343 GUILTY SPARK's namesake: Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

Alright, we all know that 343 Industries’ name is a homage to Guilty Spark. But about a month or so ago I found out that 343 firefighters died on September 11th (I was pretty young when it happened so I didn’t know this detail until recently).

I seriously doubt that this is coincidence. Sep 11th occurred about two months before Halo’s release. Shipping and printing doesn’t take too long with industrial tech, so they likely would’ve had the time to make a change. I’m pretty sure that there’s only two instances of “343” in Halo:CE–the mission name and whenever GS introduces himself to MC. I don’t Imagine it’d be difficult to change two instances of something in less than an hour.

Google searches did not yield anything. When I searched “343 firefighters halo” or something it only brought up how 343 changed halo’s firefight to have unlimited lives sometime ago.

Does anyone else think GS’s name might have been homage to the 343 firefighters?

It’s a 7 reference, and yes, 2 months to change something like that is huge.

I think you’re reading too much into this.

Guilty Spark is the monitor of installation 03 => 7^3=777= 343
Penitent Tangent is the monitor of installation 04 => 7^4= 2401

Guilty Spark is the monitor of installation 04, or Alpha Halo.
Penitent Tangent is the monitor of installation 05.

I’m doubtful of your 343 theory.

If anything it is a biblical reference. Cause y’know, the Bible is in everything.

Yeah, it’s just a coincidence. Sound moves about 343m/s in air, but that doesn’t mean Spark got his name because he loves the sound of his own voice.

Allow me to add that the game goes gold about a month before it ships. So your two month window is really only one month.

I read about this but didn’t connect the dots. Pretty cool if its a legit seedling. I think I’m going re-look up the article.
