343 is capable of adding the Hornet to Halo 4

HALO 3 HORNET pl0x

Please! It was fun flying your friends around in Halo 3 and Reach, possibly you can add to the TU? I’m a realistic person however. I understand that the team would need to make agreements on putting this Hornet into the game, and a team to draw up some concept art, then countless revisions to make sure you dont let down the fans, and then decide the balance of this in the multiplayer if it ever comes.

This is just a thought, any flying vehicle in which I can carry my friends would be nice. I would hate it if you would wait until the next Halo, this is YOUR game, I can count on you.

I’m not sure that the TU would allow them to add brand new weapons, vehicles, and objects to the entire game. However, they should be able to add them in new DLC maps.

(In the Halo engine, assets are stored inside of map files, rather than in a shared space. One map file can pull data from another, but the data that any given map tries to pull seems to be set in stone. Therefore, 343i can only add new vehicles to new maps.)

i would be happy with this

Totally forgot about that. Have I learned nothing from Halo CE modding? lol
If they add a forge world (theoretically) they could add all the custom objects they wanted.

Screw Hornets. Falcons and Revenants all the way. And Choppers. All the fun vehicles from Halo’s past.

But yeah, those aren’t gonna be added in title updates. That’d be a lot of data. Getting them in new maps is probably not without challenges. I’m skeptical we’ll see new guns or vehicles added.

I’d take the hornet any day, but it’s nothing but a flying mantis with passenger seats.

I’m not saying we can’t have both.

It really isnt a lot of data. A map in Halo is roughly 150-200 Mb. A hornet would probably be like 12mb. I’ve taken a lot of 3d max classes, they aren’t really that big.

That 12mb would only be a model. No texture, no animations, no exploding models, no physics interactions, no ability to move, no damage model, no weapons, no sound effects. No anything except for a single color 3d model without even so much as a reflection map.

You don’t seem to know much about what you say.

When a bungie employee was asked about this kind of thing in the past, he claimed it would be in the order of GBs to add new armour variants to each Halo 3 map, not MBs. I mean no disrespect to you, but when I have to decide between believing a Bungie employee that’s worked on at least one Halo game and someone on the forums who’s taken 3d max classes, I feel like the safer choice is the former.

That said, I really don’t wanna try to hunt for that quote, 'cause it was four or five years ago, plus I’d have to deal with possible hiccups in looking up old posts (if Bungie keeps those) in their new site format.

There’s a lot of other reasons they wouldn’t add new vehicles besides feasibility of the update, though. They’d need to make animations (not just store them, but make 'em), record sounds, and test the vehicles on every map to make sure there’s no outlandish or unforeseen issues with these vehicles. 343’s getting plenty of flak for the material they’ve produced already; I doubt they wanna divert too much of their focus towards making new things instead of refining the old.

I remember seeing that, but I think the problem there was with map redownloads. The armor data itself would not be significantly large, but they’d have to re-release every map in the game with the new data added.

Aye.

I’m gone for 5 minutes and everyone assumes im an idiot. When I said I took 3d studio max classes i wasn’t trying to play it off as a pro game designer, just saying those were the average file sizes of my models.
Anyways, the question here is if 343 is willing to do this at all, because honestly Halo 4 needs one.

Not to mention I dont know really how the rest works. We used default shaders on our models so I really wouldnt know if that adds to the file size. Plus we never did anything with sound and the only time I experimented with sound is with halo editing kit (which didnt really work, I’ll be).
If I insulted anyones elses knowledge I apologize, it was only a year long class, I was just making real world references, thats all.

Actually, they wouldn’t neccesarily need to make concepts and test models since they already have an AI Hornet flying around on Skyline. It pops up every once in a while shining a light into the map.

And as said before, DLC vehicles or weapons would likely only be added to new maps, unless they want to make a big update to all the maps in Halo 4 (my assumption, I don’t know exactly how they would have to do it).
But the good thing is, with a Hornet friendly map could come a new Forge map too. That’d be a special idea.

I would love a UNSC flying vehicle back. I liked controlling the Falcon best, but the Hornet is best for shooting (though how would both perform in Halo 4…). With updated or better controls for the Hornet I’d love it.

Well I do miss blasting them out of the sky with my Splaser…easy triple right there.

> Well I do miss blasting them out of the sky with my Splaser…easy triple right there.

That, and I miss grabbing the flag with it and taking a nice flight back to our base.

Nah dude, it’s fine. Disagreement isn’t aggression. We’re just talking about stuff. You supplied what info you knew and I supplied what I knew; the goal is to determine what we can learn from that process and walk away better informed.

In theory, that’s how all forums are supposed to work. In practice, well… there’s just nasty folks out there.
