343, Infinite is great! But face facts: Customization was a huge swing and miss

Discussions of progression aside (which is another massive issue), customization is exactly as we expected, if not much worse, despite the devs and community team defending it.

The restrictive concept of armor cores, limiting most paid shaders to specific armor sets, and the lack of color customization is not going to work long-term. Don’t get me wrong, the armor looks incredible! But without being able to customize that armor, it will simply deter people from paying for armor sets and shaders, which again in the long-term will hurt business, which obviously will negate the reason why this armor system was implemented in the first place: to make money.

Armor customization peaked with Reach and Halo 4, but has been regressing ever since. We need to be going forward, not backward.

Reach was definitely the best system. I don’t know why they are so reluctant to reuse it.

Hopefully they will re-examine their monetisation practices and season passes so that the system is more palatable to all concerned. I think their data is skewed because it is based partly on MCC and the tech previews, systems where this was all free. Habits change when real money is involved.

As for armour cores, I think segregating armour sets was a mistake. Hopefully they will reassess the system so that more pieces and coatings are interchangeable and can be mixed, even if there are a handful that have to remain locked to specific cores.

I am personally yet to see a single armour coating that I want. They said this would improve player expression, but I’m not allowed to express myself at all.

True they hyped up customisation so much and I had hoped that this will be the best Halo Armour customisation out of any halo but was proven wrong.
Armour Cores are bad like what’s the point of unlocking armour for MK B if your main is MK VII. Why can’t we mix armour in this game.

Game is great. I’m so happy I haven’t crashed in BTB so far unlike last time. BTB also feels great again unlike halo 5. Maps are fun even though its disappointing to not see many right now, hope to see more at December. Customization I actually like, coatings looks great but I’ll never support the coating system on how they work.

What I don’t like is the progression system where I can only earn xp through challenges.

Also I saw this but the vehicle animations are sometimes weird like it looks like they way they move when I jump out of the from look like the 1980s. It’s pretty hilarious though I have laughed at it but animations gotta be better. Maybe it’s just me because I’m playing on an xbox one x.

But yeah game works good for me.

I was incredibly surprised to learn that coatings weren’t universal across all armors. That just seems like a really unnecessary restriction. I actually was considering buying the team envy armor simply because I loved the color scheme for it, but thankfully I learned the coating is tied to solely that set up so I didn’t do it.

I realize the game is f2p and they need to make money, but I think they’re going way too hard on the restrictive nature of it. Limiting coatings to certain armors actually lost them potential revenue because of the example above.

This could be just me, but I’d be far more inclined to spend money on cosmetics if they gave us a bit more versatility with them. As it stands, nothing is appealing to me in the store because I want to mix and match. Not be locked to that single set up.

I’m bummed they left out the target emblem. I’ve been using that one since it was available in Halo.

Totally agree with OP here. I made the mistake of buying the Cloud 9 skin because of how awesome it looks, only to realize you can’t -Yoink!- edit a single piece of it. I can’t even put my own emblem on it. Can’t change the helmet, the shoulders, anything. $10 to look cool in the default armor only and have zero options to customize it. Never again.

EDIT: And another thing! You people took out the Valkyrie emblem which I have had in every Halo game since Halo 2, nevermind the fact that even if it was in the game I can’t customize the colors of it outside of your predetermined color schemes??? Get REAL 343.

They told us that we’d love Infinite’s armor customization if we loved Reach’s. Technically we do have something very similar to Reach’s (minus the Credits system) but the armor is just so limited right now and made even more limited by the armor cores. All they had to do was implement a customization system just like Reach’s and add onto it with things like rewarding armors for different feats (like a new helmet for getting an Extermination or something) and it would have been perfect. They knew that but somehow we ended up with this system. I’m really enjoying Infinite’s gameplay so far so I don’t mean to seem too overly mad at 343 but the game is definitely not perfect and some things like promising Reach-Style customization seem almost borderline deceptive when you look at the system we got (very few armors, with nearly all of them being locked behind a pay wall of some kind and not earnable any other way) versus what we expected to get based on 343’s own words

Customization is currently on the weak side and pretty much everyone agrees about the progression system but I’m trying to just play the game without worrying too much about the challenges and unlocking new stuff and just letting it unlock naturally as I play which makes the game way more fun

Technically speaking the armor system in halo Infinite IS the armor system from Reach in terms of customization, and then some. But I get where you’re coming from. I like the coatings offered so far but it would be a better system if they allowed individual material, wear, colors, patterns etc and monetized those instead of a color set. If anything it’d make them more money.
On the level of customization, not including colors, this is the best system we’ve had to date. It’s got Reach armors and Mark VII and Yoroi and whatever else comes
