343 is trying folks. Another good step

Sure they’re trying… to harpoon whales!

At this point, I won’t bother with Infinite for at least another 6-9 months, if at all, they botched it, and I won’t reward them by contributing to their player count.

343 had 6 years and a huge budget, and they managed to -yoink- it up. Again.

See the problem with this is that everyone at 343 should have seen this backlash coming a mile away.

The entire system from the ground up reeks of what some would call a greedy money grab. A lot of this is a perception that 343 created themselves in the way they have handled their messaging.

Not a single XP boost for free players in the BP, but they sell them with Rockstar and in the store. No list of items unlocked for the Campaign, but an active store. A heavy push on HCS, with limited casual lists. A full start to a season one paid Battle Pass and Level skips, but still a “Beta”, but not really stated as a Beta at all in the game except a news feed. No currency for the store in the Pass. Forge and Co Op pushed back. A free event with items available only in the store.

The games good qualities are being overshadowed by these stupid PR mistakes.

Another good step!?! Baby steps that is. Should be leaps and bounds above all others. MS got that money!

Should have been delayed another year. This is completely unacceptable for a AAA launch let alone a HALO launch. CE, 2, 3, ODST, REACH. These games set the bar with each release and add features on top of loved features with each release. 343i has fumbled time and time again, with less and less loved Halo features upon each release. Infinite MP is a joke. Lackluster customizations and game modes. Broken this and that. Missing features. Total -Yoink!- show. This was my last hope for 343i. Yet again failed me. I’ll play the story and shelve yet another Halo game.

Just wait until players get what they want, permanent 300XP for completing matches, then by the end of December when they’re through the BP they’re back on here complaining about how there’s no incentive to play. Morons.

This is the truth. F2p is problematic because it brings out the wretches in all video games it touches.

I hope they don’t do that. This isn’t cod and leveling systems are just an annoyance and needless.

Halo 5 had it and I don’t see an issue with it.
It doesn’t need to be a direct copy, it’s just another way of progressino.

It’s funny. It’s like you totally disregarded the part where I said they still make money from the general release and sale of the game, just to suit your argument.

I also don’t believe you are a real software engineer. You say you are just as a badge to try and nullify the arguments of people who are angry at the current state of the game, even though their anger is rightfully placed.

Like, are you new here? You do realize 343i has done this sort of thing before, right? Not just with Halo 5, but with Halo MCC, too. It literally took an angry mob for them to finally get those games in running order.

But no. Let’s disregard all of that, right? Just because they did one “fix”? That’s crazy, bro. Tell me more.

Yeah. People are saying that 343 aren’t listening or that they’re a terrible company, which in some ways is kind of true, but they are listening for the most part.

It’s almost like I didn’t even make a statement about that in the first place and that’s not what I’m arguing. For everyone who doesn’t buy the campaign there is no revenue to recoup cost. Even with campaign purchases, that does nothing for the ongoing content development costs.

You don’t have to believe but it’s the truth. You called me out on it, I didn’t go shouting from the rooftops that I am. I mean in all honestly, how many non developers out there even know what the heck an optimizing compiler even is, let alone have contributed to one. All I’ll add to that is I haven’t contributed to GCC because doing so would result in potential IP contamination for the compiler I was actually working on. And I don’t want to say which compiler because given the small size of the compiler community, and my past game dev experience, I don’t want to be doxxed (the intersection of those two roles I’m pretty sure is very small).

I get that people are angry but maybe you should go ahead and reread what my initial comment was. Nobody is claiming this is a final fix. It’s a Band-Aid and 343 rightfully and openly acknowledges it. All I said was that all these people saying “They knew since the flights” doesn’t realize that that alone doesn’t mean it would have been done by launch, because software dev isn’t that straightforward.

Just tell me your standards are low. I won’t dog on you, but it’s not my fault your standards are this low. It’s 343i’s. Just grab a pitch fork and torch. They’re right over there.

Dude I can say that it’s unreasonable to expect the overhauled progression system by launch, even considering the flight feedback, while also agreeing that the current system needs improvement. Those aren’t mutually exclusive

Sorry I don’t feel the need to grab the pitchforks over how we gain imaginary points and armour in an otherwise (fun) ctional (and free) game.

Does there being cash and monetization involved have any impact on your assessment here? Is it reasonable for a developer to continue to offer rotten deals to customers on their storefronts (that they deliberately designed) while fixing the problems?

Consumer protections agencies really, really need to step up and take certain sectors of the gaming industry to court. The kinds of monetization systems built some “games” these days are unscrupulous at best, if not blatantly unethical, predatory, and exploitative of customers. “We’re working on it” doesn’t cut it. “We’re working on it, and in the mean time we’ll be disabling our in-store shop other than the season pass to ensure you get a fair value for your time and money” just might, though.

Rotten is purely subjective here. I don’t see this as any different from Gucci or supreme selling (IMO) overpriced garbage but I’m not in any position to tell another person that they don’t have the right to purchase said garbage at it’s MSRP.

There is nothing manipulative about the store. It tells you what you will get and it tells you the price. If you don’t want it, or it’s too expensive for your tastes or wallet, just do what I do with Gucci - don’t buy it. Share your opinions by all means but demanding a shutdown of the store is unreasonable I think.

Definitely some stores and game systems out there are predatory (and even gambling) but this isn’t it.

Yh man it’s irony at its best, I believe in not rushing a product, people make mistakes easily rectified

Could not agree more. This isn’t some yearly product like COD that they tried a little something new with. This game has been in development for more than 6 years. And what do they have to show for it?

  • outrageously priced micro transactions
  • controversial progression system
  • controversial battlepass
  • limited MP modes
  • no choice of MP game mode
  • no campaign co-op
  • no forge

And these are the facts that we know so far. I’ll give it to them that they got the game play right but not much else. And to say “it’s a Beta” is a factual statement, but to expect much to change by its actual release seems like an item on a wish list than something that should be expected. 343 themselves said that everyone was getting much needed time off, so who exactly will be making these changes before launch?

And if they can some how pull off these massive, overhauling changes by 12/8 then I think they just took all of their early adopters for a ride because that tells me they had them largely ready already and wanted to see how far they could push the community.

It’s all a huge let down for a game that has had the time and money put behind it that this one has. 343/Microsoft needs to really evaluate who is managing these first party games. This seems to happen a lot for them.

Yeah Halo Infinite really isn’t as good a game as people make it out to be. 6-7 years of development and launch day has LESS content than H5’s launch? Sorry hard pass.

I still refuse to pay any money, not even got the premium battle pass, which hurts me to say as a fan.

20€ for a different armor?! Really… you know I can eat 5 days with 20€, or in other words, working 2 hours to earn 20€. Of course some people don’t understand the value of money. If it would be 2€ for one item, that would be reasonable, because it is only cosmetic and doesn’t do anything except looking good.

What’s confusing to me is, that the general consensus in the public press seems to be very positive.

All that other crap diminishes the good gameplay. And yes, I am super thankful and happy to play a new Halo but I just can’t support that monetization system. I have a friend with mental health issues who is currently in the psych ward because he couldn’t control his spending habits in another F2P videogame.

Sadly this will be the first time ever I won’t run to the store to get the new Halo game.

Not going to lie, the Monolith Council comment made me chuckle  . Good post though!

Let’s see if they actually make a true Halo customization system. Cause right now, I’m level 20 in the battle
