343 dropped the ball on this one - Flag drops

I don’t understand why you can’t drop the flag anymore. There is no tactical or skilful merit in removing the option to abandon a flag carry. Ask yourself: How does not being able to drop a flag make mine and others’ Halo 4 experience better?

I think you’ll find there is no good answer to that. Seriously, 343. This is just an oversight of better judgement, please put that basic option back in the game.

343 can’t drop the ball though, they disabled that feature.

It would encourage skillful and tactical gameplay. Also, it’d encourage teamwork.

But there’s only one problem with this; eventually people’d stop picking up the flag. That’s why I hope it’s not in the game.

We don’t know much details yet. It could easily just be absent from the build, tied to certain gamemodes, etc. Just wait until the PAX panel for Halo 4, it will all be explained then.

It encourages people to actually run the flag, that coupled with the ability to use a pistol whilst carrying the flag means that there is an incentive now to carry the flag. Is that a good enough answer for you?

idk man, you can carry a pistol with unlimited ammo, and it also looks like you don’t get slowed down as much when holding it. Also it promotes going into and leaving the enemy base as a team. I wouldn’t say this feature makes it worse, but different and fresh. Looks fun to me.

LMFAO. However you can throw the ball…

This is just one of the many gameplay mechanics 343i have “dropped the ball” on. Not being able to drop the flag is one of the stupidest things I have seen in any Halo game. What happens when I need to switch to my main weapon to fight someone? Do I just stand there and shoot my secondary hoping I kill him?

Yes…

Isn’t that the point of holding a pistol as well, so you don’t have to drop the flag to fight.

You cant drop it but you can pass it to team members.

You can pass the ball to other players.

YEAH PRETTY MUCH THAT.

In Halo 2 - Reach where there WAS the option drop flags and when you ran the flag you had NO pistol to shoot with the general consensus was that flag running was okay.

I mean, I’m okay with having a pistol while running the flag, that boosts my confidence and encourages me to take objective rather than stat pad. I’m not okay with not being to drop it because it makes me not want to commit to picking up a flag because I’m scared of this happening. (this is some seriously clumsy gameplay that I have no doubt would’ve been smoother had Bravo been able to drop his flag).

Do you see how the two design choices cancel eachother out? Pls into fixing 343

Anyone that says that this will encourage teamwork have no idea what they are talking about.

The pistol doesn’t seem as powerful as it did in the other games, I doubt it would match up to a primary weapon in a 1 on 1 fight.

Feel free to discuss this further in this thread

Once again people are assuming things. Look, we don’t know for sure if this will be permanent in the full game. Also, there have already been a bunch of threads about this.

I get it, though. You’re concerned.

They say “your a super soldier! you should be able to sprint!”

I say “Your a super soldier! you should be able to drop a -Yoink- flag!”

Come on 343… -_-
