343 is trying folks. Another good step

6 years in the making, 3 games to learn from, 2 flights with feedback, other games showing how it’s done… and now we should be happy that they aren’t only listening? yeah…. i dont think so. xD

Seriously… what 343 is doing to the franchise is absolutely beyond acceptable. Heck, they would have even released the game last year just to earn some bucks.

edit:

they sacrificed RvsB for some completely useless customization system. I honestly have to play in some glowing -Yoink!- style just some kid can show off their 50$ armor which he did NOTHING to earn it? thanks, 343…

A good start would be offering credits for wins, would push the incentive to actually play the match and try and get the win for those sweet sweet credits

lol, that’s a “good start”? Allow us to circumvent your entire monetization system by just winning matches, and that’s what you consider a “start”? Man I knew the people in this forum wanted everything handed to them on a silver platter, but this is rich.

It’s sad but true it’s like that for many games now a days

Not relaxing till we get primary and secondary colour choice back at the very least.

You should schedule a doctors appointment then. You’ll need it soon enough, especially after you realize this will never happen. Not in this game anyway.

Can’t believe people are actually okay with basic customization being taken from them.
Have fun buying White for 20 bucks then.

If they wanted to make an impact with some longevity they would leave it at 150 exp per match.

You certainly won’t find me breaking out my wallet for any colors.

Ummmmm, no. The only thing they are trying is to see how much they can get away with. They took 6+ years to ship a featureless game, with a ton of pay walled items.

One of the most anticipated games of the last few years and they hold their fan base hostage by putting the best items behind a pay wall, drip feed content and severely limit progression. It’s a bad look for a game that needs the rebound after previous missteps.

So 660 matches to complete the battle pass without challenges? I haven’t played that hardcore and I’ve already completed 112 games. I’d have an extra 11 levels on my Battle Pass. I’d probably be level 100 before end of year and have nothing to work toward for 100+ days. Except maybe weekly challenges.

Sorry, but I think your idea sucks.

You just asked for 150 XP just for playing every match. Of course they’re not gonna listen when that’s the kind of feedback they get lol.

I’d have more praise to give if it weren’t for the fact that the monetization of this game was deliberately designed using dark patterns. They haven’t removed any of those. At all. The dark patterns baked into the game are all still there.

For those unaware, “dark patterns” is a term originally used to describe systems designed to trick people into doing things that are not in their best interest. In the context of gaming, in encompasses tricks and traps ranging from pay-to-skip (also called solution selling), daily rewards, artificial scarcity, grinding, and more.

The examples I listed just now are all baked into the design of this game’s monetization strategy. The change made recently - front loading daily XP gains - is done precisely to coax players into playing daily, in short bursts, to form a habit and for some gaming addiction. It’s exactly the opposite sort of change we want to see for healthy monetization that isn’t trying to take customers for a ride.

Some things that would make REAL progress in banishing the dark patterns from this game:

  • NO FAKE CURRENCY. All cash shop purchases need to be made with real world currency. Fake currency obfuscates prices, makes it hard to track your spending, results in money being held hostage, and is just bad for the customer.
  • NO PAID BOOSTERS OR SWAPS. This is classic solution selling and doesn’t belong in any game.
  • NO TEMPORAL DARK PATTERNS. No daily rewards, no weekly rewards. Just rewards for playing whenever you want to, not appointments manipulated by the developer.

Just sell honest product for honest prices, no tricks, no traps. Sell a season pass as an honest product without trickery. Sell reasonably priced bundles of cosmetics without trickery. Stop being a game that’s playing it’s players instead of a game people play. Then and only then will I say 343 has taken a “good step.”

I couldn’t agree more. 343i is taking what steps they can now. I’m grateful for a more positive forum thread, because I was honestly slipping into the negativity most other threads created. I’m not completely happy, but I think that’s ok because I know with the outcry of so many, things will shift to a more favorable solution. Plus, I have my eyes focused on the campaign.

The MP does a lot of things right, in regards to actual video game experience. And, the hiccups have been mild in regards to actual gameplay. If the three biggest complaints are customization, monetization, and progression, then it’s an actual win for them, and myself, personally.

I agree with a lot of the complaints regarding customization, monetization, and progression, but I also don’t want those things to consume my actual experience playing the game. Some of it has, but keeping optimistic helps.

The good thing is that’s only assuming the base rewards with no other challenges. Add a 2x boost on there and get a few challenges in, and it’s real easy to get three or four levels.

Yeah I used one of my free XP boosters, played two games, and gained two levels back to back.

This is only a band-aid. The disease is still there, eating away at Halo and the community.

Yeah, it’s pretty damn bad if Bungie is mentioned in post regularly :joy::man_facepalming:

Yes you can blame them for having a store, cut out the store keep the 10$ per battlepass season will make 343 MORE than enough money especially considering this game is supposed to last 10 years and MCC got 8 seasons in the last 2 years. Do the math and you’ll realize that the battlepass system will make 343 more than enough money, the store is only here to leech off of dumb players.

As nice as it is to think about a live service game without an in game store, especially one that’s free to play, I don’t think it’s realistic. They are a business and have the goal of making profits, which the store can ultimately give.

I agree changes need to be made, but I can’t foresee eliminating the store as probable. As I said in my previous comment, early customization is obviously lacking, and I believe more options would alleviate some anger.
