So yeah. I love it. Great. And I want to make machinimas with it. Yeah. Whoopty freakin doo. But for a long LONG time I have been searching for something. I have been searching for some Halo 4 multiplayer player models that I could either port into Cinema 4D or Valve’s Source FilmMaker. Now I can totally understand why you wouldn’t and most likely won’t give them to me. BUT, I am asking nicely. For over of year of searching, searching. Searching… NOTHING. So, I came to you face to face. 343 Can you PLEASE, give me fully color/texture and armor customizable multiplayer models from Halo 4 that I could import into Source FilmMaker or into Cinema 4D (Some what like Maya), please?
First of all, CGI animated videos are not machinima.
Secondly, 343i isn’t going to just hand over their content (Bungie didn’t either). If you want to use Halo models in your animation, you’ll need something either created from scratch by fans or obtained by means which shall not be named.
I can get the Chief model for 4. But I know that they wont just hand it over. I just wanted to see them reply… And see why or why not. Now I’ve seen many ported/extracted/ripped halo 4 models and only want the multiplayer one. Just for my own purposes. And I know why Rooster Teeth has them, affiliation and advertising and all but. Ii don’t see how it would hurt for one person. If there is anything I can do to get them tell me. I’ve been literally working my -Yoink- off.
Oh yeah, I was incorporating CGI into my machinimas. So boom, a hybrid. I’ve done it before.
I’m going to be very blunt here only because I actually care. I am also a 3d designer who actually started off teaching myself 3d modeling through Halo.
If you care to, please read all of it as it is sincere advice.
Your request is actually somewhat reasonable, but you have to realize it’s a much larger deal than “343 Can you PLEASE, give me” asked on a forum.
-
You, as an individual I have never heard of and are a stranger, probably just an individual without a team/company, with unknown amounts of financial or legal recourse should you accidentally or intentionally leak these assets to others.
-
CGI is an intensive activity, you have to know what you’re doing to make things look right and animate right so they have 0 guarantee from anything you’ve shown that:
-
You’d even finish a machinima with the assets (You’ve shown no evidence and given no links to any previous work you’ve done)
-
That if you did finish, it would look/animate good and would be something 343 would like to see their work featured in.
-
You are a Recruit-Iron on these forums with a join date of just 2 months ago (Yes, I also don’t have a great forum status but I’m pointing out facts here). The posts in this topic are your only posts in this forum ever, with no registered buddies that I can see which leaves the only historical credibility of your account being your gamertag and play history neither of which speak to you as a person or as an animator, it may be some weak evidence that you like Halo and would portray it in a good light, but that’s it.
-
A search of your username as such “x Fade x 15” on google only has your content (assuming its your content) three times on the first page, the first being your Halo 4 service record and the other two being videos from (what I assume is) your Youtube. I know these are big assumptions going off your username only, but based on that Youtube you aren’t making a strong case for yourself. The five videos present have nothing to do with Halo, Machinima, animation, CGI, Cinema 4D, or Valve’s SourceFilmMaker. What they do show, is someone very young looking filming (I didn’t watch all of the videos).
-
While being young is certainly not a bad thing, it does mean you have to work harder to make a case because (at a glance) it’s very unlikely you have much experience in this area.*
-
*Not to mention the fact that you’re asking for these assets on a public forum rather than directly emailing the company, which is what a professional would do.*Emailing them directly is so much better…It shows you mean business and that you’re determined to do this, it shows you have a contactable personal or business email address for further correspondence, and it’ll most likely get an actual response if you present a good enough case. Right now you’re relying on someone from 343 to stumble across this post and actually care enough to respond.
[Summary]======================================
Seriously, please don’t just skip down here, please read the above too.
Your Case:
-
You give no evidence of your work, links or otherwise.
-
You asked in a public open forum rather than email or call them directly.
-
(I assume you didn’t email them directly because you said “So, I came to you face to face 343 Can you PLEASE, give…” and this forum is most certainly not face to face)*
-
Searching the only identifiable part of your post, your username, shows almost no affiliation to Halo, Machinima, 3d art/design/modeling/animation,etc. despite it being what your entire post and allegedly your work is about.
“Oh yeah, I was incorporating CGI into my machinimas. So boom, a hybrid. I’ve done it before.” Then show us. Pics or it didn’t happen is a very applicable phrase here…
- You’re basically brand new to the forums, which normally wouldn’t matter except that its the medium that you chose to ask this question on. This certainly doesn’t help the “I’m a stranger, can I have things” look to you.
- Make a strong case in a reasonable way (like I said, email is best. A phone-call would be nice to introduce yourself but you can’t present any evidence this way so it’s best for a follow-up interview kind of thing)*
For instance, if I were to ask for this, my email would look something like this (I obscure some stuff because this is hypothetical and I don’t mean to advertise.)
==============================
To Whom It May Concern,
My name is (Real Name), but I am better known in my work as Wild Yojimbo and for the past three years I have been producing videos instructing people on how to modify Halo 1 for the PC, using the appropriate first-party modding kit, as well as teaching them basic 3d design. You can find these videos on the BLANK Youtube channel which currently has 100 subscribers, a reasonable number for a channel currently only having tutorials, as well as the website BLANK, although the latter is currently undergoing a design and function overhaul.
You’ll find, I hope, that my videos have only been increasing in quality and I can say with great confidence that I have personally helped many people create not only their first designs in 3d but their first maps in Halo 1 and their first taste of design in the gaming industry.
It is because of this that I would humbly request the use of some of your raw multiplayer character models from the latest Halo, Halo 4, for use in my tutorials.
Thus far I have only instructed in structural design in levels and not of enemy or character design. While I imagine the latest models are very high poly and most likely have complex shaders that Halo 1 couldn’t handle they would still be used to instruct on how to create high quality character models through the theme of Halo; I would not distribute these models directly nor otherwise make these assets available in any of my work besides these videos. I would only be instructing on how to increase from a low poly model into a highly detailed one.
Naturally there are many fan-made models out there, but many are for ‘personal-use’ only, and I would like to monetize these videos as I put a lot of work into them. I felt it would be silly to ask for special monetization rights to a model made by a 3rd party when they themselves don’t have the rights to it so this is why I come directly to you. That being said, monetization is something we can negotiate on, either way I would love to produce these videos.
I can be reached for further questions at (real email here) or by phone (real phone here). Either way you decide I would love a response.
Sincerely,
(real name) AKA Wild Yojimbo
==============
While I don’t actually want the models you can see I made a reasonable case. Most notably why I want their models and why a fan-made model won’t suffice.
I would go point-by-point but I’m almost to the character limit.
Present a strong case, more formal, in a more mature and private way.
Before they give you anything you need to establish a working relationship with them.
Establish background evidence for what your exact intentions are. “I’m going to make a machinima” is very general especially without prior evidence of the type of machinimas you make.
Finally, in all seriousness, I wish you the best of luck.
-Wild Yojimbo
Thank you for your feedback. I really appreciate it. I hadn’t even stopped to realize I would need any evidence to prove anything. The naïve person I can be, just thought they would just hand it over to anyone who said please. Now I realize how moronic of a thought that was. I will continue to build a good reputation and try to contact them. Also the videos you have watched are most likely not mine, as I have not associated my youtube account with anything but facebook. I make le’s play videos and have made a few tutorials on animating for Cinema 4D and Source FilmMaker. I will be happy to show more evidence and plan on making a well designed video of models I have already acquired to show, I will not represent there franchise in an unlikable manner. I will try to provide more evidence of who I am and my exact intentions, which are simply to make videos associated with Halo 4.
PS: I am not too young, although I am only 15.
