343 have backed themselves into a corner with coatings

Yup! F2P automatically seems to make games worse in almost every aspect. The “better population” arguement is kinda failing now too. As you said, even if they fix most of the game I dont want to play at all because they are over monetizing so much of what I loved about Halo.

This crap is a plague on the Gaming industry, and yet somehow mfers praise it, saying they can’t afford games so F2P allows them to play games they wouldn’t normally be able to. Look, I’m sorry to anyone unable to afford games, but you shouldn’t be catered to just because of your financial situation. Save money like every other human on planet earth.

I don’t think it is too late to change course, refund the credits yes bu the money is already gone into the game either way.

but those credits that were refunded can then be used to buy something akin to a pallet, a selection of colours that we can choose freely, rather than spending a lot just for one preset pattern.

Speaking as one of the people who can’t afford normal games, I still agree one-hundred-percent with this statement. Microtransactions are the bane of gaming.

343 has already shown that they are unwilling to refund credits. Bundles prices have gone down by almost half, yet whenever a bundle cycles back into the store it’s still sold at it’s original ludicrous price. And besides, if we were to ask them about something like this they’d probably just say that it would be too much work o pile on there current workload.

I wish the coating at least had some color presets like ht Emblems do so we can at least have some variety with 1 coating.

well sometimes to cultivate good will, an effort needs to be taken, if not then thats on them.

Them making Coats color customizable still would’ve allowed them to sell the Coats. It’d be different patterns, materials etc. We as players would just have way more freedom with them, which I think matters to many who now refuse to buy single static skins, but would be open to purchasing customizable patterns.

Furthermore, more items to sell doesn’t mean they’d actually sell more stuff. It’s the quality of the items that matter, not the quantity.

Warframe’s Pallet system or Anthem’s material effects that alter the colours with a specific effect making it look like either metal, plastic, a rug etc.

100% Correct.

Warframe also allows colour pallettes to be earned, Xbox and PS themed available for 1 in game credit, Baro Kiteer has a set for purchase with in game credits and ducats, Valentines day gives one away for one credit and one is earned in Fortuna, same with Halloween etc.

Obtaining those pallettes alone gives you many choices, each pallette is 100 shades too. Warframe’s economy is far superior to Halo imo. I accept Warframe sells a huge amount of items, but you can earn huge amounts too.

I would have no issue if Halo f2p offered a similar system.

I swear i was the only one in thd flight complaining about this no one in the forums said nothing they where all star struck about the game they where not objective about it …

That would be the dream, just let me purchase a pallet once that I can then use as I please in combination with other pallet themes ive also purchased, allowing me to actually use em as I please is what’s so appealing

for Halo Infinite the only way this compromise I feel would work would be just with the armour.

The instance the Armor Coats were revealed and i343 said we weren’t able to customize colors anymore, there were quite a few different threads on the subject, criticising i343 for the choices they’ve done regarding colorization, or lack thereoff.
The proponents of it didn’t want to listen, telling the critics that we’d have plenty of options right off the bat, with more to be earned, like, we’d get the fifty Halo 5 basic colors with more to unlock in campaign and through gameplay in Multiplayer and Battlepasses.
The discussion has been had, a lot, way before the first flight.

Desirable items didn’t have to include the basics. Like the most standard of colors, and the entry-level armors that were in previous games.

There was many, many routes they could have gone that gave players customization while also having premium content people would be willing to buy.

and they also had other FTP titles to learn from too…I don’t think they did.

Those being…? I don’t recall any other F2P games 343 made.

No as in other fTP live service games that they could’ve learned from monetisation wise on how to keep a playerbase at least happy in some form.

sorry for the confusion.

Its really amusing in retrospect to think about all the chuckleheads defending this decision when it was announced by pretending that coatings really were an expansion of customization instead of a massive step back and assuring me there would be a huge amount of coatings at launch to make up for the lack of even 2 layer customization.

I’d rather 7 customisable layers than preset combinations thats for certain.

“But we’ll have plenty of Armor Coats to choose from at launch, I guarantee it”
“There’ll be hundreds of coats to choose from later down the game’s lifespan”
“No one will look the same, everyone chose the same colors previously, with these there’ll be more variety”

-We got ten basic colors, and one free HCS skin.
-Maybe there are a hundred skins now, but most are behind paywalls and blue.
-Limited access to skins, and some paywalled skins being special, has made it so that most players do look the same. Sooo, I guess it’s time to remove the least used skins from the game? Considering all the other unused combos which apparently redundant in older Halos?
