So 343 said the campaign will feature 15 playable missions, and will be roughly twice the length of halo 4. However, I finished the game in I think slightly less time than Halo 4 without any rushing or skipping parts, and 3 of those 15 missions were “Walk around for less than 5 minutes, and start the next level.”
I’m going to replay the campaign to get a better feel of the length and enjoyment, but this right now is one of my least enjoyed campaigns. The story was good, gameplay, music, etc. were all great. But the short length makes it feel rushed, as if they wanted to get to the plot twists as quickly as possible. With the “Hunt the truth” tagline becoming almost meaningless by the halfway point. And some of the ‘epic scale battles’ being over far too quickly
“Beginning of the greatest hunt in gaming history” My -Yoink-.
6/10 (Above average), length, pacing and direction brought it down. Gameplay, characters, music, some level design, and story keeps it from being any lower.
What do you guys think? After all this is just my opinion.
Legendary will push the time it takes to finish a level way back, Also the length of time for each level could of reflected hunting for intel, skulls or just stopping to smell the roses and look around at the next gen graphics.
It took me almost 5 hours or so to finish the first three missions on Legendary, but they (343) were deceptive about the amount of missions by including those silly walk around missions.
I think what’s more problematic is how they misled everyone on what the story was actually about. It seems like such a strange choice to me, having played through the whole campaign now. It did feel short but I’m much less bothered by that than by the cliffhanger ending and how so much emotional tension between characters was unexplored.
Im not a fan of the walk-around parts and passing them off as missions, but getting to see more than just shooting is a benefit, seeing elite rituals was fantastic
Well I just got all the Intel, every skull (except 2), and completed the campaign on normal within 10 hours, if I don’t count the constant time of getting food and using the john ahaha.
This is what i’ve been thinking. It seems like every halo is getting a shorter story, an approx 6 hour single player for $60 should not be acceptable, the multiplayer doesn’t matter, the fact remains that we are getting less for the price we pay over the years. If approached again, possibly accusing them of lying about the 8-12 hour length on normal, they might respond with something like that includes getting all the intel and skulls. What annoys me even more is someone said it’ll be double the length of halo 4… Lol, even h4 was longer.
I’m at mission 8 and have been playing on Legendary. Took me about 6 hours and I still have a while to go. I don’t think they lied about the length given that different people will progress through the game at different rates. To their testers, maybe it did last as long as Halo 4. Looks like that will be the case for me.
When they do these counts, I want to know, what was the worst campaign testers (someone who doesn’t even play Halo that much) time and what was the best campaign players (the person who lives, eats, and breathes Halo) time.
Show me that range.
That’s the REAL range.
Good god, these forums are a cesspool today. People are literally finding every, single, little thing they can complain about! I sure hope this is not the norm for releases because it has been like this for some time now. I wish people would just appreciate.
I’m on 9 I believe and played for 4-5 hours last night. I did do some searching around, but not much and I only died maybe 5 times. I hope the last 6 missions or so have some crazy stuff goin on. I didn’t follow most of the marketing stuff (i.e. hunt the truth), but I am a little disappointed how the story doesn’t really reflect all that minus the locke chasing chief part. I don’t think the story is bad but I felt like they were really setting up this story that would transcend most other everyday shooters that are around nowadays.
I finished the first 7 missions on Heroic last night in about 6 hours. I explored each level and found maybe 2/3 of the intel and no skulls, so far. It’s pretty meaty if you don’t just run from point A to point B.

I think that’s the problem they have fallen into sequelitis - sure, I get some stories are big enough to go over multiple titles, but on the other hand that shouldn’t be the goal - each should be able to stand on their own. It’s something over ambitious developers get stuck into - where they forget about completing the individual games over trying to sell a trilogy or whatever.

This is the norm for new releases
And honestly, you’ll get a lot of negativity around here - and gaming forums in general - nearly constantly over a wide variety of issues and gameplay/story points and so on. Just gotta learn to remain respectful towards others that disagree with your opinions, and not to enter certain threads that you think you might loose your cool in *(For me, it tends to be the “X/Y Feature is horrible”, “Halo is dead”, etc styled threads).*Oh and if you see a thread talking about the lighting on Eden, tread with caution. If you were here - lurking or otherwise - during and after H5’s beta, you’ll know what I’m talking about ><
I felt the campaign was pretty lengthy, could have been a little longer to get a little more story in there. However, I’m not a fan of the 3 “walk around” missions. Those really shouldn’t have counted towards the overall mission count. They should’ve had them as cutscenes.
I love halo, the universe, the lore… All of it. That’s why I was disappointed by the story by the length and lack of meat in this campaign. There was obsolutely none of it was promised in the marketing campaign master chief was barely portrayed as a traitor (all he did was disobey an order). Then the confrontation between Locke and chief was underplayed, and after the initial confrontation it all became a moot point. Osiris was knew that it wasn’t Chiefs doing he was just following chief and chief was hunting cortana
a total far cry from what was led to believe. They easily could have added length to the story by expanding on chief actually being perceived traitor by making more chase missions where chief is actually on other planets one guardians are being activated giving the illusion he’s behind all of it. And adding more confrontation between chief nd locke. They definitely could’ve expanded the story and given fans what they wanted. Plus the between the 15 missions it felt like 4 involved playing as chief.
It wasn’t bad and I love the game as I do all halos, but this one left much to the imagination and left out a lot of what was promised. Hunt the truth audio files seem utterly unnecessary and not important to the story. I’m not mad at 343 I’m just really disappointed .
I’m not sure how long it would take to finish the game on other difficulties, but I finished my first run on legendary difficulty and it took me around 18 hours. I’m quiet satisfied with the time it took me to finish the game. I would have been disappointed if it was anywhere under 10 hours. If you wish for the game to really last, you should play on legendary also. A fair warning though, some parts become a little too ridiculous and may require patience.
