343 industries gets it

From all the interviews and everything I’ve been reading, and from Halo Fest videos, etc. I really get this sense that 343i is going to bring Halo back to what it once was. Frankie always seems to mention something along the lines of “You’re going to feel like you’re playing a Halo game” or when in an OXM interview mentioned about a new feature “There will be destructible elements in Halo 4, but don’t look for a game mechanic that relies on that heavily. This is a Halo game at heart.” It gives me chills.

What does “Halo” mean though? For some people it’s Reach, but I feel the majority will agree that true “Halo” are the Halos that have had Chief in them and played accordingly, Reach was a nice little change but I feel that me, my friends, and a lot of other people are ready to get back to that Halo feel from 1,2 and 3.

Maybe I’m just a hopeless Halo fanboy who’s been supporting a franchise he’s loved since 2001 when he got an Xbox. But I like the care Halo has been given by 343i, it deserves a talented staff like them to focus on it, unlike Bungie who is very talented as well and I appreciate made Halo and gave us those awesome games, but had seemed like they really didnt care when Reach was coming out.

All I can do is hope Halo 4 is not only a return of the Chief, but a return of Halo.

Let me know if you guys feel like we’re going to feel like we’re playing Halo again, or just another generic FPS like all the one’s out there right now.

I seriously hope Frankie’s statements are honest opinion and not just marketing tricks to get the fans of the original trlogy interested. But by what we’ve seen this far, it seems like 343i really wants Halo 4 to feel like a real Halo game.

We just have to hope that the future holds good news to us. I have nothing against players who enjoy Reach, but that’s simply not how a real Halo game plays.

Yeah, I couldn’t agree more man.

And yeah, if it does end up being all talk. I’m like gonna have my friend and I sign something legally binding that if Halo 4 really disappoints us like Reach did, then we’re done with the franchise for good :stuck_out_tongue:

Bungie said the same things about Reach.

343 knows there’s a lot of hesitation and suspicion towards them, and all they’re trying to do is lull people into a false sense of security. Obviously they’re not going to say something like “Halo 4’s going to play like CoD” as that’d just tick people off and could possibly harm sales. So whether they’re making Halo 4 feel like a Halo game at heart or not is actually irrelevant as they’ll still be spewing the same comments like “it’s still Halo” and “we get it”. It’s all public relations, my dear friend.

Regardless, saying a game still plays like something at heart usually implies that there’s a lot of changes coming and from an outside observer it won’t look like said game. Funnily enough, even from an “inside observer’s” perspective it doesn’t play like said game. Ala, Reach. Just sayin’.

Yeah, I’m pretty much rationalizing all they’re saying and blowing it out of proportion and turning it into “The games gonna play how I want and it will be good” haha.

Only time will tell, that said, anything new announced and any gameplay im truly going to try and dissect and instead of thinking with the overly optimistic “How will this be awesome for Halo?” I have to since Reach think “How could this ruin Halo?”

Looks like they know what they’ve gotta do for the campaign, which is all that really matters. If they nail that, the multiplayer could have bullet magnetism like it’s Halo 2 and I wouldn’t complain.

well, its about time they bring halo back to the top.

Yeah definitely, if they end up nailing this, and the game ends up being a blast for everyone, old Halo fans, newer Halo fans, and future Halo fans. We’ll probably see this community take a shift (albeit, not a huge one) in a positive direction. I think a lot of people are just frustrated with different mechanics, and I would rather have less updates from now until Halo 4 and have them absolutely WOW us with Halo 4, than have them try to turn Reach into a game everyone loves, and neglect H4.

I also have this odd feeling that 343 is bringing back the origins of Halo. I’m pretty sure they recognized the complete fail that was Halo: Reach. The thing though, that made Halo 2 the best Halo game in the series, was the fact that it was semi glitchable, and it had no game customization. This made us all use our imaginations and create games without forge, such as Lava Man, Troy, Hide N Seek, Zombies, and all. In Halo 2, you joined a new game with your friends and they were playing an old original such as cat n mouse and you loved it everytime you’ve played it. With Halo 3, though, came Forge, and when you joined a new game, everyone was playing some new game where half of the time it was fun, half not.

I kind of rambled away from my point. My point is I truly believe that Halo 4 will go back BEFORE ODST and bring us a true Halo once again. I’m putting all of my faith into this one. Don’t let me down.

Greater customisation is a positive addition and 343 are not going to remove it to pander to some nostalgia-fuelled person who thinks “similar to previous game” and “good” are identical.

Bungie said the same thing about Reach, and lol look how that turned out!

Also, I read an article (can’t provide link sorry, you’ll have to google it)saying that Halo 4 will try to compete with CoD. Which if true, Halo 4 is royally screwed.

I loved Reach and it is one of my all time favorite games, however I know what people mean when they say it isn’t really Halo. Those people will be happy to know that 343 said in an interview that lots of good ideas for Halo 4 have been chucked out because while they were good ideas, they were not good Halo ideas. Or something like that…

I am looking forward to what 343 will do.

Lots of blind optimism ITT.

> Lots of blind optimism ITT.

Yeah, I like to say my best friend and I are like abused wives… no matter how much Halo lets us down we keep coming back. =/

I pray that you are right. Halo 4 has to feel like a real Halo game again just like H2 and H3. That means remove bloom from the Halo franchise forever and burn AAs in fire and never let them come back. All we need is a solid campaign, Excellent multiplayer including dedicated servers or at least a good engine, good netcode just like Reach’s (Not like H3s), and excellent multiplayer maps. And most of all BRING THE BELOVED BR BACK. And there we have an Ultimate Halo game.

I want the old Halo back as well but I also want something new. Reach had the right idea in terms of innovation but it went about it the wrong way. I want a blend of new and old.

Or they could be trying to take “safe risks” with Halo 4 game because of that hesitation or suspicion.

Honestly I don’t know as well and like the OP, I want to stay optimistic. But devs do tend to spew BS a lot of times to keep fans interested.

The question though is: Why would they be trying to lull people into a false sense of security? What changes could they have made that will make fans angry? And why would they?

I feel the same way and just really hope that both

  1. Frankie is a man of his word
    &
  2. Some clueless corporate guy doesn’t come in and mess it all up halfway through talking about how “CoD has airstrikes so we need to too.”

CoD has come in and done it’s thing. They really put out quite a series if you ask me. I never played the first Modern Warfare but i heard it was pretty damn good. The Modern Warfare series has had it’s fun these past 4 years and i think it’s time for Halo to climb back up to the top

I’m getting that feel as well. Every time I hear him say that my confidence grows a little more.
