It seems like 343 doesn’t want the Master Chief in their Halo to me. They had to use Master Chief for their start, just because his popularity. They created Spartan IVs to replace original Spartans and Master Chief. The most hated thing was Master Chief had only 3 mission from Halo 5. Numbering series suppose to be a story of Master Chief and it has to be Master Chief’s view. Why did they inserted Agent Locke to hunt down Master Chief? Why did they put Master Chief AWOL? I cannot understand the motive of his AWOL. Instead of Fire Team Osiris, Blue Team could retrieve Dr. Halsey. After the retrieval, Dr. Halsey could tell John about Cortana and John and Blue Team could’ve went to investigate Dr. Halsey’s theory of Cortana as their “official mission”. I believe Master Chief’s story is going to end in Halo 6. I’m fine with that, he cannot lead Halo forever. But, 343 should have done in different way. Master Chief looked so dumb in Halo 4 and 5 unlike CE, 2, and 3. I hope 343 ends his journey by making Halo 6 as the best Halo, the best game in the world.
Edit: I change the title
Edit: I don’t mind if Master Chief’s story is end in Halo 6 or not. There many characters in Halo. I love Halo, because it’s gigantic universe like Star Wars. I never said I do not like Jameson Locke. He is cool guy, who was former ONI agent (I’m hoping he is being called “Agent Locke” than “Spartan Locke”, agent sounds cooler. I want him to be an agent of ONI again). I’m trying to say 343 made bad campaign on Halo 5. They destroyed the image of Master Chief from previous Halos in my perspective.
They do not hate the Master Chief, but I’d also say I don’t think 343 really knows what they are doing with the story moving forward and that has an effect on how the Master Chief is portrayed, incorporated and, ultimately, replaced.

Keep in mind that Chief was manipulated by a rampant eyeball and giant fly trap (now a thing of nightmares) in the original trilogy and barely said a word on the subject at hand.
Yeah it’s sad what they’ve done to him. I don’t think they hate him. How can any true Halo fan? But I think they want to make there own mark, there own super hero in the franchise and try to get out from under bungies shadow. Which is a wrong approach. I just hope that when they do get rid of chief it’s done with a classy bada$$ way. And I hope they keep him around in books, comics, and even games even if he’s not playable. Put him in some higher ranking role.
343I hates anything that Bungie did including the MC, after all it seems they are going great lengths to re design, remove or destroy anything Bungie ever did so they can stamp their own seal on every aspect of the game.
I feel like they completely destroyed Master Chiefs character. Originally, Bungie portrayed him as this awesome bad -Yoink-, who let his actions speak for him. He didn’t need to depend on teammates, or require much assistance. Now, everyone is like, “Oh chief, so weak and helpless.” In addition, in halo 5, it seems like they were trying to make Locke a main main character. Hopefully Halo 6 won’t be the end of Chief as you suggested. I’m a big Halo fan, but if 343 kills and/or replaces him, i’m out.

I heard 343 confirmed that Halo 6 is last journey of Master Chief, not my suggestion.

This, and good luck to us Spartan III fans
I really wish 343 had kept the story line that they were marketing Halo 5 to be with either Locke or Chief ending up killing one another with Chief really betraying all he knew and fought for, not a rampant AI trying to take control of the galaxy to overthrow organics we already have that its called Mass Effect not Halo. I would rather have had a story where Chief died at the end rather than what happened

You hit that nail on its head.
It just seems like 343i are flying by the seat of their pants, having no real vision/direction they want to take Masterchief or this franchise.
And who thought it was a good idea to create this Locke character?
343 hates anything associated with bungies halo
why do you think they have been fighting so hard to change nearly every aspect of the game?
they don’t want to live in bungies shadow so they are trying to make halo their own thing
and in order to do that you have to kill off the old things
I prefer 343’s portrayal of Master Chief to be honest. A lot more mature, and he’s a character I feel I can connect with now. He’s still a human not this ultimate killing machine so many ‘fanboys’ want him to be.
343’s portrayal of the Master Chief is better than what Bungie ever did. There I said it.

Now he’s manipulated by a rampant AI called Cortana…

But the way 343 portrayed him was a man following love by risking everything.
Halo used to be a campy, action filled, epic with witty dialogue and funny characters. A lot like Star Wars in a lot of ways. 343i have made it more of a drama with almost no humor and with an undertone of true love.
Sargent Johnson made me laugh out loud. Palmer sucks.
I really do think that 343i are having a hard time trying to tell a personal story with a man who has no face, and that’s why I think he will die in 6. The kind of story they want to tell doesn’t work with a character that was originally designed to be a faceless, voiceless body for you to run around in and blow up aliens.
Master Chief has always been a team player, whether anyone wants to acknowledge that or not. The fact that Halo: CE was set up to make MC a lone wolf hero is due to the fact that the game was intended to be played solo from a story perspective. Marine and Naval personnel are almost always present in some capacity throughout Halo; in a video game, they are dumb AI who serve little purpose other than to distract enemy AI for a while, but without them, the story falls apart. In a real world analog, they would be just as important as the Chief in their own way, even if their K/D ratio was much lower.
Master Chief IS human, even if he’s spent his entire life as a tool of the military. He needs companionship in his own way, on his own terms. The loss of Reach was an emotional blow to him, but he shoulders it. The loss of Cortana, the most constant and reliable presence in his life, was the hardest thing we’ve seen him deal with, and it wasn’t like he broke down and cried about it. He shouldered it and went on, but when he thought there was hope for her, it was a breaking point. The ONLY time Chief has ever acted selfishly, and you might not even call it that. He was trying to find and save his friend, who meant more to him than his own life, which was already bought and paid for with the literally countless billions of trillions of people he saved by halting the activation of the Halos.
But that isn’t what people want. They want Arnold -Yoinking!- Schwarzenegger’s Terminator, not feeling anything at all ever and giving the thumbs up while he slags down in a foundry crucible, because that’s so relatable and original.
343i doesn’t hate chief, they just see him differently from how Bungie did.

I never understood this claim. How and why did Chief have such a big attachment to Cortana?
He only met her a very few weeks before the events of the first game, and most of that time she wasn’t in his neural Net but inside the mainframe of the Pillar of Autumn. He literally knew her only for two days before being put into stasis. She assisted him for another week or so during the battle of Installation 04 and Operation First Strike before she was transferred to Cairo Station. They then fought together again for a few hours in Mombasa, then 2-3 days on Delta Halo, when he left her behind. They were reunited for another few hours on the ark before going into 5-year-stasis. The Battle of Requiem lasted for two more days before she “died”.
They literally spent less than two weeks (consciously) with each other…
Right, because they totally could not have just left chief floating in space after Halo 3 and immediately start with different spartans.
