I don’t believe in a good “battle pass”. The entire system is predatory at its core. The idea of grinding a game nearly completely sucks the fun out of it. And if microtransactions have to exist at all, they should consist of optional pieces (such as armour permutations never before seen that are included alongside familiar and other newer designs). The fact that these clearly less-fun and greedier systems are accepted by the masses in the current era of gaming is incredibly concerning.
I think it’s a fine idea, but unless 343 is convinced that it will significantly improve engagement in the paid battle pass I don’t see why they’d do that
They definitely need to.
You can earn in-game currency from the battle pass in Fortnite and in Apex Legends they literally just let you earn the currency JUST by playing the game.
Wow, imagine having to compare Halo to Fortnite - a far lesser game, to get better results in Halo… way to go 343

I would have to agree 100%. Most if not all games I’ve played be it F2P or not have or have implemented ways to earn premium currency via in-game playing. Usually it’s not a whole lot of earned premium currency so there’s still plenty of incentive to purchase these premium currencies with cash. Even though it’s usually a small amount of premium currency given, the absolute vast majority of players are always glad they give out small amounts for playing the game also.
I agree and would like to see this change. They can have rewards as part of the battlepass or just have specific weekly challenges that payout XP and currency.
I have stated on a couple of threads that we should be awarded 25-50 credits per rank.
Provided the improvements to progression are sorted, players would be at best Rank 20 (or at worst, Rank 40) before they had 1000 credits to buy a battle pass…
Alternatively, the game could award 5 credits per match win, and 2 credits per loss.
I agree with you, there should be a way to earn credits, maybe after 15 matches win or loose per week get a 100, or as a log in bonus every saturday or moday
No, 5 is far too little, when a legendary costs 2,000 cr earning 5 per win would make the grind even worse then it is now, a more pallet able amount would be like 45 per win, thats still like 48 wins per legendary. You should only be able to earn credits after buying the battlepass to keep the f2p model
To everyone giving the “other battles passes give credits” shtick… other battle passes expire. The system works because you have a deadline. They know not everyone is gonna earn these credits, and the ones that do are the very regular players who are more likely to spend money anyway.
In Halo, buying one pass would give you every pass with no deadline, provided you focused on one pass at a time. I completely understand their decision to not include credits in the pass.
I certainly wouldn’t say no to SOME avenue of earning credits. However, I’m not sure the best route of doing this given how (relatively) cheap the BPs are. They could possibly make the BPs straight purchases as opposed to credit purchases, so you couldn’t just earn them all.
I will grant that Red Dead Online is free and has an earnable premium currency which can be spent on the Battle Pass. I think that’s mainly just because it’s nowhere near as popular as GTA, though.
Yeah, you don’t want an issue where too many credits are being earned through gameplay, and then nobody is buying them in the Store.
Whilst I understand people want to earn a ton simply by playing, this mode is free, so 343 will want income coming from somewhere steadily to afford keep extending the content.
I agree, even if it’s enough for 1 set a season I think it would be a nice addition to Free players and Battlepass subscribers alike.
Thats 48 wins, people dont win every game, maybe 20 or 15, but earning credits shouldnt be so grindy that you still want to spend money, tons of f2p games on the market allow you to earn their premium currency at a p fast rate, but offers so much to encourage spending on them, thiw can work with infinite, people arnt gonna disregard the option to buy cr just because they can earn some, people will still spend mobey and might be more inclined when they have say, 900 cr from grinding and just wanna buy that extra 500 needed
The difference is that the Battle Passes in Infinite never expire. As awesome as it would be, I can’t see 343i letting people earn credits through regular gameplay and/or BP progression when that would invalidate their main business model. Being able to pay 10 bucks for one Battle Pass or no money at all (via earning the Credits through non-BP means) and then be set for the next 10 years, while it would be great for the end-user, wouldn’t look good on their bottom line.
What I can see 343i wanting to do is have a full archive of the all the Battle Passes on the store like they’re any other item that’s being put up for sale, and likely offer up older Battle Passes for discounted prices from time to time. A few years down the road, being able to pick up 5 Battle Passes from prior years for the price of a single one would be neat.
They need to make the battlepass a straight cash purchase, no credits to buy it, then they can add cr to be earned and make it make sense.
They dont need micro-transaction sales to carry this game, the 70$ campaign and people buying a 15$ battlepass every 3 months plus dlcs, to also ask us to spend 30$ on skins is too much when we are already forking over almost 100$ (more in cases of people buying special editions)
Makes the bp a straight cash purchase and add earnable credits, easy fix
I’m sure when camping launches not only will that be available but campaign will have customization for multiplayer to unlock as well
I definitely agree. It’s important to incentivize the non-payers to continue populating the server for the payers to play with. Also, in non-economic terms: it’s just more fun for everyone!
It’s really not as hard as you think, the solution is this:
Replace Challenge XP with Credits, remove the XP from challenges and add performance bonuses for XP instead. That way if you play well you get around 600-800 XP per game and 100-300 credits per challenge depending on the difficulty/rarity OF the challenge itself.
@rvan_XVIV Even at 500xp/match that would only require 200 matches to max the battle pass. That is waaay to fast. It should take longer than a week or two. What are you going to do for the other 5 months until the next pass releases?
Yeah, people don’t win every game, that’s why they play more to do so overtime. 5 per win is good for now as the system. 2.5 per loss would be great so the player gets half rewarded for their efforts.
People who are playing the game will be more incentivised to play for wins so they can get more cr. This would promote teamplay or objectives.
