Bungie and 343 made DLC optional in an effort to not exclude those who didn’t buy the map packs, but the end result is they screwed everyone who did buy the maps because they rarely show up in voting. Even with the new “improved” searches, DLC maps show up maybe 1/20 of the time, and even then, they’re often voted down.
I’ve never played more than one game of Breakpoint, Highlands, Tempest, Breakneck, or Ridgeline outside of the premium playlists, which aren’t even around anymore.
I want to get what I paid for, plain and simple. I expected not just one or two new playlists, but an expansion of my overall Matchmaking experience.
There are three solutions. One is make the DLC required, so everyone has it. Another is make the DLC free, so everyone has it. The last is to separate players who have DLC from those who do not.
FORCING PEOPLE WHO PAID FOR DLC TO PLAY WITH PEOPLE WHO DIDN’T IS UNFAIR.
343, if you don’t get your act together as far as making Reach DLC accessible to those who paid for it before Halo 4 comes out, you’re going to lose lots of sales from people like who are itching to give you money.
they should do like they did with halo 3, make the first map pack (noble) free now and make so some playlists requires the map pack to encourage people to download it.
I haven’t gotten any DLC maps for months, it is very annoying since i would like to have more invasion maps to play on.
A DLC-only list would be good to have. Granted it would be a low-population-based list, but it would be better than relying on chance.
For now, the only solution to get matched with those who have DLC is to go find some players beforehand and fill the room up to the appropriate amount for the playlist you wish to get to play DLC maps on.

Might as well be a custom game lobby then, that defeats the point of Matchmaking.

Unfortunately yes, but as it stands it is the only clear-shot way to get on DLC maps without having to go through hundreds, if not thousands, of matches to get on a DLC map only to have the possibility of it out-voted for something like Sword Base or one of the Forge World maps.
I would be thrilled if they made dlc required for some playlists like in Halo 3 so people would actually bother to buy it. The current model not only neglects the value of dlc in matchmaking but it also means that people who don’t have it have no reason to buy it.
Check this out. Even if there’s an 80% chance that every Reach player bought the DLC, and that’s probably far too high, there’s only a 3.5% chance that all 15 other randoms in your BTB lobby have it too (0.8^15). And even then, it’s only 1 option of 4 in a vote.
They need to do something. I still haven’t played an anniversary map out side of the anniversary playlist.
Preimum Battle or whatever the DLC playlist was had a low pop because All the maps were terrible.
Now that we have good maps people will actually want to play the DLC. I never cared about DLC up until these, they are definitely the best DLC maps, if not the best maps in the game.
People are smart though. They haven’t dished out money into Reach to buy the new maps for they know this entire game will be over come Halo 4. That and it is obvious that the DLC maps have not been showing up in MM these days.
I’ve clearly had a different experience than most people. When I play team slayer or swat with at least 2 of my friends we always get DLC maps. But then again it seems like your problems stem from BTB which I cannot stand for the life of me. So yeah, would just suggest playing with a smaller party. Seems to work pretty well for us.
I played Team Slayer on a Anniversary map an hour ago. 343i said that in Matchmaking players with DLC will connect them to other players who also have the DLC.

Yea they did, but because of Reaches low numbers and the even lower amount of people who have the DLC, you will never get DLC. Since the update I have not seen any DLC maps at all, and I have played in a handfull of playlists. It shouldn’t be this difficult to be able to play something I payed for.
I agree, they rarely show up! But im also never wasting my money on that trash because the maps are terrible anyway. I guess theyre OK once you forget about competitiveness and just for casuals but, they are not good for high level play. Dont believe me? How many of them are in the MLG playlist? Or Arena?

So why don’t you go play those playlists and show them how it’s done?
On topic, the DLC rarely shows up. In Invasion, I have over 600 games of both Boneyard and Spire, but less than one hundred in Breakpoint, and most of those was in the Noble Map Pack playlist.

Yep. I played 10-12 games of Invasion in the past two days and not even once did Breakpoint come up in voting.
