SO what I’m getting at here is much like how EA does it with Battlefield. You buy the the game new and you get the first map pack for free. Or like how Gears of War 2 did it with the free flashback packs that came inside every new copy of GOW2.
How awesome would it be to open up Halo 4 and not only do you have the disk with all the great maps that come with the game but you also get a DLC code for a decent map pack. A lot of people will complain about this idea because nobody likes the idea of holding content back from some people. Gears of War didn’t really do this though as it had a bunch of maps at launch not including the free DLC. I just want a nice bit of maps to start the game out with. Nothing like Reach where their was only like 8-9 maps not including forgeworld maps and you only got to play like 2 of them.
Would anyone else like a free map pack for buying the game new? I’m not saying as a pre-order item either. Reguardless of when you purchase the item every new copy would come with the maps.
Yes, I’d like a free map pack. But nothing’s free in this world.
Why not just give the map to everybody on the game disk on day 1 rather than have a silly “Buy new exclusive” DLC? That would just piss people off.
Ugh, none of these new copy exclusives. If people want to buy a used game let them.
Nothing’s free except for air, and the heroic map pack.

People will find a way to complain reguardless of which way it’s done. If their were a say throwback map pack as free DLC it would feel as if it were just extra maps for the love of the community. If they were on disk people would take it as “What the EFF 343 why U mAke So mAny REmAeKz!”. With the way -Yoink!- is they know they could make money off of Halo any which way so they don’t really care about including extra things at launch. I’m not going to say this is how it went down but I believe -Yoink!- even took the liberty of having Bungie hold some maps back at launch for the Noble DLC. We got beyond shafted with the Reach launch maps and I hope to god it doesn’t happen again with Halo 4. -_-
Not a bad idea but doubt full since its a big money maker for 343.

Hmm, good point. I could see how having it as a Day 1 free DLC would make people feel like they were getting free maps rather than have it already on the disc, but isn’t that the community’s problem rather than 343i or Microsoft’s?
Then again, most people will be buying Halo 4 new anyway, so it won’t affect them, and those who are planning to get it used might be inclined to buy it new now… So I can see how this would be a potential good business idea.
