343 responded about gamemode playlists

I would not be surprised if they were partially staggering features to keep up the player base but they clearly have more to put out than they were able to right away.

What a pathetic reply…there’s absolutely no excuse for it…I knew from the start that these stupid seasons would become the equivalent of the stupid rotation playlists of halo 5…and now we’re seeing that it’s even worse than that…I don’t believe at all that it’s because it needs to wait until “after the holidays”…

Some of us can play what we have for awhile…but it’s just not the point…it’s unbelievable to have staple game modes missing. Not only unbelievable…but truly unacceptable…and the only reason at all that it seems acceptable…is…

“Free to play”

THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR SIX YEARS!

We arent asking for the moon, we are asking for a SLAYER PLAYLIST OR SWAT, they are not inventing these things, they have been around for as long as the franchise existed.

I am going to give you the benefit of doubt that you are being genuine.
This game is not made for the average player or long time Halo fan. They dont give a crap about us. There are two groups of people they care about:

  1. Mr. Whale who will spend $5K in the cash shop, buy 500 challenge swaps at at a time and buy maxed battle passes for him and his friends. Limited time events with modes attached and a cash shop refreshed tied to them are shiny new bait for Mr.Whale.

  2. Investors. They look at MAU (monthly active user) numbers, gutting the game and having limited time events and modes brings players back on a monthly basis so that MAU number stays high and looks good to Mr.Hedge Fund.

Both of these groups spend WAY MORE $$$$$$$ than avegere joe. Doesnt matter how crappy the experience is for the average player just trying to get a game or two in after working 60 hours a week.

I’ve never read the reply you’re referring to…but…“map out their future”

We get that this games different…but mapping out their future shouldn’t consist of artificially delaying playlists in such a stupid way as to make it seem like oh wow guys…hey it’s season 6…and doubles is coming out…

That’s an example right there. I pulled that season 6 outa my behind sure…but at this rate dude…it seems like it’s very possible that that’s exactly what we will be going through especially in this 1st year life cycle…and that my friend…is depressing.

The free to play aspect of the game just won’t justify it to anyone who’s been playing halo…new players…even that’s a toss up…because they’ll just quickly find themselves staring at a screen wondering…is this really it?

At face value…a halo fan…loves halo…will stil play it…will keyboard warrior these replies like I have…but still play it…and I guess their understanding of that is perhaps why it probably doesn’t even worry them…and maybe new players won’t even visit the forums…let alone know stuff like swat, ffa, doubles, etc existed.

Thank you for you answer, I will take the time to explain why I think it has launched in this “bare bones” state.

They are having to factor in different pc types, all the different Xbox consoles and differing input methods for both. They probably had ideas about how this will present in the community, but they can’t do that without the game launching and opening up unforeseen issues. They have all this player data to assess.

Keeping it bare bones ensures they can focus as many players into less divisions so they can understand performance across the board and best match players initially. Nothing would put players off more than their first experience being in poorly matched skill or connection games. Having less playlists minimise these initial issues and allow them to understand how to proceed.

Ranked is 1 playlist split 3 ways, they’ll be able to better understand when they add more if they need to be split, or if they even can be split without compromising the integrity of the matchmaking.

Putting too many options out could have been a disaster. Most players will be happy with just playing and experiencing the new maps and games. So they can start rolling out more content now they’ve got all that data that explains what is working, what isn’t and how they can start to further divide the population without hurting each individual playlist.

Read my reply to the other guy I just wrote. That’s my thought process. I don’t think content will be drip fed once they understand how aggressively they can roll it.

They will only drip feed it if that’s necessary to protect the matchmaking process.

Ken, I would absolutely agree with you if it wasnt for one glaring thing. The MCC.

All of the potential problems and issues you state wouldve been factors there too but when you look at the MCC you have crossplay between XBOX and PC, you have playlists, you have multiple ranked modes. And all of this is juggled between Halo CE, 2, 3, reach, ODST, and 4. FIVE GAMES.

I wish the reasoning behind their decisions was technical but it really isnt, all signs point to it being about a predatory monetization system.

What this actually means is - We had no intentions of ever having more playlists, so now we have to redesign the UI to support more.

