It kind of makes me sad to see all of these negative posts on the forums about how Halo 4 is all messed up. Well I think that Halo 4 is a great game, and also 343 worked their -Yoinks!- off to make it enjoyable. And even if the multiplayer needs some balancing, it’s still fine. Finally, I see people complaining about how 343 never listens to the Halo fans, but they’re doing the best they can, for example, we said that the forge environments were too small, so 343 took the time to build a huge forge world just for us, and it seemed like not very many people even cared. This is 343’s first game and we should make them feel better about it.
Agreed. And it’s certainly true that many of the complaints people have are certainly valid ones, it’s just that the majority of them aren’t made in any remotely respectful or constructive way. Also, it’s just the way of things that more people will always come on a forum to complain about stuff vs talk about what they like (typically because those people are actually playing and enjoying the game! lol).
It’s important to do as you just did and make your voice heard as well, no matter how drowned-out it may seem. As a fellow appreciative fan, I applaud that.
Grim
We have no obligation to “make them feel better about it”. They did a good job, but there are several things that are still yet to be fixed, and the fact that they’re not listening to their fans as much as they could is what is creating the negative feelings. Once they start fulling embracing their community, then the majority of the negative feedback will start.
Its not easy to please all the people, all of the time.
Forge island for free is cool… If you care about forging. Giving something for free to someone who doesn’t want it doesn’t make it better.
I don’t care about it because I’m not a big fan of forging. But those who are likely DO care.
I’d rather see them apply a fix to the networking system that picks a foreign host when I’m in a party with local friends, and other things that will benefit the gameplay experience.
I agree that being outright nasty to 343 is not the answer to getting things changed, though.

When a person or company goes above and beyond what is expected, that’s when they deserve extra praise. When a person or company only does what is expected and doesn’t go above and beyond, that’s just them doing their job. Forgeworld in Reach was highly praised and loved because it was above and beyond what had ever happened in Halo. When 343i severely downgraded Forge in H4, they not only failed to do the expected, they failed the benchmark. Now, with Forge Island, it’s much better than the original Forge canvasses but still not as good as ForgeWorld. Therefore, they still failed to hit the benchmark and simply do what is expected.
Are we glad Forge had got better in H4? Yes, but we’re still frustrated they downgraded Forge.
People are upset because they purposefully made the game less challenging and less balanced. It wasn’t a mistake they are working to fix. They admitted it, it was intentional. This justifies the hate as far as I’m concerned.
I think you may be correct to an extent about 343i not getting the respect they deserve, but I also didn’t all of the game I payed for, and with Josh Holmes GDC Panel I think it is safe to say they do not respect their core fan base, and do not think very highly of them.
I wish that everyone could have constructive, and progressive discussions, and arguments, but it is a video game forum, and maturity levels aren’t very high in environments like this, sad as that may be.
The fact of the matter is that they went in the wrong direction, and with each coming public event we see more and more that they have no plan to build off of what made Halo Multiplayer great, and is not only disappointing, but reckless.
I really do hope that they can learn from their mistakes, and fix their current ones, but with all do respect, at this point I do not feel they deserve my respect, but i certainly feel disrespected.
You know before GDC I would have agreed with you op. Sure I hate the game but sometimes what they got was just too much. But after we saw their thought process behind halo 4 at GDC, I just dont care anymore what is thrown at them. They did everything I hate when making halo 4. They made the gameplay simpler and watered it down in an attempt to appeal to more people.
Did you watch the GDC panel? I supported 343 until the release of the Halo 4, praised them for Forge Island. I praised them for a lot of things. But after that panel…I’m not even saying anything else…
Also, might I that add that this is coming from myself being a casual player from Halo 2 going into Halo 3. I turned competitive with Reach.
I some times feel bad for them. Then I remember they made halo 4 and then that feeling goes away.

Well you should care, because it isn’t just for forgers. You know those forge maps you play in Throwdown, Grifball, community playlists, & etc. those were (obviously) made in Forge. Offering this for free affects all players who don’t just play the 2 main Infinity playlists. It also came with some really nice forge pieces and a green screen. I don’t forge at all, but it’s ungrateful to just brush off how helpful Forge Island is going to be. Just today they added a Forge Island map to the Grifball playlist and I’m sure many more maps will be coming along the way. You see, with forgers having a nice looking flat ground to forge on maps will come out looking nice, playing nicer, and giving an all around better experience if you play in playlists with forge maps in them.
End Rant.
After this: http://i.imgur.com/h2MTcl9.png I will never respect them for anything. They are pure filth as a company to offend thousands and thousands of people with that image.
Because they betrayed us and they betrayed Halo. You can’t change a well loved formula completely and expect all your lifetime fans to accept it. Sure they worked their -Yoinks!- off to make this game, but I sure as hell don’t respect them in the slightest. They destroyed everything about Halo I used to love, and I hate them for doing that.

At least the guy who made that apologized for it.
Oh, and I respect them for trying to bring more people into Halo. BUT, the dumber learning curve is like a slap to the face.

But why would you post something like that at a damn convention at all? Regardless of who made it, even if it wasn’t their intention to offend. It’s about the worst thing you can make to represent Halo 4 and after GDC, I’m currently holding my rage in to not go and and make and endless rant like I used to.

They deserve nothing but hate for ruining a great series.

I think he used it to show accessibility. It works, its just super offensive.

You again? All your doing is posting the same things on different threads.
Hmm, I was told that things like respect and trust had to be earned…
Now, with being said, I didn’t think the whole game was horrible… the Campaign was nice… but there is Plenty of room for improvement… not bad enough to step on 343I’s name then spit on it.
