343 got Halo 5's controls wrong

I don’t know about you, but I cannot get comfortable with Halo 5’s controls. Halo 4 had the best controls ever. It should’ve had you hold the Left Bumper + Right trigger= frag; Right bumper= Sticky; Left trigger= Splinter. Press the Left bumper for Thruster pack. B for crouch, and it should’ve had you press the Right stick to stabalize so you don’t have to use Smart-link to use it, and if the D-pad could have worked the Bubble shield, the only Equipment in the game (Halo 5 would have been the ultimate chance to bring it back) that way they’re not wasting buttons on the controller. Those controls would have been so much better, I don’t know what else to say. Yeah… It probably wouldn’t translate to other control types very well but I’m not going into that.

Are you, are you suggesting different controls for each grenade? No to that. My main issue (I play on recon) is that changing grenades is awkward when you are moving. I have no clue how they would fix that though, but its a minor complaint. I am fine with the rest of the controls though. I can’t imagine any reason for different grenades to have different buttons though

Seems like your problem is personal preference, an odd one. H5’s controls are good to me.

I hate that ADS is on LT. Descope makes it feel super clunky. Thruster on B sucks too because I like to have my thumb on the stick so it’s not jarring coming back to the stick. I like the Halo 4 button layout the most.

Y’all can remap buttons in the settings of your Xbox One if you really want to adjust the button layouts, just be careful since it applies everywhere.

Not to the extent you are thinking, you can completely remap them with the elite controller though.

You don’t have to use the standard Halo 5 control scheme. They have plenty of options (I myself use Recon).

Really? We’re complaining about the control scheme now?

aside from the myriad of different controller settings (none of which are WRONG necessarily) buy an Elite controller and program it to your heart’s content. Next.

Shhhh. People need something to complain about since there is nothing left.

There is still plenty to critique.

The controls are fine with me.

Are you really suggesting requiring two button presses to throw grenades? And one of those buttons is also the thruster, meaning you need a system that allows for an immediate thruster use while also giving you enough of a window to get that simultaneous grenade throw button press in? That’s a disastrous idea.

Y’know, if Halo 5’s default control scheme is that bad, you could just switch to one of the other options 343 has provided. Hell, Halo 4’s controls are there. It’s even called Halo 4! I use it because I couldn’t remember which button is supposed to do what with Halo 5’s default.

I was about to jump in defence mode if this mentioned Halo 5’s Forge.

How are people going to hold the left bumper and the left trigger at the same time without screwing themselves up? Having to hold two buttons to do something isn’t going to be good especially when you map your firing and grenades to the same button. I think it would just slow things down and cause more unintentional mistakes.

I personally liked the Recon layout on Reach. With the modern Halos, there are just too many button commands and not enough buttons.

I don’t use the default controls. I use the Halo 4 control scheme. It still have left trigger grenade, A to jump, and right stick to zoom, X to reload, Y to switch weapons (like since CE before Halo 3 had to go jack it all up) … but the other changes are nice for me: left bumper thruster, B crouch, D-pad to switch grenade. It’s the same set up I use in MCC and Reach (and since I have an Elite Controller I can map Reach so the grenade switching and crouch match as well).

OP, you can change stabilizers. Go to settings and switch it to where they’ll only turn on if you hit Right Stick while in the air. Then you can control when they turn on and off. That way, they’re not linked to Smart-Link

Buy a elite controller if you need more costumization then offered by the game. For myself i play with original xb1 controller on normal setting and see no issues with it

I love my Recon controls

Granted I’d also love to tweak some things if I had an Elite Controller…but bills and notes

That’s why clawing exists or buying a Scuff/Elite.

Recon controls w/ Elite controller… 1 left paddle mapped to melee/Ground Pound. Perfect.
