Just as the title says. While 343 did include armor lockers in Halo infinite’s campaign, a major criticism has been that they don’t include actual armor. Now, 343 never said they would, but one could still argue the name armor locker was misleading nor did they ever challenge that assumption, especially when game journalists who played early insisted the then rumor based on datamining was incorrect and armor was in the campaign. Obviously, that was wrong. However, with new campaign missions as DLC down the line, I think 343 should retroactively create a system where fans can unlock armor in the campaign. That said, I don’t think it should just be given away, but instead, I think they should add requirements to unlock these items. However, I do think there should be one reward that could go out to people who have beaten the game on Legendary already. It’s a small one, but here is what I am thinking.
Requirement: Complete the Halo Infinite campaign on Legendary
Reward: 117 Emblem
Yes, it’s fairly basic, but I think it would be nice to have an emblem you can put on your Spartan just like how Chief has his number on his armor now. Again, it’s a small thing.
With that in mind, I think an excellent place 343 could start with actual armor would be to allow fans to unlock the armor worn by the Spartans of Blue Team. The armor could (arguably should) be individual pieces or armor kits. I’m not a major fan of armor kits given how restrictive they are, but in this case, I’d be thrilled to have the same set as Fred-104, my favorite Spartan. Here is a proposal based in part on the specialization system from Halo 4:
Name: Danger Close Combat
Requirement: Complete the following objectives in campaign:
- Kill 250 enemies with melee damage
- Kill 100 enemies with the Energy Sword
- Kill 100 enemies with the Gravity Hammer
Reward: MJOLNIR GEN3 (Fred-104 Variant) or Fred-104 Armor Kit
Name: Follow the Rabbit
Requirement: Complete the following objectives in campaign:
- Travel a distance of 5km by sprinting
- Kill 100 enemies with the Bulldog
- Kill 100 enemies with the Sidekick
Reward: MJOLNIR GEN3 (Kelly-087 Variant) or Kelly-087 Armor Kit
Name: Moment of Zen
Requirement: Complete the following objectives in campaign:
- Kill 100 enemies with the Sniper Rifle
- Kill 100 enemies with the Stalker Rifle
- Kill 100 enemies with the Shock Rifle
Reward: MJOLNIR GEN3 (Linda-059 Variant) or Linda-059 Armor Kit
Obviously, the requirements can be changed or adapted, but I felt it was a good idea to base them on the characteristics of Blue Team. Fred was known for his affinity for combat knives, so his are melee-based. Kelly was known for her speed and her traditional loadout was a shotgun and pistol. Linda was a deadly sniper and good at long range. The number of kills can be increased if that seems too small, but either way, I’m prepared to actually earn something substantial, not another coating or emblem just by grinding frustrating multiplayer challenges. In case you want an idea of what their current gear looks like, check the cover of Shadows of Reach. Just a thought.
