343 definitely needs to decide, between competitive and casual, between halo 2/halo 3 or reach style.i remember an interview from halo fest i guess,in which frankie said that they want to make halo 4 for every kind of player, they want to make everyone happy
BUT thats wrong 343,cause there always will be someone who hates the game,so instead of trying to make it for all people you should focus on how halo really was, competitive, ranking system, fast gameplay(just halo 2/halo 3 style with some new things) OR you’ll choose reach style and make it for casual gamer again
i know halo 4 will hit the stores like a nuclear bomb and i know its a big project for you and your first game, thats why i would make it MORE like Halo2/halo 3 so your on the safe side for the beginning,im not against changes but dont do such a big jump like from halo 3 to reach, the changes from halo 2 to halo 3 were perfect
in my opinion halo 4 should return to halo 2 style
> casual means better sales and a shot at COD so you have to understand why they would go casual
Casual and Halo have never mixed.
Creating the game solely for casual gamers is an incredibly stupid idea. Not only would they lose the die hard fans Bungie worked so hard to get but they’d also be known as the company for making Halo even worse than it already is.
The TU is aimed at competitive gamers and it’s slowly taking over Reach, what does that tell you?
It tells me that Halo 4 will have mainly competitive playlists and only a few for the casual gamer.
After Reach, Halo fans need something good because Halo 4 is the last hope, it either makes the series, or breaks it.
This game is a hit or miss for 343i, it will make or break them let’s face it. They now hold all that is Halo in their hands, if the first game of the new trilogy is a flop, then who’s going to buy the next two?..not me. I don’t think that 343i will go with the “Reach” style of game play for Multi-player. It was very ill received by most players; argue with that statement if you want, but its more than apparent that Halo: Reach pushed a lot of fans and gamers away from the series. If that were my opinion I’d say so, but sadly it is more so fact.
Halo 4 should play like Halo 4, bottom line. It should however use that core Halo formula in CE-3. Why? Because it works. Im NOT, and I will repeat NOT saying Halo 4 should be Halo 3 with a polished look. Im also NOT saying they shouldnt innovate with this next game/trilogy. They def should evolve the game, but for the better. Making a game similar to Halo: Reach would spell death for 343i and they know it.
No Bloom.
No AA’s.
New better Maps (remakes of some classics)
Ranking system (1-50) like Halo 2’s
Clan feature
New weapons
BR back
And of course 343i’s own gameplay elements! (it is their game after all lol)
IMO these changes could bring about the greatest FPS to make its way to the xbox 360, or any console for that matter.
I know most people will brand my post with “full of fail” etc… BUT…
Reach is the most skill based Halo game since Halo 1. I don’t care what anyone says with the random bloom and the armor abilities. Halo Reach has less aim assisting that Halo 2 and Halo 3 and has “more competive” movement out of all the games. The aim assisting is the biggest thing. Halo 2 basically aimed your shots for you and Halo 3 just felt down right broken considering the leading the shots thing didn’t work as it should have IMO.
I think that Halo 4 should be like Halo 2 though because their was the secret factors that helped players and make them feel like they were good. Like crazy amount of bullet magnetism. The more people that feel like they are good the less people that quit the game.

i agree that halo 4 should be like halo 2 but reach is never the most skill based halo game NEVER,maybe aim assisting was a little bit more intensiv than in reach,BUT halo 2 and 3 were the most skill based halo games(high game speed not slowed down, you needed aim with the BR like hell, you had no chance without aim and movement, strafing,do this words tell you something honey?i dont think so
i remember when i first played mlg in halo 2 or halo 3,i just got ******* out BRd and i didnt even hit my opponent once, after some games i improved but i still had no chance against pros, then around 1 year after halo 3 release i was able to outbr some pros too,and i needed a long time to improve, and today people without skill still cant beat me,even if they are playing halo 2 and 3 for a long time,it depends on skill, and the halo2/3 ranking system showed your skill(teamplay, callouts, all this stuff)
I hope that they choose a more competitive feel for Halo 4 so that it’s more like the original trilogy where the better player usually won in a 1v1 encounter (keep out random elements).
I have to disagree here. Halo’s presence (at one time) in the mainstream media brought a large number of casual and non-gamers to the game. I do, however, think that such a mass influx of casual players is unlikely to happen again. The name isn’t as popular as it once was. Whether or not it peaks again during the release of Halo 5 and/or Halo 6 will be an interesting thing to watch.
It needs to go one way or the other, I prefer it to be more like Halo 2 tbh. When you go half and half you generally just end up -Yoink!- off the hardcore players and the casuals still think its a little hard so they just go back to CoD.
They need to aim at 1 type of player, not try to get all of them with a mixed playstyle. If they try to appeal to everyone, alot of people wont like it.
Epic Games did the same thing with Gears 3 and the hardcore players are getting fed up and the casuals think its still to hard and they go right back to CoD.
Make the game appeal to 1 type of player and just cut your losses, imo.
> When you go half and half you generally just end up -Yoink!- off the hardcore players
People are too concerned about the feelings of hardcore players, especially considering that they are the ones who will sit on a game for several years without buying new iterations immediately. 343 Industries should be primarily concerned with entertainment, not an endless cycle of tweaking and fine-tuning in order to satisfy the most pedantic gamers. The game will always be played competitively, even if it isn’t played by MLG and their ilk.
