All this time 343 have been trying to “evolve” the halo formula but apparently they don’t know what evolution means. What 343 are actually doing is changing halo’s core gameplay. Halo has been evolving right from the beginning…
- In halo 2 they introduced gameplay mechanics like dual wielding and boarding while introducing online multiplayer. The golden triangle stayed the same - In halo 3 they introduced equipment and halo staples like Forge and Theatre. The golden triangle stayed the same. - In halo reach they introduced the very controversial Armour Abilities. The golden taringle changed slightly due to a heavy emphasis on AA’s. Whether you loved or hated the armour abilities, Halo Reach still felt and played like a halo game. - In halo 4 they kept armour abilities form Reach but made the TERRIBLE mistake of adding in COD style Loadouts, perks and killstreaks. The AA’s ruined the map flow. The Loadouts, perks and killstreaks made the game feel very unbalanced. The golden triangle acted similar to Reach’s. - In halo 5 the Golden triangle has now changed into the golden octagon. Being honest this is the closest to a generic FPS’ that halo has ever been. The whole point of evolution is by EXPANDING upon the gameplay not competely changing it. Sprint, ads and thruster, etc DO NOT AND NEVER WILL BELONG IN A HALO GAME. And just because halo 5 has even starts does not make it a halo game.
And for those of you 343 fanboys saying : “Halo has to change so that it can stay trendy and stand up to more modern/fast paced games” well here is my answer : NO. Since when did halo have to change? Halo 3 was in the top 3 most played games on Xbox Live FOR 3 WHOLE YEARS until the launch of Halo Reach and this was when games like COD 4 and MW2 were released. And the massive drop in halo 4 and 5s popularity shows. Halo should appeal to halo fans NOT COD/Battlefield/Destiny/Titanfall fans…
This is a highly subjective and opinionated field. It is up for debate, not factual and written in stone. So I must say: thanks for expressing your opinion, but that’s what it is.
Your opinion.
Halo fan here, just checking in. I think Halo 5 represents a natural evolution of the franchise, maintaining the core gameplay that drew me to the franchise over a decade ago while highlighting the parts I thought worked well and addressing the parts I thought didn’t.
Just one man’s opinion though…

But this is the problem! The community wouldn’t be so divided over this topic if sprint and other abilities never existed. The introduction of all these mechanics has split the community down the middle between the people who preferred the original, slow paced gameplay and the people who prefer to see more fast paced gameplay instead of halo fans. BTW, totally understand ur opinion.

Not sure your assumptions would hold up in reality. You really can’t assume a franchise can go 15 years (in video game years that’s a long damn time) and would be just as successful and not split.

Well it definitely is not doing well with the changes now.

Source? What makes you think it’s not doing well? Don’t point me to any popular argument or long-running complaint thread. Every Halo game has had those.

I prefer the gameplay we have now. The developer seems to be doing alright and my friends list is as healthy as it’s been in a long time.
Judging from H4, H5 and to a lesser extent H:R, halo with sprint has clearly failed
it hasn’t generated a new player base and it’s nearly completely lost the old one
time for halo evolve again

It’s not clear to me. I’m not trying to be confrontational, but I find matches within 15 seconds of searching and rarely see the same gamers. H5’s population feels well-sustained ot me. Do you have sources that it’s failed?

None that you would take into consideration
also, just because you can find matchs quickly doesn’t mean
A: everyone can
B: the population is healthy

whatever, this post is so -Yoinking!- pointless. it won’t change anything so shut the -Yoink- up.
Halo 5 is a prime example of the evolution of gaming in general. i.e. Sprint.

Dude, it’s only my opinion. I’m not asking you to agree with me I’m asking you to understand where I’m coming from. Also how many forum posts have actually changed anything?
- We asked for playable elites - they weren’t in halo 5
- Some people wanted a halo game without sprint- halo 5 has sprint
- We asked for KOTH and Oddball to return to matchmaking - both are absent form halo 5 matchmaking
Evolution in Halo 5; hey what about copy and Paste CoD? Let’s make no social playlist, Ultra fast gameplay and TTK, stop that stupid “finished game at release” etc.
Thats “Evolution in Halo”

fair enough… sorry about that I wasn’t thinking clearly
I would have said: You have to have a very narrow definition of “evolution” if you can’t accept sprint or thrust as evolutionary, especially as you’re able to accept all the “heresy” of Reach as not damaging the golden triangle - when there are many who would say that they completely replaced the golden triangle. Gun/Grennade/Melee was, in my opinion, replaced wholesale with AA/Power Weapons/Luck (luck being a reference to reticle bloom).
It’s absolutely true that if a player went directly from CE to Halo 5 then I expect they would find the differences jarring and almost untenable. But we’ve all had a long and gentle path to find our way to the place where 343 has decided they want to be. I made the journey, and while I don’t love thrust, and truly despise pound, charge, and slide… none of these things are game-breaking for me. At least I’ve not had as hard a time adjusting to them as I did to armor lock and reticle bloom.
In the end I feel like that’s the whole point of any video game: let them throw something new at me and see if I can adjust. Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes not. Sometimes I can’t make the transition at all. There are entire gametypes and playlists that I just won’t have anything to do with anymore. But for everything they take away with a questionable decision, they seem to add something new that I generally love, something that replaces my old Halo experience with a different and better one. I can tolerate any heretical game mechanic you care to name as long as I have forge, PvE, and now Warzone. Would I like to have all those things plus no thrust, charge, slide, or pound? Sure. Am I going to storm away like a spoiled child because the dev has introduced things that I have to work around (things which many other players seem to love)? Oh hell no.
