisht he match, ALL the points are added up and go into the battlepass. Ive been playing and im barely hitting level 4. It’s just a joke of a system and 343 doesnt care, they want you to buy boosters and xp gains so you will rank up.

I imagine they probably will eventually but its a long and involved process to build and test new systems, this is just a bandaid to help negate some of the issues from the current system and will hopefully go a long way to making things feel a bit less frustraiting.

Eh.
Encouraging playing should’ve been done through incremental increases in XP rewards. 100xp is one level each ten matches.
Why not start at 50 XP for your first match and then build up to 200 XP per match.
Still good that it’s atleast leveled out so that you’re not netting less for playing more.

Some challenges? Means there are some of those ridiculous ones kept so that players still will get frustrated with them to use swaps.

Wow, getting a visor, that’s something atleast.

XP boosts lasting longer in time is first and foremost another AD for them, and people buy more, to speed up a progress bar i343 themselves limit. Also not good that it’s timed, rather than a set number of matches. Unless every match you start count towards it despite it having ended by the time you get your reward. Then again, matches may drag out and you could end up with very few matches completed in that hour.

Limit to the amount of challenges being tracked is untouched though.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. This is most likely a fix while they look at a deeper overhaul.

Ah! Yes, the XP boosts last longer, so now you can buy more! Cash cow moos in the distance

The intended design is to reward players who play often, not in huge playing blocks. It is an interesting approach, but unfortunately has been widely disapproved of by the vocal community.

I like the idea I can progress fairly quickly playing 4-6 games a day, rather than having to play more just to keep up with those that play 8 hours a day. You either get a grind people can finish too quick or one some people will never finish. This felt like a happy medium to appease both groups, but people seem to hate it. A shame really, it’s only been 3 days.

This won’t fix the issue of players just idling/goofing off to earn their stupid XP instead of actually playing the game. Just had people saying in chat they don’t care for the objective, they just wanna do the challenges and this is a major design flaw.
Reward XP for wins, reward XP for playing the objective. Otherwise the games are just playgrounds for grinders farming they ugly cosmetics.

This is intended as a stopgap afaik.
Here’s hoping that they go to a MCC or Reach like system for ranking up.

Step in the right direction at least.

I mean honestly I dont see why Infinite doesnt have a base progression system like the ones we saw in H3 and Reach. Since Reach is where 343i wants to pull a lot of insperation and marketing from I expected a system similar to Reach’s. With Commendations, performance, and jockpot mechanics, instead of Credits it would have been XP.

IMO the reason 343i released this BP and its progression was an attempt to push more ppl towards purchasing the Pass and the boosters along with it.

How has it been disapproved by the vocal community?
Daily challenges have been the only challenge based on days. Those have always been about completing any amount of matches. And the longer you progressed the lesser XP you started getting per match.

Nothing really changes except everyone getting more XP.

You’ll always be behind people who play more than you daily. Current system rewards them with more XP than you get now. I don’t really understand what “keeping” up means either, it’s no competition and others with more time will always get grinds done sooner than those without time.
Not only that but the whole concept flies out the window when you can purchase levels in the BP, and have XP boosts to use.

You guys know you can play for fun right now right?

They’re making the changes over the beta before Dec 8th. A lot of yall are getting hissy over some skins

I applaud these changes. It’s still far from perfect (the game still won’t reward you for performing great in a match) but much better than the current setup. It means that even if you don’t complete any challenges you will level up every 10 matches. I’m afraid this will still encourage people not to focus on objectives but on their current challenges but it’s a step in the right direction.

Also, I hope there will be more challenges to complete, and more “trivial” ones, like kills with the Assault Rifle, or just kills in general. Accumulating, say, 30 kills with anything would be a much better goal than trying to get 1 kill with some outlandish weapon we don’t even know where to find. I’m hoping for such challenges, and not these very specific ones.

I still think the progression opportunities should be expanded beyond these challenges only (not to mention the rewards, especially for non-paying players), but until that’s done I’m glad we get these changes so soon.

They are planning on doing this but it isn’t just a push of a button thing - there are alot of things that need designing and implementing to get that to work

Progression and a good time with it is part of the gameplay experience. Otherwise it wouldn’t be so heavily monetised and hard locked down behind this kind of grind.

Changes are being made because people are “hissy over some skins”.
If people kept their feedback in I doubt anything would change.

If that’s all there going to go to so for now then I’m going to just say it…this is not enough of a change to keep me playing in the long term. They need to seriously overhaul this system and make credits earnable. In it’s current state I’d go as far as I say I physically hate what there doing with the unlock system. The fact they seemingly are ignoring how predatory system is feels is concerning and doing very little to change this is irritating.

All this is doing is making me want to play MCC more. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

so they did the bare minimum required to not hurt the bottom line. did we expect pro consumer response? I have given up.

Please provide the source where this has been confirmed.

This is extremely important to get right.

With the current system it takes 19 games to obtain 1,050 XP from daily challenges (1,000 XP is a tier.)

With an updated system of 100 XP per game, it would only take 10 games - a good thing.

However, I have yet to see 343i confirm it will be 100 XP per game in the updated system.

I am worried they will give us consistent XP yes, but at only 50 XP per match instead.

50 XP per match (even consistently) is worse than the current system we have right now as it would then take 20 games to earn 1,000 XP.

Please post your source where you saw it is confirmed we will get 100 XP per match. Far too many people are saying this and I have seen no official word yet.

Yeah I agree to an extent. But at the end of the day, don’t hold too much hope when it’s a Microsoft game. They’re gonna make money somewhere.
