343 Involvement w/Community and Favorites?!

I’m not here to bash or point fingers, but I’ve kind of felt a lack of involvemt between 343i and the Halo community.

I know they have a whole lot on their plate, it’s just one of my favorite things (being an old bnet guy) was the Halo community.

The forums on this site aren’t as easily findable or promoted as the bnet forums were. They kinda feel clustered and member rankings don’t even vary.

Also, I was a HUGE fan of the poorly-chosen “Bungie Favorites.” The weekly update always had me searching for what Bungie had liked. (Take into account I was younger, and as clueless as could be for the fact that these were just seemingly random images)

I would really like to see some community outreach, I don’t know in what way, maybe play with employees or something, who knows. I’d just like to see some involvement! Maybe it’s just me.

If you have any take on this I’d love to hear your opinion.

Or not :,(

do they even have a community manager?

All I want is to be able to talk to 343 without having to tweet them as if they’re my 12 year old cousin. What happened to phones? I’m 22 and I feel old now. Either way, this is the first company I’ve dealt with that’s ever had such backwards customer service.

More updates would be nice too. I don’t see why they don’t have a staff member dedicated to responding to all this community whining that’s rampant on this forum. I think a policy like that would reduce a lot of the complaining if for once we got a straight answer from a 343 staff member. Even a “yea, we hear you and we’re looking at the data to see what we can do about the issue” would probably cut our complaint clutter in half.

Not to point out the obvious, but if they elected one person to address everything being said on the forums the poor -Yoink- would probably just as soon give up and turn in their 2 weeks notice from all the whining.

This is how it usually goes: Whine, get updates that fix, find something else to whine about. There are people nowadays that simply will not be pleased no matter what you do.

Not to disagree that it would be nice if they didn’t only use twitter, which I never use.

I want 343 favorites so, so badly. I loved looking at Bungie favorites just like you did. But, you know what would be truly amazing? What if they brought back the “Halo 3 Recon” feel? What if your theater clip was so good, that they gave you an armor that is cooler than anything else thus far? That would be cool. I have always wanted that because I got Halo 3 shortly after that tradition at Bungie was taken down and replaced with Vidmasters. The sad thing is my killionaire with a pistol would have at least gotten recognition (not meaning to be cocky, considering that the Halo 3 magnum was pretty bad.)

I believe their involvement into what stays and goes in the game (referencing matchmaking updates the past few weeks) is incredible, its nice to be able to feel as though our opinions matter. I will also say that contacting them or receiving help is very hard to do. Contacting xbox live does nothing when trying to talk specifically on Halo 4’s matchmaking, spent an hour on the phone with xbox support and they don’t really know anything about the game itself haha.

This is what happens when someone lets Microsoft get their hands on the Halo IP.

It is not longer special.

It has lost it’s soul.

That is not what anyone is talking about.

You obviously havnt been involved with bungie.net have you…?

Bungie constantly was involved with the community through

1.humpday game sessions

2.awesome weekly updates

3.events

4.constant interaction on the forums with members ( they had the freedom to just kinda chill and talk to people sometimes as long as it wasn’t anything to spoil their games secrets )

5.AMAZING and witty humor on the forums, updates, mail sacks, and in the games.

  1. SHISHKA ( graphic designer from Bungie ) WHO IS AWESOME WROTE A ONE PAGE REVIEW OF SOME GRAPHIC DESIGN WORK I SENT BUNGIE, and although he was highly critical ( and rightly so ) I learned so much from him and was spurred on to make my work even better.

^ that is how awesome bungie was.

343 needed to set that bar and exceed it.

The problem is the community not knowing what it actually wants. Half of you say DMR is Op; the other say AR…how do you honestly expect 343 to even attempt to address those sorts of issues when the community itself is split on quite litrally everything?

Don’t get me wrong, there are warranted criticisms (custom games, forge related issues etc my heart bleads for those respective communities) that should really have been included and I’m sure this is down to development scehdules etc, so just give the devs some time. How much? Try an actual month after release.

I know everyone likes to praise Bungie and halo 3 (mind you, the praise is warranted), but guess what it took a while for things to get started. All the good things they did (bungie favourites etc) didn’t happen until at least a month after release. Maybe give 343 the same benefit of the doubt and time to implement such things?

In the mean time, sit back, relax and enjoy your game. Somehow reached level 70/exp cap and you can’t get any further? Go outside for a walk, take a break and enjoy life (heck, do that anyway!)

Hi there, Firstly I’m sorry you’re feeling a little disconnected,
343 Industries often have community playdates, Where 343i staff host Halo gaming nights which are always great fun to play and be apart of,
These usually take place each month and I’m sure they will come back into play shortly on Halo 4.
Be sure to keep an eye on any announcements via the Waypoint news.

> do they even have a community manager?

We most certainly do, bs angel.

First off, thanks to everyone who replied. I’m glad to see I’m not alone. To respond some points which I found very effective in this post:

-Super Hybrid IX: great list. I miss all of that.

-Overuse of ONLY twitter. (Not even an overuse) but a lack of any other form of communication.

-Shade09: Thanks for the info, I’d love to make an event like that. Once Jagain kinda shows the underuse of this stuff in the forums. I’ve never heard of any of that!

que inspirational music
Good news is if we can get a large enough voice as a collective whole, we can bring the soul back in Halo. I know it’s still there, it’ll just take a little extra to bring it back!

Not to call you out, but why isn’t there more direct contact (such as your posts here) in the forum? We shouldn’t be sent to twitter to get 343’s attention. I see a lot of censored posts, locked topics, etc, so I know someone is looking at the forums, but very few actual posts which show us that we’ve been heard. What’s with the disconnect? Why is this entire company’s customer service model consist of users having one way conversations and hoping they’ve been heard?

In my opinion, people like BS Angel and other reps should be posting more often, especially so soon after a release with so much critical feedback being posted all over the forum. We’re left here in the dark wondering what’s going to be fixed. Think they’ll fix the weapon imbalance? Did they read the thread on that boltshot glitch? Wonder if they will fix that hole in map X. These are questions we shouldn’t be asking ourselves. This is basic customer service and it’s being ignored. Any other company would at least have a basic support system in place, whether that’s online tickets or a phone number. I think most would also opt to make their presence and intents known rather than leaving users in the dark until a fix is already in place.

I don’t think I’m really asking for too much when I say we need a bit of back and forth and a real customer service system that doesn’t consist of directing users to a social media site. I’m not gonna sign up for twitter to get help with a problem in Halo.

I just wish they would tell us what theyre fixing, what they are looking into.

Couldn’t be put better.

Bump

I really don’t give a hoot about the stupid DMR already. I just want all the CUSTOM games back!!!
