343 needs to give up the Canon Multiplayer mindset

This game focuses too much on “realism”. Let’s be honest, this game is fiction and is supposed to be fun/competitive but 343i forgets that. They want you to think this is real/canon which I can promise that the minority of the community agrees with their direction. I can live with “realism” as long as it doesn’t interfere with the fun or creativity of the game. Should you be restricted from being an Elite aboard the Shadow of Intent or the Infinty because this is canon/spartan only simulator? Should you be forced to be a Spartan IV intead of a Spartan II? Should the Katana armor be removed because it is not canon or because it doesn’t fit any role?

I don’t mind Spartan abilities, competitive multiplayer, or even Spartan Chatter. What I do mind the most is the “Canon multiplayer”/Spartan Simulator/Spartan Identity (And Announcer which was never needed to be changed in Halo 4. It was at its prime in Reach, in my opinion.) 343 has to give up the Canon Multiplayer mindset because it interferes too much with the creativity aspect of the game and the Elite community. Thanks for reading and like if you agree.

So you want halo 2.5?

It doesn’t interfere with anything. If they want to put something in they will put it in. People blaming the canon excuse are just trying to find an excuse for 343 not putting elites into multiplayer. I’m not saying those people don’t deserve some kind of answer, but blaming the choice to make multiplayer is absolutely absurd.

Verisimilitude =/= realism

First of all, I never said I disagree with halo 5’s multiplayer mechanics. Second of all, it is not the Elite community’s excuse, it is actually 343i’s excuse for not includong them. Third of all I never said it realism is equal to verisimilitude. I said that the Canon Multiplayer aspect restricts creativity to a point.

You said “they want you to think this it’s real /canon”

No

They want to make the game verisimile which is dependant on canon wich they established

I can only give them props for it

In other words, you are in favor of canon multiplayer. My question to you is why? Is it because of gameplay? The Spartan Identity? A different approach? Or because it feels like you are in a simulation?

Because there is no point in having great canon and expanded universe if you throw them out The b window like mass effect

Wouldn’t it be beneficial to practice fighting elites, brutes and knights?

Apparently this is what The military deemed best

Jesus, is that your only argument?

Canon is irrelevant in competitive multiplayer. It doesn’t add anything. It only restricts it. We couldn’t play as elites in 4 because “plot reasons blah blah blah”. But what did that add? What did we gain? A tiny justification for progressive unlocks (better gear for higher ranked individuals) that every single person who has played a shooter in history already expected just because they are genre-savy. No one is saying to get rid of the established universe (except for Disney when it comes to Star Wars). We are sayign that it has its limits and needs to stay there. Spartan Ops was an excellent way to bring the storyline into a multiplayer setting. But when every game of Nuketown ends with the place being, well, NUKED and no one complains about Activision and multiplayer and canon, I think there is a lesson to be learned there.

Canon constricts elements. Features from previous games have to be scrapped to fit. The ultimate cause is one of two things: 1,a company being too damn full of themselves to give players back somethign they previously loved that has no bearing on the actual game universe, or 2, a company is too lazy to figure out hit boxes on two different character models for balancing and thus refuses to do it. I’m inclined to believe the latter given how buggy MCC has been.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Lol because having a COSMETICALLY different model gained what exactly to competitive multiplayer??

They’ve never used that as an excuse to exclude the elites. So my point still stands. And there is no reason for the canon to restrict anything in the multiplayer. The multiplayer is pretty much Halo’s version of a holodeck. They can put anything in there. Why else would there be freaking soccer balls and golf balls in forge?

Where have you been? They did use that as an excuse. Read the longest thread in Halo Waypoint about Elites. It states it in the OP’s “introduction”, if that makes sense. And if they could put anything in there, why don’t they put Elites there?

I’d like to see an actual quote from 343 that states that canon multiplayer was the reason they didn’t put elites in. Too many threads to sift through to look for it. As for your question, they just plain don’t want to. But we don’t have any confirmation on whether they will be in Halo 5 or not so this is really premature.

I actually like the high-fives and MLG callouts. It’s charming and gives the game personality. I think this set of changes was for the better.

Well, there’s Mark VI Gen 1 armor, which is obsolete, and the ‘Scarred’ variant, which has a cracked visor. That doesn’t seem entirely canon. Plus, the multiplayer being canon separated Halo and Call of Duty in another way. CoD sacrifices realism for fun gameplay. I want Halo to have realism AND fun gameplay.

I want armor effects back.

EDIT: not armor abilities, said that by accident lol
