343, I want to know right now...

Before reading this please be aware that yes, it is a rant. It is also a rant about Reach. I am posting it in the Halo 4 section because I am posting a question directly aimed at 343. I don’t expect an answer so you don’t need to tell me that.

Is Halo 4 going to have the same, if not a similar Matchmaking system to Reach because if it is I want to know right now so I can cancel my pre-order and be done with it. Halo 4 looks fantastic so far in terms of graphics and design.

Seriously, a pat on the back for your artists. But if the Matchmaking system is ANYTHING like Reach then I would like to know pretty damn soon.

My reason for this is that Reach’s horrible rank system, designed by that prat who won’t be named for obvious reasons, is horrible, craptastic, stupid and downright broken.

How is it that time and time again I can get paired up with the baddest of the bad and be a rank like Nova. That right there is enough to say that…huh…the rank means nothing in Reach. What a surprise.

Why am I forced to get paired up with people who suck so bad it should be illegal. I’m talking about this game…

You cannot sit there with a straight face and tell me those people are anywhere near my current skill level. Believe me, I’m not great at Reach. My K.D is something like 1.3 so why the hell is this happening?

I am trying so damn hard to get back into Halo, but this game sucks the life out of it completely. Everything about the game smells like rotten bollocks, I want to like this game so much but it’s just -Yoinking!- AWFUL.

On a serious note, yes I know. I played alone, silly me right? Does that automatically mean my opinion is invalid? No. I shouldn’t have to be fearful to play the Matchmaking system alone but I do because nine times out of ten I get paired up with idiots due to the failed system.

And, thought I’d say. How can I play the game with friends if none of them want to play it in the first place?

I can’t play Reach alone, people online suck.
Play with friends.
Should I have to?
Uhh, ok…make new friends?

Because you won’t play the game alone.

Well I can tell you one thing for certain, 343i won’t be telling you anything just because you made this thread. You’ll just have to wait, like all of us.

Oh, and I’m sure 343i has seen how Reach was perceived in the general community and will react upon that. The TU showed us that they’re listening (though removing bleed through… what were they thinking)… I doubt they’d simply reuse the matchmaking system after all the heat it got.

The only thing we know as of now is that the ranking system WILL be different, how different, we don’t know.

Just wait for information in the comin months, you have until a few days before the game comes out to cancel your pre-order.

Come back to Halo 3 until Halo 4, man. That’s what I did. I find it much more enjoyable so that’s what I play now.

Also, I really hope there is going to be a 1-50 rank system or some equivalent. People will actually try to win if that is the case.

None of my friends play Reach. They played it for like the first week and hated it…

I have to agree. The ranking system is terrible in Reach. If they do better ranking in Halo 4, then we’re already half way there.

There’s a ranking system in Reach?

Heh, seriously, Ranks don’t mean a thing in Reach as far as Recruit to Inheritor. It’s just an indication as to how much a person has played Reach on that specific gamertag.

If you want to play people of similar skill, then try changing the parameters of the search (for players to be matched up against) to that. It doesn’t always work, but works better than just finding the quickest match or match with best connection.

With exception to Arena, the rest of the play lists are all social, so they aren’t going to be matched up evenly (though they still should be somewhat). And yes, I know Arena wasn’t the best formula for ranked matches, but it’s what Reach has. So either you play that or just grin and bear the rest until Halo 4 comes out.

I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but if you don’t want to be matched up with randoms in a team game, then play Rumble Pit. At least there you can’t blame randoms.

Does it suck that these are the relative few choices (without going into matchmaking with a team of friends)? Yes, but again, it’s what we’ve got. It will get better when Halo 4 comes out. (We all hope for)

Which is why I said I’m not expecting a reply from 343. I am more than capable of waiting for the information as well.

I made the post to get a discussion going. I got what I wanted and more, most people agreed.

I don’t know if it helps, but you are not the only one. I thought you should know this, bro. :slight_smile:

I had once a guy in Invasion Slayer going -50, but he actually played and wasn’t AFK or gave free kills. Top this :stuck_out_tongue:

I bet you if they implemented a 1-50 ranking system or something just like it, people would look past the games flaws. Seriously, 1-50 would help so much.

Oh I’ll wait, but if I hear anything about no 1-50/ranked etc then I’m out. Reach’s system might’ve worked for a few people but look how many people it alienated.
