343 needs to...

To halt the criticism threads (which I generally agree with) 343 needs to come out and do three things:

  1. Apologize for creating an incomplete game
  2. Acknowledge the problems (each one they plan to address)
  3. Set a reasonable time table to fix them.

Otherwise, as you can see on halocharts.com the population of this game will likely continue to slide down.

Full explanations->

  1. Whether you like the H4 or not it, it is clearly not complete. Whole bits are missing from campaign (e.g. scoring), SO (e.g. theater), multiplayer (e.g. customizations), and forge (e.g. weapon spawn timers). This was likely to get the game out in 2012 which is unfortunate since it was not ready.

  2. To confirm to people who are upset that you hear them, state what you see as a problem and how you will address it.

  3. Finally put in place a time table and stick to it. If there is a problem with it come out before hand and say, that you cannot meet the deadline. If it happens on the fly post on twitter or the front page quickly.

Making mistakes is fine owning up to them is important.

Hey look! Someone who thinks that they are in charge of 343!

HaloChart? Oh please. I want to see how many bought the game and how many of them has Xbox live.

> Hey look! Someone who thinks that they are in charge of 343!

I am not implying I am in charge, I am giving advice on how to fix the problems that currently abound. If you want to be sarcastic feel free to type into a word doc and read it yourself.

On the other point, halocharts.com is important because it represents long term interest in the game. Without a system to keep gamers coming back to a game it will not last long. That is way SO is released in an episodic format, to keep people coming back.

The game isn’t incomplete IMO; the removal of scoring in general from the Campaign, as I see it, is a good way to cut out the damn bragging people do with “ha lol luuzur I g0t a hi-ur skor3 than U”, besides, what does a score matter? It’s just more HUD clutter. As for the Theater in Campaign, they said they’ll add it later.

How are Customizations incomplete? They all seem to be there, and I’ve hit 58 :S

Other small things will probably be added later. Just -Yoink- enough and they’ll get put in.

As for the last two things, that should be a given, I’ll agree there, but they’ll do it when they’re good and ready. Just have some patience and calm down.

P.S. I don’t think citing HaloCharts is a good way to prove a point in terms of Halo traffic :S It’s like citing Wikipedia for a term paper, but that’s just personal gut feeling.

My problem is your saying 343 has to come out and apologize for an incomplete game. Why should they have to apologize for offending others’ opinions? There are tons of people who think Halo 4 is perfectly fine. Just because it didn’t have stuff people wanted in it doesn’t mean its incomplete. They couldn’t get Theater into Campaign or Spops, not because they didn’t feel like it, but because they couldn’t! The Scoring system isn’t required.

A lot of the stuff that isn’t in it will probably be added in a TU. But 343 doesn’t have to say squat to the community.

Incomplete game? Ah Internet people these days.

@Blade

At first you said the game is not incomplete then you said that things still need to be added. So by definition you are saying the game is incomplete and are agreeing with me. You don’t have to hate 343 to admit the game is incomplete. In addition I did not even mention the fact that waypoint does not really work with H4 as intended yet.

I have never heard that bragging from campaign scoring was a problem before, and really don’t think it should ever have been removed.

Halocharts is different from wikipedia since it reports raw data, whereas wikipedia is created de novo from people’s ideas. You cannot argue that 2+2=4, but you can argue that slavery caused the American revolution.

By saying that things need to be added you are agreeing that the game is incomplete, otherwise why would they need to add core content?

Ignorance is strong with this one.
This forum has officially gotten below -Yoink!-/b level.

Good comment, really helps to lay your points out. It only further confirms to me that I am right and that this forum is full of fan boys.

Why? Because you say so?

Sorry, they’ll do what they want. And address what problems? They may have a hard time addressing ‘problems’ that are the way they designed the game.

As well, if they were to address certain things, the community would then complain that they are doing too much, or should change more, have done too little, etc.

Everybody has an opinion and it seems that every person here demands that their individual concerns be addressed immediately.

Wasn’t their explaination for removing Theater from Campaign b/c of not enough room on the disk? If that was the case, would like your game on 3 disks a la Final Fantasy, or would you rather have waited until the XBOX 720 came out with Blu-Ray functionality to allow for the massive data requirement for the game? Remember that the 2nd disk for Halo 4 had all the MULTIPLAYER CONTENT alone. I get that it probably was a fairly poor decision to cut some core features to add at a later date, but at least they ARE adding them and it’s not like EA where they intentionally cut things out and charge you up the bunghole for that stuff.

You weren’t even paying attention were you?

If by that you mean the people who says Halo 4 is like Cod, then yes, its full of Halo 3 fan-boys. Since that is usually who you find raging through these forums.

If they don’t feel there are problems, that is fine but they need to state what they will if they do, and what they will not. People are complaining so much because they are afraid their concerns will not be heard.

If the issue is truly a disk space problem, the content should have been ready to go day one by download (as they are going to have to do now anyway).

I am not saying they have to come crawling back to the community, but a quick apology and list of the problems would go a long way to rebuilding trust in the community.

You’re not the only person complaining here. Just look at this forum
Since Reach, they wanted grenades to be nerfed. The moment Halo 4 comes out, they want them buffed.
People want all AAs to be nerfed. The moment Halo 4 comes out, they want them buffed.
People want the magnum to be buffed. The moment Halo 4 comes out, they want it nerfed.
People wanted the AR to get a buff since Halo Combat Evolved. When it finally gets buffed, they want it nerfed.
People want JIP because of quitters. The moment Halo 4 comes out, they don’t want JIP.
People complain about Elites having different hitbox and want them removed. Elites get removed and people want to play as Elites.
People complain about warthogs being too strong for slayer games. It gets a nerf against players and a massive buff against vehicles and they want the warthog to be buffed against players.
People complain about DMR having bloom. They remove it and people complain about the lack of bloom.
And I could go on for hours. This is a comedy!

No matter what 343 does, adds, changes, people are going to complain about it. That’s why they’re hesitant to actually add new things. Developer should do with their game what THEY want. If they give me the opportunity to give my opinion, I’ll give them one. It’s just that majority of people don’t understand the concept of giving an opinion and present opinions as universal facts.

I agree. This game is definitely unfinished.

I am not talking about any of that material, I am talking specifically about bugs and missing content. The discussion of what is Halo is not in this thread, and of course people will like some parts and not others. But the developer is far from scared to add content, H4 had huge amount of changes added to it.

Why bother? Whiners gonna whine. Time to play some Halo 4 and give valuable ingame data to the developer.

> Hey look! Someone who thinks that they are in charge of 343!

Hey, look! Someone being a jerkwad because someone dared try and post a reasonable criticism of the status quo! They clearly need to be mobbed by all the sheeple!

And this is why this forum is so damn toxic…
