Maybe I’m getting too old to enjoy Halo but the trailer was just cringe. Are people being paid to write that stuff? You’re telling me a group of Brutes managed to take down the UNSC? Wasn’t the change of guard in Halo 2 a pivotal moment in the Covenant’s downfall? Right? Wasn’t it partially due to the incompetence of the Brutes?
It wouldn’t matter if the story wasn’t taken so seriously. Let’s be honest, Halo is a simple game. We hear a few lines from MC then some basic strategy from UNSC command and Cortana. All the while we kick butt, blow things up, and have a few laughs. Sure there is some story to keep things interesting, but just enough to keep things interesting.
We start the demo with a few minutes of dialogue from MC and some guy. Then a monologue from a Brute of all things! Like its some grandiose theater play with an epic story. It sounds dull, boring, a bunch of stuff I don’t want to cringe at like Halo 4 and 5.
Anyway, the graphics look great. The grappling hook and flying suicide grunts look awesome.
I do agree the speech was somewhat cringe-inducing. However you have to remember Cortana started going off on biological life at the end of Halo 5 which means the Brutes definitely didn’t do it alone.

It’s The Banished. It’s an off-shoot faction of the Covenant basically. The Covenant were fighting them and the UNSC at the same time.
Writer for Halo 4 was on the right track, but whoever his name was in Halo 5, bombshelled several vital story elements, Halo 4 set up. Janus key and Didact resolved off game in comics ( NOT the way to go! ), flesh wounded the representation of Blue Team etc…
Oh and Cortana, however I do think the true Cortana, core fragment is still alive, while the logic plagued, madlady one is the one fragment getting waaay high on her self, police stating the galaxy and used as tool ( Gravemind my guess )
Yeah, in your face monologuing doesn’t feel like Halo to me.
Have you played Halo Wars 2? The banished are a pretty big deal.

I’ll admit, I have only seen fragments of Halo 5’s story. It’s the only Halo game I haven’t played.

The banished are a splinter faction of the covenant and are led by a brute named Atriox. He has the distinction of being a very intelligent and charismatic brute. The guy has outright converted Elite strike groups specifically meant to assassinate him. A smart brute would be a dangerous opponent.

I find it interesting that for someone that is complaining about the story sure doesn’t seem to know what’s been going on with the story for the last couple of years.
That’s like me complaining that I know nothing about Thor in the Avengers movies yet I have seen none of the 3 Thor movies.

When did the Prophet of truth personally get up in Chief’s face and monologue specifically to him? The Gravemind did through flood telepathy and tried to -Yoink- with Chief’s head. The Didact wasn’t well written and Cortana was… annoying in Halo 5.
The Original trilogy didn’t do that, and I thought that’s what they were aiming for.

I didn’t really like Halo 5 and couldn’t finish it at first but I do hope you at least speed through a cinematic compilation because naturally it’s a lot of details that affect Halo Infinite

It’s the same reason why I never played Halo 5. Halo’s story is being taken way too seriously. Makes it look like a goofy Sci-Fi channel series.

Truth decided to stop by the hidden African base to monologue about his divine purpose and also made specific mention of Chief within said monologue.

Still monologued, didn’t he? All directed at Chief.

The precedent has been established that Halo’s antagonists monologue at one point or another to the protagonists. Mr. Brute in Infinite isn’t any different.

To be fair, this looks to be through a transmission of sorts, which was how Truth and The Gravemind communicated their monologues. I think a villain taking a specific interest in Chief is a fun direction to take but it will lead to monologuing due to Chief’s silent and stoic nature. I just don’t see anything wrong with that.
There are many things that won’t be like the original trilogy. That’s what the MCC is great for.

Then why are you complaining about the story or lack of story since you openly said that you haven’t played Halo 5 and it seems that you haven’t played HW2 either.

I think there’s some truth to what you are saying. However, the Brute monologue was set up as the highlight of the demo. Drama took center stage over game play. Drama that is kind of cringe worthy. That sets a precedent for what the full game will be.
In the original trilogy the few monologues obviously served as exposition. This was more like “bwahahaha we have all the chess pieces now, your move!”

I was complaining about the hefty serving of inconsistencies and cringe.
We do not know what has happened. More than 160 days have passed.
You are taking a lot of things for granted. A little patience would do good.

I respectfully disagree sir.
You think a game which has little gremlin people who fly around with blue balls is taking itself too seriously? Where they have a leader called Yap Yap the Destroyer? There’s a time and a place for bathos and light hearted humour. I don’t think they’re taking themselves too seriously.
They’re trying to sound bite epic adventure and conflict in a video game that lacks the medium of a novel to convey certain s themes. Plus it’s a teen audience, they are writing for that audience. They can’t have the main villain introduced as a bit of satire where he’s banging his head off the ceiling or trailing drool out of his slack jaw. There are times where you should take what’s happening seriously. Otherwise there’s no conflict and no stakes.
How is this different to Khal Drogo or Victarian Greyjoy saying something bellicose and threatening? If you have a preference for quiet Littlefinger types who rely on the author telling you that their schemes are smart well, good for you.
In Halo 5 the UNSC fleet and army is destroyed by the Guardians. It’s almost like they want humanity to be the underdog and raise the stakes.
The Covenant schism shouldn’t have made humanity more powerful than the Covenant and in Halo 3 this is never insinuated. It’s good that they’re dropping this notion from “we are the giants” of Halo 4 notoriety.
