It’s good Elden Ring had to step in and shoe 343 what a game at full price and zero monetization can accomplish when they deliver.
343 killing Xbox as a brand is a far stretch of the imagination, but their handling of Halo thus far definitely hasn’t been keeping it in good health. That much I agree with.
Sorry, it was just a train of frustration that ended up being a whole lot longer than I expected.
Fair points. For me, Xbox exists because of HALO. With forced crossplay and skewed advantage towards PC players - the value of an Xbox console is greatly diminished.
Thank you. My post was a lot longer than I meant. Just typed a stream of thought without editing it.
I am right there with you!
Nice try. Next time come up with your own thoughts rather than pathetically ripping off a movie.
7 on XBconnect? Yikes, I hope you’re not scarred. There were zero filters on that beast.
MCC IMO is the greatest video game deal I have come across. Unfortunately I only had the opportunity to play it when it first came out and then last year so I missed out on all the fun. The only thing I was disappointed with was achievements/unlocks from the original games didn’t carry over, but I get why. I bought the game digital and two hard copies because it was that great to me.
Well played. I’m got quite the chuckle out of that.
Based on recent actions, I highly doubt the Xbox team is even the least bit concerned with Halo. They’re far more interested in buying up everything else.
it’s mostly not like that though for digital games. 97% of my games run entirely offline on xbox until Halo Infinite. Disc games our worse in fact because you may as well go digital. Unfortunately this will continue no matter what because people are mostly ignorant to it
Digital only is when I quit gaming.
I’ve been digital only since 2012. It has its benefits. Between 2007 and 2010 I had to buy 3 H3 discs. However not letting players play offline when they have the game stored on the hard drive it dispicable.
The campaign was great. Multiplayer is great when it works. That’s the problem though under the hood Halo Infinite is one of the poorest running games ever made.
1.) Desyncing issues.
2.) lag out the wazoo issues.
3.) Disconnections/kicking out of games all the time.
You would think 19 weeks…133 days out post launch these issues would have been fixed but they have not been. It just goes to show you how poor the programming team has been at 343, but I don’t blame them I blame the brass running the show.
It has been revealed on reddit that 343 is the worst managed programming game company in the world for it’s size. They have very few employees and rotate in and out programmers on 18 month contracts. You cannot run a business like that let alone make a product work well.
This is what happened with Windows Vista back in 2006. MIcrosoft outsourced the entire OS to India and around the world, and when the code came back to Washington it was an absolute mess. In house tried to fix it the best they could but Vista just never had a chance. That’s why Windows 7 came out which essentially was Vista but with all the fixes.
Bottom line, nothing could kill Halo but Halo aka 343 and they did it. No other video game in history has dropped 96% of their player base faster than 343 has, and it is because the game runs awful under the hood.
Some will say it is content but when you can’t even play the game how do you enjoy it?
Xbox isn’t dying.
But Halo did back in 2012 sadly.
Halo and I died in 2010 we’ve both been walking corpses since. Just can’t stop playing this dead game - I think I have a problem!
I find it so jarring when in the bungie era it was the epitome of the “we make the kind of games we wanna play” mentality. Whereas with 343i more and more now you have their devs coming out on Twitter, glassdoor and even Sketch’s posts being like:
“Yeah this bit of the game sucks. We knew this but it got made anyway. We’ll hopefully address it at some point but have no roadmap”
Basically whoever is making the top design decisions at 343i are no longer prioritising making all aspects of the game fun and that’s why it is dying. HI has a couple aspects that shine through, but when it is surrounded by a lack of features, content, and some seriously mind boggling design decisions, the whole thing is let down and just seems like a mess of a game.
Xbox is definitely not dying and is stronger than ever.
Sadly Halo is dying and it is 100% on the shoulders of 343. I wouldn’t say it died in 2012 because Halo 4 sold over 7 million copies. It was the beginning of the road we are on though.
Even Halo 5 didn’t kill the franchise, but at this point I could argue that Halo Infinite is the mortal wound that will kill the franchise.
The campaign was great. I loved it. My kids played through it and loved it. I don’t know anybody that has played the campaign that did not really enjoy it.
The problem is the multiplayer which is the bread and butter of the franchise. Under the hood Infinite is one of the worst built and running games of all-time at launch.
To have the desynging, lag, and disconnection issues that this game suffers is absolutely unacceptable. There is definitely not enough content but that will come. I’m concerned about the fact you just can’t play the game!
Microsoft is going to have to soft-relaunch the game in the fall, and if they don’t come out with huge amounts of content and a game running perfectly it is lights out for the franchise.
…and the top brass of 343 should all be replaced.
Judging by some of the anonymous employee reviews that cane out today, it looks like its an absolute cesspool in management rn. Apparently upper management have zero clue as to how game development works and are only there to drive the corporate aspects of the company.
