343 is treating you like a toddler. Now eat your mush

Why are game companies treating gamers like toddlers? They are putting training wheels on all the gameplay.

Don’t bump into people-No player collision
Don’t hurt your friends while playing- No friendly fire
Don’t hurt yourself- No fall damage even if you screw up, Mommy’s got you.
Someone is sniping- look for the beacon, because shot trails and muzzle flash is not enough.
if you walk your on everyone’s radar not to mention jumping, sliding, sprinting, clambering, highjacking, using equipment, driving, meleeing, shooting all show up too.
Trying to stealth cap the flag, no no it glows now. Not to mention a beacon While sprinting.
Automatic Grapple Jacking.
Grenade Hit Markers help find players you can’t normally see.
Can’t let anyone get lost so we’ll put them in a box and outline all the players and make them glow.
Gotta have the wall hacks, lets rebrand it the threat sensor.
Hit markers in general are redundant if the art design is doing their jobs and giving proper feed back through shield flare.

None of these training wheels used be in gaming in general not just Halo and it kinda sucks 343. I believe all these are put in, in the name of accessibility.
Who are they making the game for toddler’s? Minecrafter’s that grew up playing creative? This is a shooter everything should be dangerous to players. 343 needs to quit giving us plastic dinnerware.

“Why is there a cork on the fork?” Only 80’s kids will get that one.

If people don’t speak up against this stuff pretty soon they’ll add more “accessibily” to the game.

Do you want a glowing beacon above your head if you pick up the rockets? The Sniper lens flare is bridging that taboo.

If more people try to play defensive and actively guard their flag they might make the outline even brighter.

Maybe they’ll even add footprints to track people while camo, oh wait they did that.

Did anyone see the lens flare in the Commando and BR it was as bright as the first time I seen glint on a sniper in a multiplayer game years ago.

is this stuff not making people angry? I don’t need a need 343 to be my guardian angel in matchmaking. Do you?

I don’t think anyone is getting the message so let me put it this way. Time and money vs content.

Think about all these unasked for accessibility features for all the kids that play in god mode. All the development man hours money spent paying employees its likely a large amount of time and effort.

Now think about that gametype you would like to see. Maybe a fan favorite returning weapon that’s been cut. Maybe a Biome to explore. Playable Elites? Just maybe? Nope.

ACCESSIBILTY training wheels… That’s how they plan on getting more new players. Mommy’s gotta hold our hand so we can cross the street. Don’t teach us to look both ways before crossing on our own all over town. Then again most people cross streets now staring at their phones…

I think that’s enough internet for you, Timmy.

I mean, player collision and friendly fire is something that can probably be enabled, so while I’d prefer that in the game I don’t think 343 is treating players like children for trying something different. Players have had issues with things like friendly fire for years. Is outright hitting it the way? Maybe not, but at least they tried something. Ranting about tall damage is odd since we first lost that in Halo 2. Was Bungie treating us like babies, too?

Put the performative outrage away and try again. Adding a beacon showing a sniper didn’t cut into a map being made. Adding lens flare didn’t result in a biome being cut. Like, you really thing the gameplay people and the environmental artists are doing the same jobs? Be serious.

Some of your complaints I understand and agree with. I think friendly fire and collision should be on by default. They have been part of the Halo sandbox from the beginning and add a layer of complexity to combat. You can’t just fire and forget without consideration for your teammates. Provide the option to turn it off for customs and certain social playlists, certainly.

I also dislike hit markers. It feels like something adopted from other popular games in the genre simply because other popular games are doing it. It gives you information you wouldn’t otherwise have, especially with things like blind grenades around corners, which can confirm the presence of an enemy you would otherwise have not known was there.

Some of your other complaints make little sense to me. The motion sensor has been a part of Halo since the beginning. Awareness that rapid movement or firing weapons will reveal your presence to the enemy. Why is a returning standard feature a sign that the game is being dumbed down?

Edit: Why was this post flagged? I don’t see what rule I broke. Was it an error with the new forum? Or did someone find my take that objectionable?

I think player collision is on, but only for ranked. And there is some sort of friendly fire, as i have been betrayed and accidentally betrayed someone.

I never once felt like multiplayer was dangerous. Not in any FPS game. Only campaigns. I always found hit markers helpful for tracking enemies. Games like Halo 1-3, I could barely tell if I was hitting my shots, especially with accurate precision.

You should stop treating Halo or FPS games in general like a serious real-life tone. “Everything should be dangerous to players” was just icing the cake. Even competitive players don’t lash out like this and they are the ones who really should take the game seriously.

You overall jsut said you don’t like Halo altogether right now. Lets have it be 2008 because thats only when the game was actually good. So lest juts revert everything, no change whatsoever. This just helps a whole new competitive perspective.

Looks like someone’s up past their bedtime. You’ve lost your gaming privileges for tomorrow!

You can stealth cap the flag, just don’t run with it.

Can’t be bothered to address each bit, but some of it is due to balancing features and some of it is to help newer players onboard. Those feature are turned off for competitive anyway so I don’t think it’s a big deal.

Sounds like you should play ranked. There’s still some of those things you mentioned but a lot of them aren’t present there.

:man_facepalming:…I mean come on…This is type of thread why the vast majority of Halo fans don’t bother with the forums and mute everyone during every MP match, and I say this as a casual fan myself. If you don’t like the game, don’t buy/play it.

Just play ranked then? It’s exactly what you’re asking for. Wasn’t that announced about a week or two ago?

Am I missing something?

This sounds like an advanced situation meant for training purposes during multiplayer. The fact remains the flag, for example, would be identified via homing radar Infinity Command made up for the War Games. They want to see if you can really move an objective when you are detected by all enemies in the AO and those enemies are now seeking you while worrying about your teammates.

Everything above is up for grabs on doing better under stricter conditions. It isn’t so much training wheels as they are saying to get better so humanity doesn’t lose to a new threat like the Forerunners.

As for non-lore implications? We’ll see how they play out when we get our hands on the game.

I wouldn’t say they are treating us like toddlers, having friendly fire off in social game types is a good thing and is refreshing to be able to play halo without having some loser constantly betraying their team for the lolz, this happens all the time in MCC .
fall damage is just annoying and its good its gone.
However I do agree that player collision NEEDS to be turned back on.

I agree with some of the stuff you are mentioning although I would have worded the complaint a bit different.
My only thing with friendly fire is that I always ALWAYS have some teammate kill me because they want my gun, or some other stupid shit and they never do anything to punish this behavior. Because the boot system usually only works if you kill teammate more than once.

And so the cycle continues…

  1. How am I going to use the grapple hook the way I want to if there is fall damage or the repulsor etc.
  2. Removing player collision does nothing to lower the skill gap if anything I agree with this decision imagine trying to get into the very small doorways on recharge with a teammate trying to go out makes no sense
  3. Friendly fire is on for comp ur less likely to be griefed if there is a personal cost to the person doing it.
  4. literally none of these decisions take away from the skill gap that infinite has honestly you haven’t thought any of this through
  • This game isn’t meant to be a carbon copy of H3 get over it or get out

The only problem i have with no player collision means that i can fire a rocket and then die because a teammate runs through me as i shoot it, it hits them, I die.
