When I first started playing Halo 5, and for that matter Halo in general again, I honestly believed a lot of the things I had been experiencing were solely due to my actions or lack of having played since H3; the missed shots that looked good, the constant trading for assists after putting in the first five bullets, and an avalanche of other problems. It wasn’t until I did a few Google searches and scouring the internet for answers, I was directed to HaloWayPoint.com, where the flood gates really opened.
After clicking through a few threads, I started to realize, these were common issues and some that were far greater than I originally expected. When I first came to waypoint, I already had a some what negative view of Halo 5, but it kind of came full bloom once I started reading a lot of these posts. I realized two things: this is a community that cares about its franchise, and its also a community that seems to have a loud voice but the ear it wants to reach isn’t listening.
This isn’t a post about Halo 5 or my many grievances with it, its about my acknowledgement that Halo has a much stronger community than most other titles, probably because its such an awesome title that has serviced/catered to the every want and need of its fan base. What happened to that communication between the players and studio?
The more I come to this message board, which by the way is extremely entertaining cause I do love this community, I have this feeling deep down inside, maybe I was too greedy and demanded for a title that should of really been delayed till the end of June 2016? I’d love to get some feedback from 343i, or even some low level marketing reps the company employs to handle media relations; I’m tired of the protected live-streams which they face no scrutiny. Its time the community put the hammer down, effectively, and get that communication line opened again so we can “Make Halo Great Again” (yeah I’m based out of the USofA).
I’ve been dwelling on this a bit lately. There seems to be little to no transparency between Devs and the community anymore. At launch we had to go to third party sites to have open discussions with 343i Devs, and even now that’s become a thing of the past.
Each upcoming update has some snide phrase like “so and so is coming, but we can’t talk about that right now.” Why not? If you were under NDA you wouldn’t have been able to even mention it. You choose not to disclose information, and wouldn’t it be more beneficial to get feedback ahead of time?
IDK, this game frustrates me to no end, but I still keep playing it in hopes that one day things will balance out. HW2 needs to hurry the hell up.
343 is seemingly getting worse at community interaction as time goes on. Which is worrying.

I think what’s worse is that there is no trust on behalf of the community, so every little tweak and change the studio does do has this massive negative reaction because it kind of feels like it was done behind our backs or with little attention to any of the community suggestions.
Listen I understand these guys get paid millions of bucks and have the big budgets so they can bring this game to us, but if it’s 3/4 made up of things the community is against, why even bother with releasing the title in the first place? Halo 5 seems like a really sore, and prime example of a studio taking on the responsibility of creating what it “thinks” would be fun instead of actually doing the research.
Again, as much as 343i wants to define this title and franchise as their own, they can’t pervert it so badly that its legacy no longer applies to future titles.
they need more people on community (Bravo you need more help) so they can help better cartographers (looking at you phsyco duck) but the moniters are good but there should be a function that goes
community says something, cartographers and moniters relay it to people like bravo, grim and unyshek who then relay it to higher ups in 343
To be fair most threads nowadays are mainly abt ppl complaining about getting farmed and how the req system sucks for them and etc. The negative output by us doesnt help the devs to bother and read the threads cause they are just mainly pitiful complaints. Rarely they are good feedback like suggestions of UI updates and etc

You think those threads are buried somewhere in the back? I’m sure it started off with good intentions, I’ve reached the basement of this forum, and there are some pretty unique, and creative ideas, some 1000+ threads supporting many of these ideas, and unfortunately, once you’ve reached your threshold of being ignored, well yeah it’s time to bang on some walls and kick in a few doors cause the point ain’t getting across when done nicely.

I agree that some are good but as of late its been going on a downhill slide. There have been some good and creative ideas like the weapon crate if i rmb correctly someone came up with. Just that the quality of the threads need to take it up a notch

It doesn’t matter if people are bashing them. It’s there job, or like stated above, the job of the mediators to pick what is a useful thread and what is just a rant. I don’t get to pick and choice what tech ticket i get no matter how bad it is, or how rude the customer is. So my servers are acting up and I have a full mailbox and tons of emails. Your right just ignore it. No their job is to create a game that we will want to buy and play so they can make money. If they are that thin-skinned then, they need to just quit now and work in a less stressful job.
Call me crazy but I feel 343 communicates quite well. They have the daily message on the game not to mention news and bulletins here. They post on fb, Twitter, and reddit and probably a few more. Just because they don’t constantly address complaints and issues doesn’t mean they aren’t listening. Also sometimes they have addressed complaints awhile back but they shouldn’t have to constantly repeat themselves. Sure the information isn’t always spoon fed to players but it’s out there if players would actually take the time to try and find it.
Oh and I would like to add I know a lot of us think of Halo as “our” game… especially since most of us have been playing even before 343 starting making it… but at the end of the day it is their game and they can make it as they see fit… not every issue a player may have isn’t an issue that needs fixing or even addressing.

I guess this makes us both crazy. At the least, 343 does a better job with communicating with us more than Bungie did.

I think what the person was trying to say is its the same recycled garbage being spewed out. Do we really need 35 topics about no falcon? Do we really need 85 topics asking why I got banned when the answer is obvious? Alot of that is just maybe idiocy or people looking for attention. There are some good topics but they get pushed down by the legion of trolls.

But if you have such a strong push in the community on certain issues, wouldn’t you as a developer come right out and say, “Well guys, tough luck, we aren’t adding any Falcons, and to address your aiming issues, the choice was made to help you get accumulated to the ‘competitive’ direction we are taking the franchise.” Why is that so hard? Cause if they revealed these pieces of info, you’d go from 30k players to less than 1k overnight?

More intelligent posters would come here if 343 actually engaged here.

Well when you get tired and bogged down of reading things like…you suck, you’re an idiot, I’m never playing again…all the old tired adages that make up 90% of the topics you’d probably not pay attention to half either. Also, whether you like it or not “competitive” gameplay is the new in thing with FPS games so that is something yu are just going to have to accept. They are going to put out what they think will make them money regardless. Developers want to be “new, innovative.” Yes we all want new mixed in with old but every new Halo game there is going to be an old guard that doesn’t want to change. I am in no way saying I agree with everything in this game but that is just the way it goes. Cutting out on the whiny trash that plagues this forum is a start though but I know we cannot do much about who comes and goes in this forum.

Ya. you’re definitely crazy. Blizzard just released a 16 minute long video explaining how overwatch works under the hood in response to some player complaints.
I remember going on Bnet to the optimatch forum and shishka would be there on a daily basis having actual discussions with users about H3.
343 makes cookie cutter PR statements on Reddit once a month. Saying “were looking into it” is not community interaction. A bot could do that. Hell, im half convinced bravo is a bot at this point.

I agree with you. It’s just threads about irrelevant things, “bring back” posts, etc.
