The Viking map is horrible. Halo 5’s new combat does not suite this kind of level design; wide open spaces do not compliment the finessed new combat design that Halo 5 features. What’s the point of high mobility spartan abilities and skillful play when snipers dominate and rule the roost?
Fire whoever made this monstrosity and hire a real designer. Hire one who will make maps that suite the game; not one that makes nostalgic revamps to try and appease veterans despite the map not fitting the gameplay at all. Stop it with the lazy forge contributions from amateurs; get an actual designer.
Isnt it a community map? How does one fire someone who didnt have the job in the first place?
yeah its a community made map. 343 is just showing everyone the AWESOME maps that members of the halo community made. I really like Viking, ive only played it twice with a handful of BTB games played but i enjoy it. can’t fire a member of the community, sorry bud. deal with it
Go rant to No God Anywhere then go make a better map… until then, stop complaining.
Its a tough map to play in Halo 5 initially but after a few games on it there is very little to complain about other than the lack of ocean at the end on the canyon!

There’s plenty to complain about, mostly relating to the fact that a map designed for Halo 3’s weapon balance won’t work very well in Halo 5. The 2 are drastically different. Then again, we have no less than THREE Halo 3 remakes in BTB right now and none of them play well. Why? Probably for the same reason every new map absolutely must be polluted with the Halo 2 BR: nostalgia. It’s not tough to play. It’s tedious.
TL;DR: Halo 3 maps play like garbage with easy BRs and easy snipers. You can’t move out of cover and you can’t use any vehicles either, unless the enemy team is awful. The massive open spaces are completely pointless.

Lazy?
In this case, I can rightfully say, go make it your self, LOL.
The maker of Viking browses these forums. It’s only a matter of time before he sees this, lmao.
This is one time I’ll agree with the fanboys and their “-Yoink!- either way” arguments. People have been begging for classic BTB maps and it’s not his fault that the mechanics don’t transfer over well.
As a suggestion, maybe the issues could be somewhat alleviated with more lazy cover in the form of boulders, or better yet add more hills so infantry is covered but vehicles aren’t necessarily crashing into cover all the time.

Blame 343 for screwing the gameplay so badly that Halo 3 maps can’t even be played.

I like the map, get better.
Yeah! Fire that guy that doesn’t work for you!
other maps with more cover do fit halo 5’s gameplay better, but it’s not that bad how you describe it. It’s similar with basin, you have to avoid and counter the snipers. It just seems like you got your -Yoink- handed on viking and then came here to complain about it
Beatiful map identical to no god anywhere’s or the other way around I’m not sure.
Fire him? I want to buy him a beer.
Other maps that provide coverage fit better?? Lol isn’t that why you guys hate torque
It’s a near perfect remake, which might be why you feel it doesn’t suit Halo 5’s mechanics
Fire the community! Screw maps if they are not specifically tuned for high mobility (smaller). Who would want diversity?
Lol. Personally, I found the map quite balanced. The banshee is a very welcome return considering not many maps have it readily available.
valhalla h3, ragnarok h4 and viking h5 are all the same map, oh and i think there is a version in reach as well. its been a community favorite for years. it is great to play it. and yes the snipers rule, just be -Yoink!- smarter then. get the sniper, take the edges and snipe them from an angle they dont expect. this is a proper btb map. like it has always been. tho the h4 is my fave with the mantis. there are heavy variants with wraiths and scorpions as well. you’d be happy there are open spaces when there are 4 tanks, 3 manti and 3 banshees on one map of that size. its FUN its CHAOS.
