343 isn't getting the respect it deserves

Here’s to 343i, for taking the flame that is Halo, and taking it on a journey beyond anywhere that Bungie could have ever taken it.

Halo 4 IS a great game, and halo WILL continue to progress in a way which is intuitive and enjoyable.

Thank you 343i.

Josh Holmes, is that you?

They didn’t work their yoinks off. Do you have any idea how little effort is required to notice multiple misnamed object in the forge?

Yet they still managed to release a DLC map pack 1 month after launching a game with less maps than the last one.

They deserve no respect until this game is drastically improved.

When they have a visible in-game ranking system, get rid of randomness like ordinances and AA’s, and make an actual Halo game they will finally earn their respect.

> Well you should care, because it isn’t just for forgers. You know those forge maps you play in Throwdown, Grifball, community playlists, & etc. those were (obviously) made in Forge. Offering this for free affects all players who don’t just play the 2 main Infinity playlists. It also came with some really nice forge pieces and a green screen. I don’t forge at all, but it’s ungrateful to just brush off how helpful Forge Island is going to be. Just today they added a Forge Island map to the Grifball playlist and I’m sure many more maps will be coming along the way. You see, with forgers having a nice looking flat ground to forge on maps will come out looking nice, playing nicer, and giving an all around better experience if you play in playlists with forge maps in them.

There are plenty of great maps NOW… And it makes no difference how great they are when its difficult to find a match without game breaking lag

And believe me, I perservere with matches even when they DO lag because I hate to quit. But its not fun.

So no - I don’t have to care about a new forge map, even a free one. Its not ungrateful. It just is what it is.

They care more about pleasing people who will play the game for 2 weeks-2 months than the dedicated fans that love, and care about Halo. They took the game that I loved and turned it into an unbalanced, random, noob-friendly, campy, lacking in variety game with less features than the previous installment. Thanks to them, I don’t get to talk to my friends about a sick snipe I got the other day anymore, because I am the only person who still plays Halo in my area. Many quit with Reach, but Halo 4 sweeped the rest away. The decisions that they made were ridiculous. When I was 12 years old playing Halo, I could’ve easily seen the problems in things like the boltshot, or sprint, or anything else. If they can get their act together in Halo 5, then I will start to think more highly of them.

343 Didnt build forge islands

> > It kind of makes me sad to see all of these negative posts on the forums about how Halo 4 is all messed up. Well I think that Halo 4 is a great game, and also 343 worked their -Yoinks!- off to make it enjoyable. And even if the multiplayer needs some balancing, it’s still fine. Finally, I see people complaining about how 343 never listens to the Halo fans, but they’re doing the best they can, for example, we said that the forge environments were too small, so 343 took the time to build a huge forge world just for us, and it seemed like not very many people even cared. This is 343’s first game and we should make them feel better about it.

When a person or company only does what is expected and doesn’t go above and beyond, that’s just them doing their job. Forgeworld in Reach was highly praised and loved because it was above and beyond what had ever happened in Halo. When 343i severely downgraded Forge in H4, they not only failed to do the expected, they failed the benchmark. Now, with Forge Island, it’s much better than the original Forge canvasses but still not as good as ForgeWorld. Therefore, they still failed to hit the benchmark and simply do what is expected.

This is largely a matter of opinion. While I don’t think the forge environments are necessarily perfect they excel in doing what Forge World could not and that was giving us variety. I had seen people get so mad at all the forge world maps because they were bored of the old green-gray landscape and it was difficult for the forgers to make maps that blended very well with its environment. With the new forge in Halo 4 the maps feel more natural and the main place where I could wish for improvement was the release of precision forging (Because some of the coordinate settings aren’t exactly precise enough to make everything match up perfectly). We had new forge pallets to work with and could vary new creations occasionally with different styles by forging on different maps. The only place I could see where the new forge maps fell short where Forge World did not was the sheer size and freedom of building on an immense scale forge map. Luckily 343 has solved this with the new release of Forge Island.

I love Halo 4. I’m really glad they made Flood Combat Forms when infected in Infection a reality. I’m having loads of fun with it, and more and more fun with it with 343i doing more great stuff for it (thanks for Forge Island; can’t wait for Multi Team). There are some issues of course (DMR, Custom options, etc…), but they’re mostly minor. I have fun nearly every night in Customs with friends, but the customization could be bigger. The DMR is mainly the only thing I really hate about this game, but I can wait for its nerf (but if it doesn’t happen, I don’t think I can stand the game for 3 years).

They definitely have my respect. I’m very glad they took over the Halo universe. And I can’t wait to see what they bring next.

Respect is earned, not given. And after that GDC Panel, 343i lost a lot of it.

Forgeworld wasn’t praised either.

I used to respect 343i in the early days, I was actually one of the people giving them the benefit of the doubt. I liked Legends, I liked Evolutions, I liked the Waypoint app, I liked the motion comics…but then they hired Karen Traviss and her books happened, they re-released the original three novels with errors multiple times, etc. Greg Bear’s books restored some hope, but then Halo 4 happened. After GDC, it is going to take A LOT to fix what they did.

After GDC people especially veterans have a right to be concerned. Some negativity is warranted.

Respect? What respect? Did you not see the GDC? BELIE343 is long gone, they took a great series and destroyed it.

OP, they deserve all the negativity and criticism they’re getting, if you started Halo with Reach or 4 then (no offense) you don’t have much input in the matter. Halo 4 would be a decent game if it didn’t say Halo on the box. I find it funny how people are eternally grateful that they added a forge map and backend weapon tunning, claiming this is some sort of new progress. We HAD these features before and they removed them. It isn’t progress per se, it’s their attempt at redemption.

If you have a halo game that’s got tops 40k people playing it then it isn’t a good Halo game. End of story really, 343 let us down and this excuse of a halo game won’t get fixed to meet our expectations as an old and still standing Halo community. It’s basically boiled down to their last chance being Halo 5, people will do their research before buying a new Halo after this.

… Facepalm

here, here. I totally agree. we can complain all day but in the end 343 did an absolutely stunning job with Halo. ESPECIALLY since this is there first game ever. cut them some slack people. state the issues with the game, and they probably will be (and actively have been) addressed.

eh that is a bit too much recognition. they can still improve, and I think bungie had better games. not to say this game isn’t ALMOST as good, just some things keep it from true greatness.

But there are people who do not believe they did a stunning job.

They don’t get a free pass because it’s “their first game”. See, they inherited a series, and not any series, a triple A game series. As such they had a job and duty to keep it a triple A series, which they didn’t. Sure, it sold millions of copies, but it’s still less than Halo 3 (And it probably wont even make it to that number).

See, as I said in my previous post, had this been their first game that didn’t say HALO on the box, then sure, congrats and everything’s in order. But it was supposed to BE Halo, and it wasn’t, that’s the problem. We HAVE stated the issues, over and over and they have yet to implement most of them. They have the time and the manpower, yet are too egocentric to actually admit that they messed up. All these complaints and criticisms, they deserve it.

It’s about the worst thing you can make to represent Halo 4 and after GDC, I’m currently holding my rage in to not go and and make and endless rant like I used to.

Yes that was his intent. Still, couple that with them saying “no one wants a learning curve” or something along with those lines and their message becomes loud and clear:

We will listen to the part of the community who don’t know what forums are.

We do not care for the opinions of veterans.

We rarely play our own game.

It says a lot more than I th
