343 - Halo 5 learning curve is a cliff!

Firstly, Halo 5 is not a bad game - it’s just really hard to be good at.

  • The aiming is a little wonky. - That’s been known since day one - TTK is low for a halo game. - Small weapon reticules - A lot of weapons are now hit-scan - Error carried from Halo 4 - Movement ‘abilities’ make the game-play fast for the weapon sandbox. - Sprint means that you can just turn up and AR as opposed to strafing and out maneuvering them - Australia specific - PING… big ping.’ - matchmaking and the MMR along with the CSR are a little funky. They will often match me (plat 3) with diamond players. All of these factors come together to create an environment which is hard to be skilled in, and easy to be overwhelmed by Players

The TTK for Halo 5 is not that far off from Halo 2’s TTK. H2’s BR is 1.6 and H2’s Carbine is 1.4

Who said hitscan was an error? It’s a gameplay design choice and Halo 2 had it as well. Projectile scans would be terrible if you had poor Internet or a bad netcode, and if you in Australia, you’d be having even worse problems.

Your rank has little to do with your MMR, which isn’t shown to you. Also, going by just CSR, those Diamond players are just under a rank away. Not the worst thing in the world.

yes, but the halo sandbox is based around a relatively low movement speed, not a high paced sprinting and clambering etc. it seems to be conflicted about what it wants to be. Titanfall or halo 1. ttk is not fast enough to work with the fast paced movement like in titanfall, but not long enough to work like halo 1.

My argument is falling appart… can you tell?

Yeah it’s quite steep I would say. The aiming can take awhile to get used to. Before I never really made adjustments to my sensitivity and what not. H5 I have made adjustments.

I’m with OP on the thought that going back to Halo 2 TTK and other things, is a really bad idea.

Halo is not a game where TTK should be fast. It just isn’t meant for it.

Not to mention the “dedicated servers”. The aiming is by far the most frustrating because one game I’ll do absolutely amazing and the next I just choke and can barely muster up 5 kills.

The aiming seems fine to me but the Twitch/Flinch is what bugs me the most in the game, which can make some encounters impossible counter if being flanked from multiply sides.

I find the small reticles to be a very good thing. It makes it feel you have to be more precise.

Agreed I prefer the smaller reticles as well.

Shorter TTK makes it easier to kill opponents for everyone. Thus reducing the skill gap btw.

But as someone stated above “it’s similar to H2s”. I don’t know how true that statement is, but I’ll take his word for it.

I feel the complete opposite I feel like the learning curve is not as bad as previous Halos. I remember playing H3 for the first time and for like 3 months straight I got stomped on every game.

personally i don’t have any issues with the aiming but id like a longer ttk. and i got used to the spartan abilities and stuff pretty quickly

Supposedly they’ve got a fix for the aiming being brewed up, specifically for the “Heavy” aim aspect. Which is why some games you’ll feel like your reticule is actually fighting against you to move and others it feels slick as butter.

Or…Make the ideal TTK fast (below 1 second) while having the weapon be hard to use, whether by using projectile bullets, minimal bullet magnetism and sticky aim, etc. It works wonders in CE.

Halo CE (some weapons), 2 and Reach also use hit-scan. So I guess Bungie made that error in Halo 2 & Reach.
