343 do not ruin halo 4 for competetive players

Here is a little background on the past halo games. I played halo since the first day of its release. So i would say i know exactly what i am talking about. At least in the competitive players perspective point of view.

Halo 1: Pretty competitive. No rank but still an amazing game with competitive game play. The game play was very fast, no slow movement going on.

Halo 2: In my personal opinion there will never be a better game than halo 2. It was a VERY competitive game play. While there was still A LOT and a lot of fun for casual players. Also very fast fps/movement. This is where the skill came in. If you were quick enough you were able to take on 3 players at once. Which made this game amazing. And your rank actually showed your skill.

Halo 3: Some what of competitive. Rank didn’t mean so much. Everyone had a 50. It was not hard to get. The game play/fps was a little slow. Definitely a big difference from halo 2. But still overall a good game. Not great, but good.

Halo Reach: Sorry but it was a total fail. You guys took the ranking system from call of duty. You should be ashamed of you self. This is halo. The game play/fps was also a total fail. It is way too slow. The DMR is a total fail. You are no longer able to take on 3 players by yourself. Not because you are not skilled enough but it is impossible. I could write a 50 page essay how bad this game is. But to sum it up, you guys basically made this game for casual players. But what you don’t understand is that you can make a game for casual players and competitive players. Its not hard. Look at halo 2. I don’t think any halo player has anything bad to say about that game.

Friends List: You guys don’t even realize how important this is. In halo 3 and reach we used microsoft friends list. Which was horrible. Totally felt out of its place. Halo 2 has an amazing simple friends list. It was very easy to use and it was quick. It was easy to add friends, invite them to party, see what they were doing ect. It made the game feel really SOCIAL. You were able to meet and play with many players. In all of the other halo’s it seemed like you were playing by yourself. The friends list was way too slow and you had to go out of your way to add someone. Made you feel like you were playing by yourself.

What the balls is 324?!

fixed

Then you should play Halo 2 PC. It still supports online multiplayer and there are thousands of user-made maps.

New Halo games are going bring new things to the table.

PC halo is not the same thing. I know that new things will be brought with a new halo. But 343 needs to realize that competitive players will not play the game if it is made ONLY for casual players. And casual players WILL play the game if it is made for competitive players. What kind of gamer doesnt like competition??? Come on now…

Halo 4 needs to play on both sides have stuff for competitive players and have stuff for casual players

I think they should have social and ranked like in H2/H3. That way people who don’t care about rank can just play for fun and the competitive players can earn their desired ranks.

EXACTLY. Do not just make the game for casual players. You can make it for competitive and casual players. Its not that hard. Look at halo 2.

Halo 2 PC is quite literally the same game as Halo 2 for the Xbox, except for it looks better, has lobbies, extra original default maps, and loads of user-created content. Assuming you have a good PC by 2007’s standards, you can run it more smoothly than it ran on Xbox. Plus it was developed to be fully compatible for use with the Xbox 360 controller, unlike Halo CE PC. It also has an ongoing, highly competitive community.

I agree with your philosophy about making a game that can appeal to competitive and casual players. The thing is, I do like competition and I was very satisfied with Reach. I think some people just don’t want new pillars of game design in new Halo games, because they iterate on the basics and force veteran players to change the intricacies of their play-style.

Ranked/Social playlists= easy awnser

> Ranked/Social playlists= easy awnser

You can make as many ranked playlists as you want, but if the game itself is full of gimmicky and “unskilled” mechanics (see bloom and some AAs, etc), competitive players still won’t be happy. People just want a balanced game.

like reach did!

shoot better with your DMR in a 1v1 mid-range DMR battle?

LOSE to the person mashing his R trigger.

NEW THINGS BROUGHT TO THE TABLE.

my point is its NOT about bringing things to the table, its about things to the table that arent flat out stupid, such as the way the DMR (doesnt) function in pre-patch reach, armor lock, jet pack, no bleed melees, mini nuke grenades, poorly implemented sprint, etc.

Obviously new features need to be tested and balanced. Hence the upcoming patch that will attempt to fix four of your complaints.

Just to be clear, is your stance that every Halo sequel should try to emulate Halo 2’s multiplayer and not add any new features? If so, I don’t think you’re going to be so happy with the future of this franchise.

the patch already came out. its in the TU BETA playlist if you wanna play it.

and no, im not against new features, or new. im against BAD mechanics that are BAD for gameplay, regardless of the skill level of the people playing with them.

that being said, if they just updated halo 2 with 100% of the exact same mechanics, + added graphics, i’d bet anything it would be a massive success, and completely blow reach out of the water. (seriously, lots of people who have played reach never played halo 2, and i feel bad for them for have not played a GOOD halo game).

as long as EVERY SINGLE MECHANIC does the following things, i’ll be happy with them.

1.) IS INTUITIVE.
2.) REWARDS SKILLFUL ACTIONS (+ skill gap)
3.) is NON CONTRADICTORY
4.) does NOT make people rage
5.) doesnt reward TERRIBLE PLAY