Your point? You act like game development is anything different than any other product development. Imagine having other products that release half finished and then a year later after you paid to use said product is finished.

Buy a new car, but wait, they didn’t have enough time to add in locks to the car. I’ll have to go back to the shop in 6 months for them to add that feature in. Oh, you want to be able to use your GPS you advertised for, sorry our team is still working on it, come back in a year and we will get that working for you.

Modern gaming has turned into a laughing stock. I could care less on what goes into it, as other products have the same constraints but yet have to deliver a COMPLETE product before selling it.

Instead of spending so much damn time with the store, they could have allocated more resources to the actual game. I guess I’m just getting to old, as I remember when games had to be complete before launching. No day one patches, no live services, once it’s shipped, that’s the game. It’s really sad to see your hobby burst into flames each game release.

What they did have intentions of was a limited time cash shop for each of these modes for MR.WHALE.
Gaming in 2021 is so “fun”

They had 3 years to create more than 3 playlists. Every other Halo had the same amount of development time and yet this one is shipping with 3.

Just blows my mind how people can think that this is fine. The only reason they are working on releasing more after launch is because of the community outrage.

I read it. Kind of makes sense…kind of doesn’t.

What’s easier to gage skill in? A playlist where you’re playing a variety of game modes? Or a playlist where it’s only 1? Think about that for awhile.

In terms of input…They’re doing more harm than good by not segregating the players. We NEED segregation with the OPTION to not be segregated. Input devices are not balanced nor will they ever truly be balanced…

But odd ball, strong holds, ctf…easier to gage skill than slayer…swat…nah no way man. Absolutely not. It can’t be for that reason. It just doesn’t make sense.

I’m not sure MCC has been that useful due to such a low population and the ranking modes being a total disaster.

Definitely a fair point though.

Pretty much. It’s whatever though. At least they are making the changes. The one thing I can give 343i is they listen to their community and attempt changes. Had this been an activision game, we would be SOL.

Even though this shouldn’t be an issue, I’ll take a small win and enjoy swat when it comes out.

Thank you. One thing I think we both agree on is that we want Halo Infinite to get better  have a great day.

It would and it wouldn’t.

It all depends on the theory behind selling the product. Do you make more cutting out the Old Gen and making it easier on the devs to offer a better product at a time when the new console supply chain is down? Or do you include the OG making it harder on the devs, but use the time-frame to make money off FTP and the Campaign. Then hope you get a good reception, and hold off on releasing the best version till you know the console supply chain is better.

Either way it’s a gamble.

You risk blowing the marketing budget and 3rd party promotions in hopes you get a better supply chain and sell more new consoles.
Or you save the budget and hope fans aren’t fickle enough that they move on before everything gets released.

Ironically I think they are losing out on a lot of potential revenue for doing this. After all, the player count IS dropping at a reasonable pace.

I offer a solution, to any 343 dev reading through this thread looking for feedback. Firstly, copy CODs matchmaking system. Have one list for normal, have another for BTB, let people choose which modes they want to load into, then let them load into them. If your wanting the COD audience like you always have, you have to offer them systems that are similar or better, not flat out worse. That should have been a no brainer for anyone who understands economics.

The second thing to do, which is to maximize revenue, is to scrap the current shop system and let people buy every individual shop cosmetic at a flat rate. 100cr for inconsequential things like coatings and emblems, 200cr for armor pieces, and 250cr for event/fracture items. Also add in the ability for people to earn a total of either 25 or 50cr for completing all of the weekly challenges, as that alone will probably increase player retention and allow people to feel like they are earning stuff in game.

Just a heads up, I doubt they would do this, as 343/MSoft have their collective heads so far up their own bums they will try to stick to their current system to be “safe” even though it’s clearly losing them potential revenue.

Completely out of left field here, but it kills me that we are reduced to getting our communications from 343i from third party sources like Twitter and Reddit… what’s the point of revamping and updating the forums when the creators themselves don’t even utilize it. Hell, we haven’t even gotten a news article about either of the progression updates on the main site.

As a matter of fact… yes, I have. And now? I’m telling you… we don’t have more playlists because MS have to approve something or 343 has to optimize and test stuff.

343 is going the “how much is tge community willing to accept” route all the way.
