343, please learn from their example

Don’t sell map packs. You’ll just fragment the community and frustrate the community.

Sell customizations instead and use the profits from that to fund map packs which you then give away to the community.

Tho I do agree with you, I don’t think 343i has a choice in the matter.

They can make a case to MS.

Map packs weren’t worth the buy for Reach and H4 because you wouldn’t be getting your money’s worth from them.

Epic has made money off selling gun and player skins and microtransactions funded ME3 MP enough to make a plethora of map packs.

Then explain.

Shouldn’t be selling microtransactions in the first place. The only reason there were for H4, was because people practically begged for Mark V and ODST.

PS. The H4 DLC maps are better than the On disc maps.

The DLC maps being better is a moot point if you can’t find them in default play and have to go to an under populated playlist to see them. Provided the playlist even supports the gametype you want to play and provided that people even vote for it.

So then they need a new system for including DLC maps. The best ideas for maps in Halo games sometimes come post-release.

> So then they need a new system for including DLC maps.

The only solution I see that addresses the problem is giving the maps away for free, using the profits from other sellable products to fund them.

Well most of us don’t wanna play the same three maps for the rest of eternity.

Now I see what the problem is.

Is the edit better?

That is actually a REALLY good idea.

Or required DLC, and a multiplayer disc pack around a year later.

This.
Halo 3 style was best.

Your idea is seemingly good.
But what if they’re aren’t enough people buying the micro-transactions to fund the map packs?
Obviously problematic.

But still, your idea is good.

Then you’re making the game, or the majority of it, pay to play.

The main gametypes won’t have this. I see Slayer gametypes, flood, and Skirmish not having these. Besides, you can wait the year for the disc based Map DLC which would likely come with something special (IE: Halo 3 DLC maps came with Halo 3:ODST)

> The main gametypes won’t have this.

You’re still sectioning off parts of the game.

> Besides, you can wait the year for the disc based Map DLC which would likely come with something special (IE: Halo 3 DLC maps came with Halo 3:ODST)

Doesn’t change the fact that people still have to buy the disc to get access to the rest of the game. The fact that they are saving money, at the price of having to wait even longer for the Map DLC disc to come out, is a small consolation prize.

I’m personally not a fan of free DLC, except for how Playstation all-stars did it. (I think they had it for free for a few months, then afterword you had to pay for it) What do you mean by wait even longer for the Map DLC disc to come out? Get it over live, or wait for the map DLC disc, its not that hard.

The reason map packs were pointless to own in Reach and Halo 4 is because they were not properly integrated. All 343 has to do to fix this is to refine the search filters.

I’ll use CoD as an example. I never once had trouble playing on any of the maps I have paid for in that series. Why? Because if you are in a lobby full of people that vote for a DLC map, the players who don’t have that map are removed from said lobby and replaced with people who do. The game also prioritizes finding you players and matches with maps you purchased and it does a damn fine job of it. You can even turn searching for DLC maps on and off if you only want to play the default maps.

343 can do any of these same features and it would be infinitely better than what we had for the last 3 Halo games. There would be no need for DLC required playlists. The days of never playing on the maps you bought would be over, and it would not divide the community or affect the populations of any playlist.

343 needs to set it up so that we can search for other players that have the map packs we have. I agree with not requiring players to get the packs to play in play list because now a days the economy sucks and not everyone can afford them. But for those that can afford them we are getting boned pretty hard core when we never get to play with maps we paid for.
