343, I have a request for Infinite's promotion

343 Industries, I please ask of you one thing to consider for the pre-lauch and influencer promotion of the game: Please don’t give the first quarter or so of the campaign missions to influencers to stream and make videos of. I think we can all tell that this game is gonna focus on the story quite a bit, and I feel it would be such a disservice to reveal so much of the game.

I don’t know about you guys, but I was pretty disappointed with Halo 5 in that aspect. So much of the game was revealed before the launch, and the game in my eyes suffered for it quite a bit. I remember playing those first few missions and not feeling the same “awe and astonishment” I have had with previous Halo titles because of all the footage and gameplay out there.

I didn’t follow H5’s marketing all that closely before the game released. I actually only listened to Hunt the Truth after I played the game. And before you brought this up, I didn’t even know that H5 was partially released so content creators and influencers had early access like that. What I’m getting at is, for me, I was disappointed with H5 because the campaign itself wasn’t very good. The promotional material was definitely an issue, and I agree with you there, but the game itself was the main problem. The promotional material was kinda secondary for me, but I understand that others feel much differently.

I do agree with you to an extent though. If Infinite is supposed to bring back the mysteriousness of CE, then releasing part of the campaign for content creators and influencers would negatively effect that.

Is this a thing that actually happens? I had no idea. That seems kinda dumb, but I guess lots of people these days don’t know or care about the joy of going into a new game “blind”. I remember a few of my friends got Halo 5 before I did, and I had to tell them to shut up about it for a while because I wanted to discover every last detail for myself, even what the main menu looks like.

Here’s my issue. I went into Halo 5 blind, just like I did with every Halo before. I trusted Halo to not have rng and pay to win elements. I wished I had not though, if I was aware of the req packs I would have saved a considerable amount of money by not buying Halo 5 and spared myself an infuriating and tedious grind. I’ll never go into a Halo game blind again.

As for the streamers. Anthem and Apex did that. However it came to light that some had been paid to promote Apex, and in some cases a million dollars was the amount being discussed. So, I would not trust anything those types streamers have to say. However, I’ll happily research everything, and wait for reviews before deciding to buy Halo Infinite or not.

I know how you feel. I still have a franchise or two I trust, and yes… It’s great to explore and find out everything without spoilers having previously ruined it for you. I respect what the OP wants, but I’ll be the opposite on this occasion.

You could just not watch it

I think the opposite the amount of exposure Halo 5 had before launch did bring down a lot of peoples expectations of it being a complete Console changer to just a good Game with story/marketing issues.

with Infinite they need to sell the game as it is and not try to push just one aspect of the game or send marketing promos down opposite end of the story spectrum.

also agree with the influencers any time someone does one of them is as cheesy as it sounds.

I’d rather be an informed customer. There’s been a lot of bad games that’ve gotten these kinds of previews, and while it sucks for the company and those who want total secrecy, its good for the consumer.

If it wasn’t for the god awful pre-release I may have actually bought Anthem or Mass Effect Andromeda!

Maybe not a quarter, but a mission or two I consider fine.

I suppose, in the age of lootboxes and Warzone trying to replace BTB, this is a fair point.

I agree with that wholeheartedly. I actually was thinking that and some of the other things people have brought up too while I wrote this out last night.

I didn’t mean I didn’t want any gameplay footage or mission reveals, just that I didn’t want a big chunk of it floating out there. I would be more than happy if they say released one of the missions for promo at a game expo like e3, pax, gamescom, etc… Because I don’t want to go in blind either, not after the lies of Hunt the Truth and all… which is still a better story than Halo 5 I say.

As for streamers and whatnot, I think it would be better to keep them in the multiplayer aspect of it for the most part. I know I’m probably alone on that one, but like if they get the one campaign mission, and the rest is multiplayer, I think that would be a pretty decent system for promo, because I can’t deny the good they do for the game and keeping it in the spotlight.

I did like halo 5’s ads but story had a major re-write and changed a lot.

Fallout 76 did have so much lies and anthem being downgraded.

I think Infinite is doing fine so far since 343 doesn’t want to give too much before the release, we are going to see lots more in 2020 before release.
