If this is true, then Halo will be near dead in a few months, people will lose patience, because of constant disappointment.

But why are 343 continuing down this route? Halo 4 is shaping up to be more of a disappointment than Reach.

It is a huge disappointment to me, and I’d not even an amazing Halo player. IIRC Halo 3 I averaged around 20 with Halo 3 judging me as a 30.
Ranking is an important part of a competitive shooter. It lets you know where you stand in the tier of skill.
I’d be happy with it just displaying BPR now that you can’t pad it in objective games like you could in reach. I would also be fine if it was only visible to me as an indication to myself is all that I need.
I couldn’t care less if others could see my rank.

While i am for ranked OP and a bit disheartening, you need to be aware that unaccomplishedable isn’t a word.
Go ahead and cancel your pre-order. I doubt even competitive players care that you do. I certainly don’t mind not carrying one more random’s backpack.
As for myself? I won’t be missing out of Halo 4’s Campaign or Spartan Ops just because the MP comes up short in regards to rank.

Reach wasn’t that much of a disappointment.
Halo 4 doesn’t have Armour Lock, and it’s DMR doesn’t wreck vehicles, so it can’t be as bad as Reach.
Every time a preorder is canceled a faerie drops dead.

They still push vehicles which is bad enough.

I literally lol’d. This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. That’s what stats are for, it only takes 2 seconds to access someones service record from the lobby.

Im not trying to make a point by cancelling my pre-order, I only cancelled it, because I won’t be playing matchmaking.
You fool. The ranking system isn’t done and is being worked on, it will be unlocked on launch day via TU. if the matchmaking proves to match you with those of your skill level, then you have nothing to be mad about. You also shouldn’t believe some guy saying “Yea my friend works at kotaku, he haz haloe fore and he says it bad for competttititve player” he’s more than likely trying to rile up the community
Yes I agree that a ranking system of some kind is a must in Halo 4. Most people in these forums fail to understand that the lack of ranking system is bad for everyone, not just for those who like competitive gaming. When there is not any skill-based ranking system, this happens:
-Less skilled players get matched with better players, result is frustration for getting roflstomped
-Better players get matched with worse players, and in this case more skilled players gets bored because of the lack of challenge.
Halo 3 handled this well with its ranked & social playlists where i could play basic playlists and find equally skilled players to play with(No I’m not a blind Halo 3 fanboy and I don’t want 1-50 to come back)
In Reach I’m pretty screwed because when I want to face challenging opponents I must go into MLG-playlist which I don’t like at all because imo its settings are bad. Finding game with about equally skilled players is nearly hopeless in Reach.
TL;DR: Ranking system of some kind is needed in Halo 4. This benefits everyone, not just competitive community
