Note this is coming from a “whale” as far as games are concerned I have put a lot of time and money into several F2P games, in doing so I have found distinct advantages and disadvantages in games as well as ways battle passes have passed and failed.
Bellow is a list of things 343i can do to fix the battlepass and progression system.
- increase XP per game as well as vary it based on skill.
This is the easiest thing to do, as it allows them to make progression feel more viable. The two best ways to do this would be to either. A give XP as score divided by ten rounded up to 10. or 100 XP per every 1000 Score in a match +50 if win.
Both reward skill and it isn’t that hard to get 1,000 score in a match. if you can’t get that you would get a default 50 on teh second.
- Challenge swaps are not a reward
This isn’t to say we shouldn’t be getting them in the pass, users with the pass should get one each level as well as a free one each day. This would just be part of the pass and not a reward track. XP and SWAPS should not be on the pass unless they are lump gains.
- XP gains on pass should be 500 boosts
these should have a double use as well, you can use them for a 500 XP boost to the pass when you get one, or you can use them to advance a facture event 1 level. This makes earning them actually useful. The 2x XP boosts should be gained for doing weekly challanges (not the cap stone the hard ones should give one each.)
- CAP STONE AND WEEKLY CHALLANGES SHOULD BE BOT GAIN OR PVP gain
Ok this is a common problem with F2P games, they force PvP. yet forcing people to grind for challanges in PvP dulls the experence and ruins games. This is why many popular F2P games that have a PvE mode allow challanges to be grinded in them at a slower rate.
To fix this I would simply change the challanges here is an example
Original :get 25 kill with BR in PvP
changed: get 50 spartan kills with BR. PvP counts as 5.
this allows people who like bot matches to play their mode while making it easier for PvP players, 10 kills instead of 25. It is slower for those who do PvE but they can still get it.
As for event cap stones, make sure they can be completed by the average player. I still can’t complete the cap stone for this week. (killing spree in fiesta.)
Events should be moderately dificult for the average player while leaning easy for the skilled player. This may sound useless, but is cuases players to get better in the long run as well as allowing skilled players to earn their rewards with ease.
- Battle pass should reward cosmetics every other level for free and every level for paid.
Even bloody fortnight understands this one, You reward those with it, not force them to grind.
- A dedicated player should only take 3 weeks to complete a 3 month battle pass.
This one may sound strange but 3 weeks for a dedicated player is around 3 months for an average player. This is a pretty standard thing with battle passes the skilled players have them done only 1/3rd through the pass while the payers are done 1 week and the average player barely makes the pass
As halo infinites will not have an end date there can be some shifting with this like 1 month for a skilled player to complete. But the average player should always be able to finish it with out putting 200 hours into the game.
the average battle pass has a play time of 100 to 150 hours, on the long side 50 to 100 hours on the short side. Keep that in mind.
Sorry for the ramble, if they want to be f2p they need to learn it.
oh one last thing.
COSMETIC PACKS SHOULD NOT EXCEED 10 DOLLARS FOR A SKIN
Hell even fallout 76 has learned that in later years.
If you want a 20 dollar pack it should at minimum contain the following
1x full body skin with custom color
1x vehicle skin that fits it
1x weapon charm
4x challange swaps
4x XP grant
and that is a minimum.
