lol So today i was really craving to listen to the halo soundtracks and Die in my beautiful nostalgic thoughts, and i must say that i (And not only i cause the fans think this also) Really really miss the old original sound of halo. don’t get me wrong H4 music was good but felt like it was meant for another game understand what I’m saying? it was too dramatic. it didn’t feel whole with the halo story like the previous games. Don’t jeopardize the games Artistic feel for bucks. really hope H5 brings the originality back…

I really do miss the Halo theme, it doesn’t feel like Halo without it. It made sense with ODST and Reach, but not that Chief’s back, we need that theme.
Oh…and…well…Marty’s unemployed…so… hint.
thats what I’m saying ODST had that jazzy twist but you still knew you were playing halo same goes with reach. and Exactly it would be a Perfect move for them to hire Him
I think H4 was still original, but it did lack the halo chants which means not the halo feel.
Every time I see or hear someone complain about H4’s soundtrack, I bang my head against a wall.
The H4 soundtrack utilizes motifs and themes from the old trilogy in many of its tracks. You just need to listen more closely. The most obvious example is the main theme being present in “117”. You also hear it in “Sacrifice”. Also, the entire first two minutes or so of “Faithless” is basically an amazing remix of “Lone Wolf” from Reach’s soundtrack.
To sum it up, I simply don’t buy the argument that H4’s soundtrack isn’t as good because it doesn’t “sound like Halo.” Perhaps the reason H4’s soundtrack is my favorite so far is because of how they took old themes and gave them new flair. Not to mention that the brand new music fits in with the current context of the universe. It’s a different threat and a different enemy, one that will be on a scale much larger than we have seen in any previous game. I think the added drama is warranted. Just my two cents…
> Perhaps the reason H4’s soundtrack is my favorite so far is because of how they took old themes and gave them new flair.
Halo 4 has very loud and ‘epic’ sounding music along with many very, eh, (synth?) sounding pieces. Past songs were much more subtle and sullen (and of course of a different genre entirely in many cases, you don’t really hear chanting or guitars in Halo 4).
Sure, the new music could be considered fitting to the new story. But it does sound entirely different, and not everyone likes that. Personally I find it generic. I’ve heard the same style of music in a lot of media.
At any rate I’m saying this listening to it on youtube. It could barely be heard in the game itself.
When I think of Halo, I think of the mystical, Windows XP-sounding A Walk In The Woods from Halo: CE, the exotic and alien beats of Halo 2’s Penance, the iconic, legendary strings of Halo 3’s Behold A Pale Horse, and the wicked -Yoinking!- guitar squeals from pretty much any of the games.
In Halo 4 I got pretty much none of that besides a lot of Behold A Pale Horse copycats. The rest of the OST consisted of generic remixes of Star Wars and the OST’s from the newer Transformers movies, all with tiny bit of dubstep-influence to run parallel with 343’s vision of Forerunner design: high-tech, high sci-fi, lots of silver robotic stuff with some generic blue and orange hue contrasts.

Hello to every Halo fan and the 343i,
These are some adjustments that 343i needs to do in order for a good, solid, legit matchmaking experience.First of all you should make another Halo reach, I know that Halo 4 was your first game but just take a look at the amount of online players, Halo reach has more players than Halo 4, this actually means that people don’t care about graphics, not completely but they care much more about the gameplay. Just take a look at Halo Reach, You would never get tired of playing it but after a couple of matches in halo 4, you just want to quit. I don’t know why but it’s just the way it is. About the servers, When bungie was in charge, I NEVER LAGGED IN REACH, but when 343i was in charge, I ALWAYS LAGGED IN REACH, H5 is gonna be on dedicated servers so I hope that we won’t have the connection problems. About the armor customization, I can say that you didn’t put any effort in it. They were ugly, that’s all. Why didn’t you put an option for elite armor? Why didn’t you put INVASION in the playlist? for god sake, that was like the best game mode. Spartan ops is pretty good but why didn’t you put Firefight! . And at last, Better Grifball.
this is all, I hope you fix these stuff in H5 so we could have a great multiplayer experience.
1-Better Gameplay
2-Better armor customization
3-Elite Armor
4-Invasion
5-Better servers
6-firefight
7-Better Grifball
Well, Marty left Bungie because they wouldn’t pay his vacation time or some -Yoink-, so if he decides to keep working on Halo, he’ll join up with 343i (and hopefully get away with a good chunk of those shiny new Antivision paychecks when the lawsuit comes to its conclusion). Assuming that doesn’t happen, however, and I don’t think it will, they’ll either keep the current guy or hire someone else entirely.

What do you think makes it so special? Why do you think childhoods are so fondly remembered? Because they go away. You don’t want to live your life chasing your childhood … that’s Michael Jackson territory there. Let it be fond memories.
Also, as said above, the Halo 4 soundtrack is chalk full of musical references to the older scores. Plus, as someone who’s been playing, writing and recording music for nearly two decades, it’s better. Musically, not in terms of opinion.
Which isn’t necessarily saying much. I mean, just because an artist is a great musician doesn’t mean their music is enjoyable. It may be more complex and technical, musically speaking, but at the same time quite boring. An example of a great musician making lousy music: Kenny G. An example of lousy musicians making great music: The Ramones.
Anyway, I like the Halo 4 soundtrack. I think it fits the game perfectly. The old music has a special place in my heart, but I don’t think it would have worked in Halo 4.

Do you usually bang your head against the wall when people don’t like music that you like?
I don’t buy this “doesn’t sound like Halo” -Yoink- either. The Halo 4 soundtrack just sounds awful to me.
Every time I hear the title screen music I hurry to play something from my Xbox’s music just to make it stop.

As much as I like the Halo 4 soundtrack, I will admit, that gets pretty old.

Once the strings set in, IMO, Atonement surpasses the original Halo theme.
Halo 4’s soundtrack was good, but it’s too different from the previous soundtracks. I agree; it’s almost like it was written for a different game. I really didn’t feel like the synthesized pieces fit, but I do think that the orchestral pieces (like 117 and Green and Blue) were great and fit well.

If you can’t tell without “listening closely,” then its only purpose is to be a musical Easter Egg. It’s a new composer for a new trilogy/saga; of course it sounds different.

Correction: he got fired. In other words, they kicked him out. While agree it would be nice for him to work on Halo again, i’m almost certain he won’t. Halo music in general needs to lean back more towards Marty’s style. It doesn’t have to be the same, but it can at least draw more inspiration from it.
I like h4 music as well, which is why i am always quick to jump to the defensive when i see things like “Halo 4 music sucks”, or “Neil has no talent, get Marty back”. I think thats really childish. But admittedly, there are some legitimate complaints too, like the music sounding too much like Star Wars, or generic sci-fi. I am among one of those people.

Yeah the H4 soundtrack has a few cool songs, but most of it sounds like it was ripped straight out of an Ace Combat or Socom Navy Seals game.
I literally could listen to the H4 soundtrack and play Socom or Ace Combat and think to myself “this fits so perfectly”. It is NOT Halo music.
Yeah, that’s because Halo 4’s soundtrack had more of a Reclaimer saga feel to it.

The title screen music reminded me of Battlestar Galactica, and that’s a good thing.

New story arc = new themes/events = new music to reflect those themes/events.
