343 MAP DESIGN

I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about Map Design from 343i, and I would have to agree with the community.
Most of the Maps, particularly in Arena, are just generic.
I would honestly have to say there could only be about 3 maps in the entire Arena that are favorable which are Coliseum, Eden, and Fathom.
The others are really bad. Fathom was a good map that was symmetric, without many jumps, which was no problem.
Eden is really nicely designed considering it is asymmetric, and each team still has equal balance on the map.
Coliseum was probably the poster boy map of Halo 5 with the perfect amount of jumps, is symmetric, and clambering doesn’t seem to ruin the map.

I think the main reason all of these maps are worthless is because the mechanics has slightly ruined gameplay on maps.
Clamber ruins map design, Spartan Charge is an annoyance,
Ground pound doesn’t seem like something a Spartan would do (looks something like Superman would do),
and to be honest I never had a good feeling about Thrust. It throws a lot of gameplay off balance.
A lot of player use to be annoyed when sprint came out that when a person was one shot they would sprint away.
Now it’s worse considering people have an additional boost.
Another thing, this is just an opional thing, not from the community, is that I think you should be able to sprint while being shot.
The slight resistance and slowing down when being shot is annoying.

I just look at BTB and I get sad thinking of what could have been.

i thought if you were already in full sprint your speed continues, but if you are not sprinting then get shot at you arent able to gain full speed, seems like a fair trade off really

I understand your pain. BTB will not be remembered in Halo as much as it was a beacon in the previous Halo’s.
This franchise is loosing it’s touch, and will loose it’s name like a 3rd world country or like when Rome and Greece
were at the top of the world then fell like A Hero who became a Villain.

I don’t know, I know 343 gets a lot of junk for their maps, but there are a couple of them that I really like. Plaza is still one of my favorites aesthetically. I wish 343 would have made some BTB maps, but some of the new community maps are awesome (Scavenger is amazing, and I really like Altar). Just my opinion though.

Plaza is good also. I honestly think Clamber has ruined Map Design the most though, and Thrust just throws the entire feel of Halo off balance.
It’s limiting the amount of different things you can do with a map. I never had problems with maps in the past Halo games.
They were all pretty decent. There might have been like 2-3 that were questionable, but Halo 5 almost the entire majority of maps are questionable.

This feels less like a “the map design sucks” thread and more like a “the mechanics suck” thread. I love the mechanics and I’m 50/50 for the maps.

The thing that bothers me most about 343’s Halo 5 maps is that most of them have a very similar base. There’s a central pit or sunken area, while the perimeter is elevated. It makes for very repetitive gameplay, and is too often prone to excessive amounts of ground-pounding. Even worse, some maps are basically clones of each other. Just look at Eden and Empire. They’re almost the same map. This goes double for Truth and Regret, where 343 didn’t even try to hide the similarity. They named them after different Prophets. One Midship remake is enough.

for me almost every halo has had those maps you dread playing on then the few you alwasy were excited to play on. H5 is no different, other then the fact there is not a vote/veto system so you play more of the crap maps more often. this is just the same pattern most FPS games have as well not every map is going to be the greatest

I for one think that the elevation on the maps mixed in with the aim down sights on the pistol just goes to ruin all maps. The problem i think is the new mechanics. I imagine that when Halo 5 maps were being created, they had to cater to the new mechanics making things slightly further away because of sprint then making things slightly higher because of clambering and grounpound then adding so many barriers everywhere because the pistol is so accurate now.
I’ve played some games on custom without the new mechanics but with a higher jump height and shields and I feel like the games were FAR more interesting, in fact, I would acc guess the only reason these new movement mechanics exist is only because of warzone and they cant make it setting exclusive to warzone. Hope they are not in H6

Plaza/Overgrown, Fathom/Riptide, Stasis/(the other one I’m forgetting the name of). They basically have a remake of every arena map, but with a slightly different layout. The best map in ranked arena right now is White Cell and that’s not even made by 343.

Please don’t revive old topics, thanks.
