343- Halo Reach 2v2 map rotation could really use a change up

Halo Reach and team doubles are my favorite but I cant even stand to play it in MCC because the 2v2 playlist is basically Anchor 9 and Battle Canyon on a loop! My friend a I constantly joke and call it the Anchor 9/Battle Canyon 24/7 playlist because everytime we put it on those are the maps we get.

There are three maps from 360 (that were extremely popular) that are still missing from team doubles. Uncaged, Enclosed, and Treasury.

In fact, oddly, Uncaged, (one of the most iconic Halo Reach maps) is all but missing from MCC. It’s only in SWAT and FFA. It used to be a very popular Team Slayer map as well.

I really want to play Reach 2v2s but the map rotation is missing so many maps and the weighting is so weird.

Unfortunately, these two maps, along with 7 other Forge World maps didn’t make it over to MCC (Affinity, Chateau, Eden Minor, Midas, Precipice, Pulse, & Renova).

You’ll be delighted to know that Uncaged actually appears in Reach 4v4 auto Slayer. You have just been unlucky not to see it yet.

yeah it’s really sad. I have tried to play AR slayer a couple times but havent gotten Uncaged but I have heard it’s in there.

Do you remember a forge map that was only in Reach briefly back I think before 343 took over that was small and took place up on the top flat part of forge world? It had a nade launcher bottom mid in a little zig zag-ish shaped tunnel. I think they took it out because people used to hide out of the map. I vividly remember playing it in Team Doubles but cant find any videos of people playing it online.

Yeah I’m not sure why they only made it auto only here since it was quite popular on OG with DMR starts. And no I don’t remember that map or the name of it sorry.

Thank you for sharing! This helps me out a lot because I’m currently trying to remember all of the older maps that were in rotation in the earlier days, which were then subsequently sunset from the matchmaking pool. So far, with a bit of assistance from someone, I have come up with Atom and Cliffhanger. You may recall these maps?

If you have played a bit of 4v4 on MCC, you will probably have also noticed that Select is in the rotation. That’s another one that was from the early days of Arena, and I think it was then moved to MLG before being retired altogether. I’m really surprised that it made a comeback and was chosen to be apart of the MCC. Especially when some of the others that you and I both mentioned earlier in the thread, that were played up until Reach came to the MCC (and until OG servers were sunset too), aren’t included here.

Yes, I was confused about Select actually. Select was in Team Doubles briefly but was removed after only about a year in rotation. Honestly I was very upset that my favorite maps were removed from Team Doubles but they brought back a map that wasnt even in the game anymore. Additionally the version in MCC is a different version than the one that was in 360 reach as now there’s a wall covering up a hiding spot people used to use. Maybe the version in MCC was the one that is in MLG, but it wasnt ever used in Team Doubles that’s for sure.

I know exactly what you’re talking about. I’ll post a link to a website that has screenshots of how Select originally looked. There might be some valuable and interesting information to you in there. If you click on the spoiler of the old screenshots, you’ll see that this must be the Select you recall from team doubles. Myself personally never played it (that I recall) so I can’t comment, but I can see the differences in the pictures like the extremely high walls surrounding the entire map, and the barriers that prevented you from walking off the edge to drop down to sniper spawn, among others. The current version is the one that was in Arena and I believe MLG. There’s a video on the YouTube of an Arena game on it from circa 2011 that has commentary (https://youtu. be/rKkhwYdzwEQ). (Remove the space in the link). If you listen, he talks about what playlist/s the map was in. My guess is that it was removed from the matchmaking pool shortly before 343 stopped updating Reach and put all their focus on Halo 4. I think there’s even some mention of that in the forum that I linked.

Now that you mention it I have noticed that the rockets on MCC Select (at least in the 2v2 playlist) spawn floating in the air, which is how weapons spawn in MLG playlists. If you’re familiar with the MLG weapon timing power weapons spawning in the air causes them to settle when the game starts which triggers the respawn timer that normally wouldn’t be triggered until someone picks them up. So I think you’re right that more than likely the version of Select that was ported over to MCC was probably the MLG version.

Yeah the same thing happens in with the rockets in 4v4 Select too. I’ve seen it a few times while I’m sniping. I didn’t know that that was an MLG feature as I’ve never been invested in it, but I’ve heard and read about ā€˜dirtying’ enemy weapons which I believe relates to this. Thanks for the information; this puts other things into perspective for me.

I’m going to have to try and keep an eye on the other power weapons (snipers) next time I play it, and see if they behave in the same manner. I’m wagering they probably do.

Yeah Im not sure how you would dirty weapons in Reach but in H3 MLG if you grabbed the enemy’s snipe (or rockets) as it spawns the respawn timer wont start until you stand still again or you die with it. So essentially you ā€œdirtyingā€ their gun means its timer will be delayed and the rest of their snipers (or the rockets) will respawn at a later time. You could get their snipe and stay moving for 60 seconds and then stand still and that will make their next snipe spawn an entire minute later. One reason why I thought Halo 3 was the most unique game. It adds a whole other layer of skill to the game.

I thought it would have behaved in the same way and that these characteristics would have carried over from 3 to Reach. I guess I was mistaken. Maybe the information I was reading was regarding Halo 3 and not Reach.

@CleverCalf23555 A small update regarding MCC’s Select. I played an objectives game for the first time ever on MCC on the map yesterday, CTF to be specific, and noticed a design change. There are walls in place at each spawn where you would normally be able to drop down to sniper spawn, and they differ from the barriers that are present in the original version that we spoke about. I’d say this is an intentional design choice for this variant only to stop people getting away with the flag super fast, but still interesting enough to note.

Wow, I remember that being a thing on the 360 version! I’m having a hard time picturing it but I definitely remember being like ā€œWhy are these walls here suddenlyā€¦ā€ Core memory unlocked moment.
