343 isn't getting the respect it deserves

343 had my respect in the early days. There were things I didn’t like but I was willing to give them a chance. That chance left me feeling empty, but left a significant dent in my wallet.

Would you respect a kid on the street who blatantly lies to you and runs hoops around subjects? I know I wouldn’t, so why would you?

343 made Halo 4, true. For that they deserve credit. But that’s all they deserve. Credit where credit is due, but respect for making a lie based game and happily taking our money for it? Does it really look as if they have respect for us?

> making a lie based game and happily taking our money for it?

I remember “trust us” was essentially the entire marketing line for pre-release Halo 4. lol

Edit:
iPhones were not made for people with thumbs my size goddam.

> > > After this: http://i.imgur.com/h2MTcl9.png I will never respect them for anything. They are pure filth as a company to offend thousands and thousands of people with that image.
> >
> > At least the guy who made that apologized for it.
>
> But why would you post something like that at a damn convention at all? Regardless of who made it, even if it wasn’t their intention to offend. It’s about the worst thing you can make to represent Halo 4 and after GDC, I’m currently holding my rage in to not go and and make and endless rant like I used to.

Yanno, as others have said; Respect is earned. Personally I can understand the rage and desire to go and have a good rant. Oddly enough, 343i has earned my respect, in regards to the graphic, after the apology that was given for it. I am a live and let live kinda guy. Once something like the above is resolved I don’t see the point in rehashing it as it breaks open old wounds, re-angers and brings about bitterness and resentment.

What I’d like to mention, is communication is a two way street. If anything, from this situation I’d like to see come from it is this; the forging of much better ties between 343i and the community. If, as you say 343i, we are “partners” in the creation and continuation of the Halo Universe then transparent, honest and polite conversation between the community and yourselves is paramount. In any endeavour humankind undertakes the cornerstone of success is communication.

> Agreed. And it’s certainly true that many of the complaints people have are certainly valid ones, it’s just that the majority of them aren’t made in any remotely respectful or constructive way. Also, it’s just the way of things that more people will always come on a forum to complain about stuff vs talk about what they like (typically because those people are actually playing and enjoying the game! lol).

I think part of it is that they never really see 343i reply to anything, I mean like, if they reply to something it’s risky for them because it might seem like a commitment but there is nothing wrong with being a little more social.

But I do agree, people tend to not show any respect, even I have been a little aggressive in my wording… But a lot of that stemmed from feeling like they made a cage for their community, something to occasionally go and poke us to see how we are doing but largely ignore us. I know that’s not the case but it’s easy to get that impression.

I’m curious though, what does “dormant monitor” mean?

Dormant Monitor is used to denote a monitor that is not as active as they used to be on the site.

Yeah, I think 343i need to spend some more time here. Just looking at the number of posts of the admins, most of them haven’t even hit 100. Frankie, essentially the face of the studio, hasn’t even cracked 50. They are the Overlords from Childhood’s End, they sit on their alien ships unwilling to allow us to see them. Only difference is that the Overlords did it for our benefit, I know not what 343i’s excuse is.

Viper, we need to play soon. I got off for the night, but I should be on tomorrow. I should be asleep right now, but the internet sucked me in.

Definitely. I’m playing halo more lately so that shouldn’t be a problem during the nights.

Deception - I know, I have been thinking of a few ways to reach them on this topic, I will eventually post it in the general discussion forum in a week or so.

You are welcome to try dude. Oh and a bit off-topic, I’m working on a contribution to your Suggestion Thread. Hope you got room for story suggestions,

Lol, glad to hear it, if I run out of room I can pull a few strings with the mods and maybe get some more room for you, I really appreciate it as well!

Sounds good. My class schedule allows me to be a night owl.

> It kind of makes me sad to see all of these negative posts on the forums about how Halo 4 is all messed up. Well I think that Halo 4 is a great game, and also 343 worked their -Yoinks!- off to make it enjoyable. And even if the multiplayer needs some balancing, it’s still fine. Finally, I see people complaining about how 343 never listens to the Halo fans, but they’re doing the best they can, for example, we said that the forge environments were too small, so 343 took the time to build a huge forge world just for us, and it seemed like not very many people even cared. This is 343’s first game and we should make them feel better about it.

Do me a favor, get in a plane, come to Australia, try to play Halo 4 without the option to prefer good connection that 343 removed. When you see enemies teleporting, grenades not appearing when thrown, bullets going through walls and guns that take 3 seconds to pick up … then, only then can you tell me that 343 listens to the fans, then you can tell me they did the best they can.

Maybe if they show us some respect first, we’ll return it.

Things get ugly because 343 lets them get ugly.

If people from 343 actually came down into the trenches and talked with us, we’d see a lot more constructive criticism. Why do people get angry? Because they don’t feel like they’re being heard. Because it seems like constructive criticism gets completely, totally ignored.

The only things 343 have responded to in any real manner is after the community gets absolutely outraged about it. So what do people do when they want their issue responded to? They get outraged.

343 has re-enforced bad behavior and not responded to good behavior. People can be more civil, but when civility is met with silence, what choice do people have?

I respected them for the TUs and Forge Island. They were trying to at least give us back some of the things we wanted (Even if they had some kind of catch to them), but after seeing the GDC panel where they explained their direction of the multiplayer, that respect disappeared. Sorry.

I’ll touch the game again for the achievements from Castle, and maybe to dabble with Forge, but that’s it. Not until they redeem themselves.

Try playing split screen online, how about a free fix for that?

> > here, here. I totally agree. we can complain all day but in the end 343 did an absolutely stunning job with Halo. ESPECIALLY since this is there first game ever. cut them some slack people. state the issues with the game, and they probably will be (and actively have been) addressed.
>
> They don’t get a free pass because it’s “their first game”. See, they inherited a series, and not any series, a triple A game series. As such they had a job and duty to keep it a triple A series, which they didn’t. Sure, it sold millions of copies, but it’s still less than Halo 3 (And it probably wont even make it to that number).
>
> See, as I said in my previous post, had this been their first game that didn’t say HALO on the box, then sure, congrats and everything’s in order. But it was supposed to BE Halo, and it wasn’t, that’s the problem. We HAVE stated the issues, over and over and they have yet to implement most of them. They have the time and the manpower, yet are too egocentric to actually admit that they messed up. All these complaints and criticisms, they deserve it.

Actually I think it’s even more impressive because of the “Halo” heritage. That’s an absolute mountain of expectation riding with it. I can’t even imagine the internal pressure going on during development.

One of the things I’ve always found kinda odd about this forum is that 343i doesn’t seem to post here all that much. It makes me very curious as to why have a forum that is meant for 2 way feedback when it doesn’t get used as intended or as much as it should be?

Tbh, I would have literally been overjoyed to have forums and the like when I was managing companies. The reason behind that goes with this; I drove home two things to all my management teams and employees. 1.) Be proactive. Catch raging infernos when they are at just the lit match stage. And 2.) Communicate. Take the time to talk to our customers daily. The goodwill you gain just from talking to someone for 5 minutes cannot be overstated. One of the things people really want is to feel like they matter and are important.

I also explained this as personalizing the impersonal. Sure, we could just say “thank you, have a great day!” after each transaction, but that is impersonal. What we want is to send a clear message that they are not just a transaction, but people that are welcome and valued as individuals who’s choice to purchase our products is valued by us as well.
