Tim Longo is the new creative director at 343. He was also CD for Republic Commando and Tomb Raider reboot. Josh Holmes, the former creative director, is now the Executive Producer.
It could be good, Based off of the success of both of the games. I personally loved Republic Commando, and I plan to get the Tomb Raider Reboot when the new definitive edition comes to the Xbox One. But judging from how both games turned out, I would say that it’s a good decision. Nothing against Josh Holmes, in the slightest.
Hummm…Interesting. I never played Republic Commando, but it got a decent reception. So, at least the has experience making FPS’s (and a Sci-Fi FPS at that)
Interestingly, he has had experience rebooting a franchise with Tomb Raider. The New Tomb Raider was a good enough game, again, I have not played it.
So, to sum it up, I think he will be good for Halo. He seems to know how to handle established properties with care.
He worked on Republic Commando? Alright, my faith has been restored a little. Also makes me wonder if this means we might get some Blue Team squad combat.
Interesting news. Tomb Raider was a great game, but I will admit something was missing from it. The game itself had WAY too many collectibles (as in, a -Yoink–ton of collectibles) which are shoved in your face, but that fits with the Tomb Raider theme, I guess (treasure hunting). Hell, maybe it means skulls will finally be collectibles again :3
Obviously, the CD is not to blame for all the flaws of their game (and Tomb Raider was honestly a great game, though being a completionist myself made the collecting experience a pain like I haven’t experienced before). So I won’t say the creative vision behind the game was perfect… But the gameplay and mechanics were actually solid, as was the story and pacing- which is great news for Halo. I think he might be a good addition to the team, but only time will tell. Also, people who played Republic Commando will have more valuable insight since it is an FPS.

It’d be interesting to see some actual squad play in a Halo game, an opportunity that was missed in Reach.
Josh Holmes being the executive producer isn’t a good thing, unless I’m misunderstanding his position. He can ask for what ever he wants in halo 5 and this new guy has to figure out a way for it to work. I don’t know if this is correct or not, but if it is, than we haven’t won anything here.
Tomb Raider cut out a lot of bloated mechanics from older games and replaced them with more interesting ones. One of the biggest issues with Halo is the mashup of mechanics. 343 need to cut out fat from both the Covenant Trilogy and the Reclaimer saga.
As much as I loved Republic Commando, I’m staying neutral and out of this “ERRYBODY PARTY!” mentality. Until I see some gameplay I’m still unconvinced.
