343, Let Social playlists use rank from Arena list

OK, I never play social playlists because there is simply no ranking going on! So some matches I end up playing against extremely easy players and some matches it is beyond brutal how I get slaughtered. And that is just so weird, because it would be super easy to implement!

Yesterday I wanted to give it another shot. I played two matches of H2 BR slayer. Mostly because I love playing slayer and the H2 BR is one of my favorite weapons in the game.

Well two matches of H2 BR slayer… The first one I got added to a game where my team is already losing 20-6 or something like that. I got absolutely slaughtered and so did the rest of my team. The second match went better for me, but we still lost.

Today I check out the people I played against: a few champion and onyx guys and some diamonds… In normal slayer I usually end up between high gold and low platinum. During last holiday season I for some reason ended up at diamond 3. I don’t know why. Maybe because there were a lot of christmas noobs?

Anyway, my current rank in slayer is platinum 1. Yet I get matched against champions, onyx and diamond players. And for some reason a guy with a KD of 0.093 (4 kills and 43 deaths in the 3 matches he played Halo 5).

WHY? Why can’t H2 BR slayer check the ranks of players in normal slayer and use that? Why match people against complete randoms! I wouldn’t be surprised if a team of champions would get matched against a team of silver players.

Social playlists should be super laid back. Yet they are harder that ranked playlists because social playlists don’t take rank into account. Ugh…

Idea for Halo 6: Let social playlists also give players ranks. And don’t let ranks reset after seasons. A platinum shotty-sniper player in season 1 of Halo 6 will not suddenly be champion or bronze in shotty-snipers in season 2. So why reset the rank? I’m also in favor of not resetting in ranks in Arena playlists for that very same reason. All it does is help smurfs.

I mean it wouldn’t really be social playlist if it was ranked

It doesn’t really have to show the rank if that’s violating people’s rights. But matchmaking should take A rank into account when matching people against each other. And currently that is not happening.

It also isn’t very social if matches end 4-50.

I think what ur sayin is (Me Reading between the lines here) is it would be nice if 343 would narrow the skill gap in social play list …
i would be fine if they would do quick play slayer at least…

Social playlists do take hidden ranks into account (MMR). It’s just not as strict with them as ranked, so that matches can be found faster and more easily.

So you are saying the only thing to make a playlist Social is the hide the ranks. Part of what separates Social from Ranked is the loosened use of the MMR. You have balanced games in Ranked and not so balancedon’t in Social. I don’t see the problem here. Just play ranked if you don’t want to deal with JIP and larger gaps in MMR.

I get what you’re saying and I respect your viewpoint.

However, I do not agree with you. What I miss from the “good old gaming days” is that there was no “skill based matchmaking” in anything except Ranked. And before Ranked there was no SBMM at all.

Sometimes you got rekt, sometimes it was you who rekt kids.

That’s the way I prefer it and I’m only a Platinum player in Halo.

I think if this happened it would defeats the purpose of “social” playlisting. It’s hard enough to find btb games as it is.

I see what you mean man. I’ve been there, I hate going into social to have good matches and relax/enjoy my time but end up getting sweated on.
At the same time, I don’t think that there would be enough people playing to fill up lobbies with people of the same ranks.

It used to be in infection. I used to have to wait 15+ minutes to find a game then play with sweats either spawn trapping me or getting 3 naires on me. I don’t know about other playlists because i mostly play infection but thats where it was most noticeable especially if you see 5 service tags that says 279N. And to OP I would love to see a rank implemented in some social playlists but not all
Id like to see infection have a ranked playlist or grifball but action sack and super fiesta need to stay social

It’s always been like that.

I hear ya man. But social playlist do take rank into account, just not CSR. MMR (Match Making Rank) is used in social playlists. MMR is a “hidden rank” that changes based on your individual performance (from what I can tell at least). For Example, if you play five games with an average KDA of .75 then you will more likely match with other players of a similar KDA for that day/session/etc. Social playlists always have the risk of being heavily one-sided, but that’s what makes them social rather than competitive. If they took CSR into account when matching you with players then it would just be another ranked playlist.

That being said, it can be frustrating to get matched with a team of highly skilled players who are communicating and well coordinated, or just straight up awesome at the game as individuals. So I agree with you there, but I dont think it would be a good idea to throw CSR into social playlists.

As a side note: I believe a players rank for each new season does take into account their rank from the previous season. For Example last season I ranked Silver 6 in Swat with a KDA of less than 1.0 after my placement matches, where as this season my average Swat KDA was 6.8 after the placement matches and I ranked into Gold 2. If the placement matches ranked players based on the average KDA of only the ten placement matches then I should have been placed much higher. I think 343 organized the ranking system in this way to prevent players who perhaps had a few awesome matches (with 20.0 KDA for example) that brought their average KDA up from being ranked with players of a higher caliber. No one wants to be ranked with people who absolutely wreck them every match. This may not be the case, but like I said this is my supposition based on personal experience, nothing more.

Please no

The Halo 5 population isn’t as big as it was at launch, so the game blends ranks in order to get faster games.

Theres a hidden system, which I dont like because if you get too good you wont be able to have a casual game

If ranked and social had the exact same playlists I would stick with ranked. But social has all kinds of playlists that ranked doesn’t have.

Well I have no problem finding matches in ranked and that takes my skill level into account. So I don’t know why the same rules can’t get applied to social. I don’t have to see the ranks, but as gold/platinum player I’m not really fond of playing matches against either people with a KD of 0.09 or champions.

I’d say just play ranked at that point.

I remember when Waypointers and other players were -Yoinking- about MMR, repeating that one talking point of “Let social be social”.

Oh, how it’s come back to bite them…
