343 "Its Free"

We’ve all seen it on these forums, one person posts about the lack of content and then another retorts “Shut up, the dlc is free”
Its. Free
Amazing how two little words can make all the bad things go away for some people, but not for me.
Let me pose a situation for you “Its free” people.
Say you buy a burger, a nice big burger, or so it seems. Because when you take a bite you realize there’s no meat! Outraged you return to the counter demanding an explanation! The pretty girl at the counter explains to you that the meat hasn’t quite finished cooking yet and you’ll have to wait, but the store does offer free pickles! She then proceeds to dump a large handful of the pickles onto your tray. When you protest she merely looks at you and says “Whats the problem? its free.”

Seeing the problem yet?

Except Halo 5 has the meat. It’s just missing the ketchup and mustard. Sure it would have been better for the game to release with everything, but 343 doesn’t choose when the game releases. Microsoft does and Microsoft wanted the game to come out last Fall.

How can you see all of the threads hating on the free content and say that people are being marginalized for thinking that? Every thread that defends the content is swiftly attacked because many people seem to not understand what the word “free” means.

Why do all of these threads revolve around food!

its not that the community doesn’t understand ‘free’, it’s that 343 doesn’t understand ‘content’

Because it’s not polite to talk about -Yoink!- on the forums.

I would say that is partly true, but that their main issue is that they keep all of the content in the dark. It would be cool knowing what we were getting for the next BIG update instead of just kind of blindly hoping. The content may be good in the future, but we will have no idea until it actually drops.

Its missing the ketchup, mustard, cheese and the buns, all we have is a lettuce bun and meat with nothing else, even with the time constraint, Halo 2 still managed to come out with a full assortment of maps and gametypes that were all original and not a remix of a previous map, remakes are a different story, but the idea is still the same, there just fishing for excuses to push out a incomplete game.

Hell, even the campaign feels incomplete compared to how the ads portrayed the whole entire thing as Locke vs Chief, but what we got was a misunderstanding between two Spartans before they bro hugged it out before Cortana suddenly reappeared to start -Yoink- for NO REASON

343 chooses what their priorities are. And their priorities were all -Yoinked!- up.

It also shouldn’t matter to anyone when the game came out or how long they had to make it. The fact is it’s been released, so all the excuses that they may have are of no concern to us. If they didn’t want to have to live up to the expectations set by the franchise, they shouldn’t have applied for the job.

Certain Affinity should have taken up the job honestly because they pump out honest original maps or remakes instead of constant remixings of -Yoink- maps

While hanging out with some friends you order a Double Patty Bacon Cheeseburger.

They bring you out a regular single-patty Cheeseburger with everything on it, as well as a coupon for a free Bacon Cheeseburger in the bag, then promptly leave. They don’t tell you why, but you can speculate from some of the chatter in the background that they’ve ran out of supplies for the time being.

Either you’re an optimist who is fine with this arrangement (I mean it’s still a pretty filling burger in its own right and you’re starving, right?), or you’re an justifiably irate customer. Either way, it is what it is.

You go back to your table and tell your friends about the situation. A friend of a friend, who is a complete simpleton, tells you to just be happy that you’re getting a “free” Bacon Cheeseburger. Everyone just gives him a blank look, then is just all “anyyywaaays…”

What’s wrong with remixes? Most of them are nothing like the original map.

So 343 should do what bungie does and make us pay $20 for these updates?
Gift horses

Now that’s correct. Lol, there’s a whole thread about Elites guess what we got instead. Spartans only with ugly -Yoink- armors. We wanted previous items to return what did they do? They built their stuff thinking we only wanted that only but didn’t add on to what they were planning so we got what 343 wanted. I mean its there game fine but if they are trying to ask the community what they want how could possibly ignore us. Not sure what went through their minds when making emblems because that’s what this game is, restricted as hell for no reason. We have Warzone but won’t put any items or unique stuff from Warzone into forge/customs because I mean we obviously play more Warzone than customs.

No ones talking about Bungie. We’re talking about 343.

I love when people go into these hate threads with a stupid statement. Its really funny.

Here’s the usual life cycle for paid DLC maps:

  • You buy the map pack. - The devs create a special DLC-Only playlist for everyone else who bought it to play in. - Everyone has fun for a while, then gets bored with the maps and goes back to playing the other playlists. - Eventually the DLC-Only playlist disappears and the only way you’ll be able to play those DLC maps is either in private/custom games or through some miracle that everyone in your matchmade game has the DLC.343i may not be doing the best job at providing frequent free DLC, but the basic model is pro-consumer and overall better for population retention.

Free DLC is an amazing idea.

…What they’re giving us isn’t free DLC.

You’ve completely missed the entire point of this post. I’ll put it in language you can understand. 343 is giving us free helmets and req’s and remixes that NO ONE WANTS! When what we should really be getting is what should have been there in the first place. Gametypes, a proper file browser aka in my example the meat of the burger.

I’d say a better analogy is selling burgers without buns, but you get two buns free with a burger.

And then droves of people flock to the restaurant to get a good “deal.” Heaven forbid anyone tells them that they’re getting the same amount of food as they normally would for their money. Meanwhile, other restaurants are selling full burgers with a free or discounted small fry.
