I’ve been playing Halo since 2001 and have read most of the books. I would like to see other Spartans in Halo games, but not if they’re going to be cheapened. I see a disturbing trend that started in Halo Reach with giving the Spartans colorful armor and wildly varied armor. Now in Halo 5 it looks like we have jetpacks and glowing visors. In Halo 4 Master Chief’s armor had huge gaps in it and it looks like Halo 5 has that too. In Halo Nightfall we see two Spartans who don’t seem special at all. They just seem like average Joe guys. Basically, it feels to me like the Spartans are being cheapened and turned into Power Rangers/Gundam fighters.
Spartans are supposed to be few and far between, rare, lower case spartan, forces of nature.
Not anymore. Spartans can be produced in far greater numbers now from consenting adults. As Halsey said in Halo 4, the Spartans are the next evolution of man.
Also none of the characters in Halo Nightfall are Spartans. Locke is not a Spartan yet as we can see from his fight with the elite and Randall is no longer a Spartan and seems to have lost his enhancements.
So making the Spartans stronger with more advanced armor that lets them pull off feats much more like the Spartans of the EU and giving them more armor options cheapens them? Whatever you say, buddy.
Well, when the new armor came out in 4 I was a little upset that it no longer looked “military”. Then as the cutscenes played in both the campaign and Spartan Ops it was clear that Spartans no longer operated as a military unit. Then I learned that they were no longer Marines or even Army, but their own “thing”. They no longer have rank and the command structure is not clear. This does not bode well as Sun Tzu was very clear about command structure, order, and discipline. Perhaps the story arc needs things to fall apart in order to come together again. As it stands it appears the UNSC believes technology alone makes a superior fighting force. I don’t find Spartan IVs to be as inspiring as Spartan IIs.
