343, friendly combat indicator suggestion.

Hey There,

I haven’t seen much discussion on this, but I’ve come to miss the old way the friendly combat indicator was displayed in previous halos. That is, ALWAYS visible on your HUD when your teammates were engaged(Taking fire, receiving fire) no matter where you were looking. So if someone was behind you, you could see the indicator as Red or yellow depending on if they’re shooting or being shot, on the very bottom of your screen.

Here’s a video showcasing what I’m talking about. You can see a teammate taking fire(red) and then returning fire(Yellow) even though the player isn’t looking in that direction.

This has always been something that allowed you to easily keep track and stay coordinated with your teammates. I don’t know if this wasn’t included because of an oversight, or if it was intentionally removed because it was visual noise or some other reason.

But do you think we’d ever see it’s return? With the adjustment of the red X’s I would like to believe that certain HUD elements are modifiable?

What do you think?

I think it’s a good idea to bring this back and I think it would be possible for 343.

Halo Reach MM?

Yah man it was in reach

I would love to see it, I remember how quickly you could react to a teammate taking fire, now you don’t know if they’re in trouble unless you’re looking in their direction or they call out. But really, you don’t want someone calling out every single time they take a hit.

LMAO.

I played 13000 Halo Reach MM games…after six months of Halo 4, I hadn’t noticed it not being there!

H4 HUD pros and cons (I’m posting this with mostly Campaign in mind)

Pros:
-bobbling (immersion)
-helmet (immersion)
-more detail (immersion)
-character facial appearances (immersion)
-Cortana rampancy effect (immersion)
-grenade indicator
-UNSC weapon HUD is diverse
-Forerunner weapon HUD is cool

Cons:

-no secondary weapon icon cuz clutter (no sense)
-primary weapon icon still there (redundant)
-detail is purely aesthetic (compared to ODST/Reach Compass)
-still light blue (not the best choice in bright environments)
-Covie HUD was better as blue
-no customization
-no red X (recently implemented?)
-no apparent friendly combat indicator (atm, you just see the gamertag flashing)

haha, yah it is easy enough not to notice if you didn’t really use it a whole lot. Personally I miss being able to instantly adjust my route to help team-mates out when I see they’re taking fire.

This REALLLLLY became apparent when I started playing Multi-team and I would spend up to 5 seconds looking around just trying to see where my team-mate was lol

This is one of those mind-numbing “why would you change that?” things everyone talked about around launch but just sort of accepted as is. Last night I was trying to train myself to pay more attention to my teammates indicators and I found doing so was at the expense of my normal state of awareness. It’s way harder to keep track of your teammates in this game than it is in every other Halo.

I’d love to see this addressed in a future update.
