I’m going to try posting two topics per week. One, a 343 fail, the other, a 343 success. Today’s will be a 343 fail.
This week’s social Arena playlist is Social Snipers. Contrary to past Snipers playlists, this one featured both Arena maps AND BTB maps. This sounds great and all, but 343 failed to remove vehicles and turrets from the map somehow. They decided to remove radar, but left all vehicles and turrets on the map. I played a Social Sniper match on Recurve the other day and the other team won, with the top person on that team having 18 kills. His tool of destruction was a turret. He had 1 sniper headshot. Whereas I had 19 kills, 17 of them sniper headshots, but my team lost. Guess we should have had someone pick up a promethean turret in SNIPERS. Lol, the only thing I like about it is getting the Buckle Up medal for sniping someone out of a vehicle. But I’d rather a Snipers gametype be about sniping, not about using vehicles or turrets.
What wrong with vehicles? You hear them across the map so just snipe them off for that “buckle up!” Medal. Also people who JIP do get a radar but players who started the game do not. The turrent is the same thing as vehicles, he exposes himself to assault you, so just pick him off.
I rather enjoy the snipers mix up, since it’s social and not suppose to be sweat hard.
They didn’t “Fail to remove vehicles and turrets from the map somehow.”, they left them in purposefully. it’s even in the playlist description.
Who knows, maybe this new addition is a test for future community maps that are more proper for it, to see what people think of it and to see where the balance lies on the sniper vs vehicles and turrets, and probably to gauge other stuff relating to the interplay between all of these. They’ve obviously been able to collect quite a bit of information on how we play and make adjustments based on that information. (Removal of Urban, Railgun being hitscan and not shot-led, adjustments of Blue Team color so it doesn’t have the edge on some maps)
They’re probably also doing it for variety. It’s clearly not the conventional Team Snipers we’re used to, but that doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing.

Well if they get in a Wraith or a Banshee, you can’t exactly snipe them out. And a Snipers gametype is suppose to be about sniping, whether it’s ranked or social. I don’t know what JIP means. I never said I was sweating hard over it or anything, I just thought it was ridiculous that the top player on the winning team didn’t use a Sniper to get the majority of his kills on a SNIPERS gametype.

Agreed. There was another playlist (forgot what it was) where there actually was an issue but 343 fixed it in hours. I don’t think they’d forget to remove vehicles unless they wanted to. plus it’d be a quick easy fix if it really was unintentional, simply copy another version of the btb maps but delete the vehicles.

Well none of the maps had player closed vehicles (correct me if I am wrong) so the ghosts, gungooses were intentional. And if some guy got too many kills with 1 head shot, you shouldn’t let that get under your skin. I seen people win swat games with melee hits only. Does it happen every game? Nope, but it still does happen and that should be okay.
Now if they pulled some h2 bs like breaking out of the map and sniping everyone then yea I can see your concern.

If it’s not conventional snipers, it shouldn’t be called “Snipers”. It’s quite annoying to be trying to snipe people far away and then a ghost comes at you, taking your attention, and one of their teammates kills you from afar while you’re focused on the ghost. The vehicles being on the map is just annoying and distracting from what the gametype is suppose to be about.
I think they are their to give people who cannot use the sniper perfectly everytime, I mean it is called SOCIAL snipers, even if its not truly social.
I did a match of it, I suck with the sniper, I got like 8 kills that game, two of them were from the ghost. I think they are there as a bit of back up.

Not to be that guy, but, what else will you call a mode where your only weapon is a sniper? “Social Long ranged weapons with vehicles”?
its not called team snipers, its called social snipers.

Entombed has a Wraith. Guillotine has a Banshee. That’s different. Meleeing is part of the Halo sandbox, you can’t remove it. When making a gametype called Snipers, it should be about Sniping skill, not using vehicles. That’s what normal BTB Slayer and Warzone is for. Snipers, even Social Snipers, should only be about sniping(and spartan abilities as always of course).

If you’re not good with the Sniper and don’t want to use it, don’t play a gametype called Snipers. A Snipers playlist should force you to use the Sniper, even if you’re not good with it. That way you can get better with it, and then take those skills to ranked Slayer.

I never got those maps when I played. So I will agree that having those vehicles are wrong since there is no sure way to snipe the driver out in one shot.

Yeah because they can’t come up with names like Fiesta or Lightning CTF for gametypes. They’d have to call it “Social Slayer with random starting weapons” and “Capture the Flag with Light Rifles, no shields, damage increased, and speed increased”. Lol, they could come up with another name for the gametype if they wanted, but Snipers + Vehicles is just not a good idea for a gametype.

thats not what I mean, first off, its not team snipers, its social snipers, second off, I don’t have to play competitively every match I play, maybe I want to get some commendations done. I also never said I don’t want to use it, What I did say is that the vehicles being there acts as a bit of a last resort for the lesser skilled sniper users.
Again, its social snipers, not team snipers. even if people don’t play it socially.

A banshee blows up by like 4 shots stop being bad instead.

but its kind of a no brainier name, even if vehicles are present, its a mode where your only weapon is snipers, why would they call it anything else but snipers?

Omg your team must have been a bunch of blind thumbless babies if you lose a game when someone slowly walks around with a turret. The guys who are the better snipers win the game everytime. You’re just shaming yourself
