-sigh-
Why are we always giving 343 crap? Yeah, they screwed up by starting the game off light. Yeah, campaign was SEVERELY lacking (that one’s worthy of some backlash). Yeah, the new abilities take some getting used to. But “lack of imagination”? They’ve added in a new enemy. They added in a WHOLE NEW GAME MODE! I’m seeing a good bit of imagination. And did you consider that they didn’t have time to program the Assault map, Sidewinder1996? They may have tried to throw it in for launch, but it may have bugged out one or both of the maps to the point of unplayability. That’s tying up a loose end, not lack of innovation. We have an Assault map for every Warzone map, and then people would complain about them being to lazy if they didn’t put it in. Instead, you’re here complaining about how they “didn’t innovate” BECAUSE they put it in.
As for the lack of other gametypes, they are not listening to the community enough. They’re trying to blaze their own trail (which I can respect), but they shouldn’t be pulling Halo this far off course. It’s been over 3 months since release, and we still haven’t gotten Infection or any of the fun playlists. I haven’t touched Halo 5 in a month, simply because all of my friends have given up on it. That, and Rainbow Six: Siege is really fun.
My point is, they may not be adding in some new and game changing stuff, but that’s not a “lack of innovation”. Given how many shooters are out there in the modern market, we’re almost at the bottom of the barrel for ways to switch things up subtly. With Halo, the new abilities were a way to keep up with -shudder- CoD. CoD barely innovates, and they have the biggest fanbase out of all the shooters (seemingly). 343i tries to actually innovate, and people practically start rioting! I fail to see the reasoning behind it. One game barely innovates for almost a decade and remains a standout in the industry. One studio innovates and gets praise for it, but then any new changes after a new studio takes over are immediately shot down and spat on. Open your eyes people!
Bungie brought in dual wielding, which got cut due to balancing. Forge is a long time favorite, and it’s because people supported their innovation. Armor Abilities (INCLUDING SPRINT), Bungie. BTB, Bungie. Yes, Bungie made some great additions, but that’s because WE DIDN’T SHOOT THEM DOWN BEFORE THEY EVEN SHARED THE FREAKIN’ IDEA! Nobody is giving 343 a chance, and we have stuff like this turning people against them. They keep getting treated like crap, and they’re eventually just going to give up and shut Halo down. And if you want Halo shut down, you shouldn’t even be here. Instead of complaining like this, tell them what you want to see. Give them a chance to throw it in. Halo games keep evolving well into the second and third years of their lifespan, and they turn out great. We’re just unwilling to see 343 as comparable to Bungie, so we’re just shooting down every idea they’ve got.
I am starting to believe that we don’t want 343 to make a Halo better than Bungie did. I just want a good Halo game, and I don’t care who makes it, but it seems like others want the best Halo to be a Bungie production. It’s your right to disagree with me, but it’s my right to have an opinion different from yours. (That last little bit was thrown in due to an inferrence that I was on drugs because I thought “bloom” was a good mechanic)
That’s my theory. Got a problem with it, that’s fine.
