343: Hopes for future Halo 5 forge updates

Hey 343!

First time posting in here, (hopefully it’s the right place) so here it goes. First off, I have to say that I love Halo 5’s forge system that you’ve created. It’s the best out there so far and I look forward to future updates. Scripting and the additions of welding/lighting are absolutely awesome and inspire some serious creativity in the entire community.
That being said, I wasn’t sure where to write this, but I have a list of fun ideas for future maps and current ones, yet I can’t make them without certain additions. I really think that these additions I’ve listed below would make forge really kick–Yoink-. You’re probably already working on them and so far you’ve done an excellent job with the last update. I just wanted to list a few in case they weren’t thought of yet (and community feel free to comment any other ideas here.)

  • With the additions of gametypes like race/infection/oddball/assault there could be some really cool maps/minigame to be made in the community. I’ll only point it out this once in case people are tired of the story popping up everywhere, but adding a race gametype would really let me be able to make cooler Podracing maps
    i.e: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-5-now-has-star-wars-podracing-thanks-to-dedic/1100-6434463/
(Apparently there’s a lack of podracing games in the market these days? Who knew?)

  • I really wish you could weld objects/lights to weapons. Just saying because that would make some really interesting matches.

  • Also, I know you guys have probably looked into it, but I wish welding objects to vehicles didn’t bug out so much. Not to mention issues with grouping, welding and deleting an object causes one of the welded objects to be untouchable forever (have a random ghost stuck in one of my maps that I can’t get rid of…)

  • Wish you could weld the invisible light and fx (like fire) to things and have them move with the parent object. It works in forge mode, but once you’re in custom games it just stays there where it was put (awkward).

  • Wish you could set scripting to select objects, then group and weld them to something else and have the original object still retain its script. (Maybe I just haven’t figured that out yet and someone else has, but that would help me out a lot in games where I’ve wanted to make rotating objects on something moving linearly).

  • Wish there was an “non-touchable” interaction item for a pressure plate (kind of like the scripting head, where you can walk through it). The previous discovery of scripting using a blocker isn’t ideal for what I’d like to make because it acts like a barrier floor and you can’t pass through it. (Thinking trap-door type of things)

  • Maybe for future updates it would be cool to add smaller, globular-type objects to build with. I think that’d be fun aesthetically.

  • Also, again maybe its just for forging podracing maps and welding objects to vehicles, but the weights of objects still confuses me. Same sized/volume objects weigh differently based on the type of object it is or where it came from (at least I’m pretty sure based on welding a small cylinder to ghosts and it causing them to lean forward like an anchor, while a big–Yoink- piston doesn’t cause the same problem) It would help with providing more options to weld with (I’m hoping you don’t mind objects being welded to vehicles

  • I’m probably just a forge brat, but I’d love a higher physics budget. That sucker kills adding more details to most of my maps. (Is there anyway to currently increase it that I’ve missed?) Of course I understand increasing any budget may decrease the game’s playability, so that’s just more of a wish that I could add more objects to my maps (insert whining baby noise) haha.

Those are my thoughts for the moment. Just thought I’d put them out there, but overall what you guys are allowing us to play with in forge is awesome and I’m certainly not complaining, just giving food for thought. Thanks for spending so much time on making forge so cool, especially by making these updates free.

I’ve always wanted the ability to add dead bodies of Marines etc.
Not sure why.

Because for something like a pelican crash or infection map it adds character for it to seem like the multiplayer battle has happened just before something else really important.

They could also be used for semi-competitive maps to point out dangerous area’s that would be faster to go through but are more dangerous, as the body of a marine wearing your team color has proven.

Themeing and pointing the player into the direction of specific objectives or power positions without having waypoints, big arrows on the floor, or color-coating the entire area.
