343 Drops the Ball (again) - WEAK Jan. Update

Keep in mind this post is all my opinion, last post I got a lot of criticism with how much I hated on 343

I have just about lost all respect for 343, they haven’t shown that they know how to prioritize needed changes into the game, many of which that should have been in the game Day 1. 343 has grown to become a shady company - a bunch of half as*'s who claimed they worked on this game for over 3 years and yet this game has the SMALLEST amount of content.

Everything from False advertising in regards to the ‘greatest hunt in gaming history’ to the '2x the length of Halo 4 campaign’. From stating the game would have 6 warzone maps at launch, to chief going ‘rogue’ and becoming AWOL. Aye, story isn’t that great, but at least 343 delivers in bringing a long, rewarding campaign, right?? -No. - I feel as though the community deserves an apology. It’s ok to admit you guys screwed up with the no splitscreen call. It’s ok to admit you guys totally underestimated the backlash of that decision from your franchise. someone, or something f 'ed up when making this game. It’s as if they had this great story in place, a story that fit all those ads they made, and then something screwed up and they had to change the story last minute.

But i’m going off topic… Recently 343 released some info about January Update, and it’s not what anyone was hoping for. Another step back, not forward.

Here’s everything we know that will be in this update

  • New skins - ‘Needle Rifle’ -more like a red carbine that shoots pink - Mark 5 Armor - Double XP weekends? - ONE new Arena map -*many are saying it’s just a Fathom Remake…*And that’s it.

Some of you may be happy with that, but that’s not the decisive update 343 needed to bring to the table. Translation: There will be no new gametypes this January Update.
Yes, 343 did say they are working on a few, such as greifball and ‘fiesta’, but where’s Infection?? Where’s Oddball? KOTH, Assault, Snipers, Doubles. Almost 3 months into launch, and we still have 5 gamemodes. No infection, no race, no nada.

This is why some of the fanboys in this community need to stop sucking up. We need 343 to feel pressured in getting these gamemodes out, and if there’s not enough people demanding for them, then 343 will take their time and make a gamemodes update in June. After all, 343 never specified which update would have a gamemodes update - Just that it would be in the ‘future’. AKA: Not the January Update.

We need to come together as a community and help 343 understand, because they really are not listening. Just give us the gamemodes 343, it’s so weird that you guys are so against it. We have forge, now give us the gamemodes to let it shine. You literally have doubles and Snipers all ready to go, just make them permanent gamemodes PLEASE! It’s great that we can make our maps prettier, but Jeese! **LISTEN to your community!**We want GAMEMODES not more reqs, We want GAMEMODES more than we want more Armor! The potential is there but you guys are lazy, you guys want to do things your way and there’s no recognition. You guys have no idea how hard your butchering the game, without functionality there’s no point. For everyday there’s no gamemodes to interest new and old fans, your killing off your population numbers and before long it’s Halo 4 all over again. This was kinda the last straw for me, which is why I have no respect, no hope you guys will turn it around. Whether you like it or not, it’s unacceptable we STILL don’t have the Gamemodes that needed to come in Day 1.

I said the same thing the other day. They may have switched offices, but that is NO excuse for not giving us a single new permanent playlist this month. They literally already have Snipers and Doubles ready to go. Just PUT THEM IN AS PERMANENT. Or stop making weapon skins and work on the new gametypes. Seriously? Grifball needs so much balancing that you can’t crank it out in a month? I think most people can forge a map for grifball in an hour. And the gametype is basically as simple as it gets. Neutral bomb is basically the same game as neutral flag with different aesthetics. The only other difference is spawning with gravity hammers and energy sword spawns! If you took 3 or 4 people off of designed mongoose skins for a few days you could have the gravity hammer ready in no time!

The incompetence is unbelievable.

Griffball is derived from Assault…

So there’s a chance we are getting Assault if 343I isn’t completely incompetent.

Agreed 343 does NOT know hot to run a game. The only reason they’re still in business is because of the title Halo. They need to get there -Yoink- together and quit lying and bein shady and secretive.

I don’t think they released all the info yet. Wait until its out.

There is nothing shady or secretive about how 343i operate. The Jan update IS on the short side, content-wise, but here we are talking a schedule that includes monthly, FREE, updates. You really cannot expect huge content dumps in such a small time frame. Even for gametypes you have to have extensive play tests and balancing before they are put online. It’s either short but frequent updates or having a bigger update every 3 months. You can’t have both.

Creating a skin is easy, just paint over a pre rendered template.

The gravity hammer, assuming it hasn’t been programmed in at all, requires a bit more intricacy than that. You have to account for how it’s on use will affect players, and objects, as well as add subscripts within the physics engine for every single movable object to react accordingly. Otherwise you’d just have a melee weapon that hits stuff without the fun factor of knocking the living -Yoink- out of everything around you.

Does that make it acceptable? No.

But don’t be so pretentious to presume that it’s something that can be slapdashed together in an afternoon.

Couldn’t agree more man, they just choose not to put them into the game.

So your saying it was totally cool when they released trailers of Chief becoming the bad guy, trailers of Chief betraying the UNSC and going AWOL, trailers of him vs Locke in the destroyed city. Wouldn’t you call those a little misleading? A little Shady??? Yeah. They are a shady company, and there’s clear proof.

100% agree. 343 is either deliberatly withholding content from the game and slowly dishing it out in a failed attempt to keep the population high or is just a horribly incompetent/lazy developer. Halo may still be my favorite game franchise but 343 is by far my least favorite dev which is sad.

Google “bait-and-switch”. Ain’t nothing shady about that. A whole game of Locke chasing the Chief around the galaxy would’ve been awesome…but would have had little value in terms of progressing the story. The story we got did that more than any Halo game since H2.

“Free updates” that are most likey content cut from launch… the things these “free dlc” come with are things the game should have launched with. There is no denying that. So how you can sit there and defend them is completely beyond me.

Agreed

This is making my soul cringe.

OP, everything you said is right on the money. Can’t really be said any better.

By all means, do show me that proof you have that additional content provided in the DLCs is stuff that was cut from the base game. 343i aren’t perfect special snowflakes who can do no wrong and they did do some missteps with how Halo 5’s launch was handled (mostly lack of certain gametypes and lack of social playlists) but they have been fantastic with listing the user feedback and providing support for their game. Critique is fine, but credit should be given where credit is due.

I agree. 343 think that by doing this, they’re prolonging the game’s lifespan, but on the contrary, they’re just spreading it thin, so when they do add the game-types, hardly anyone will be around. While I like 343 for many of the things they do, this is just getting ridiculous. I’m also glad you have legitimate criticisms for the game, unlike the incompetent fans who think they sound smart by complaining about trivial things like the game not being Halo 2 or whatnot. You need to critique a game for what it is, not for what you want it to be.

I gave up with the 6 Warzone maps bit. They couldn’t even be bothered to make a Warzone Assault version of the new Warzone map.

Not to mention BTB maps.

How can you say there’s no denying that when you have no proof, and while you may be bored there are others that are still enjoying the game. That doesn’t make them 343 fanboys, it just means they like halo 5.
